All around the world, people drink tea. But tea does not mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries people have different ideas about drinking tea.
In China, for example, tea is always served when people get together. The Chinese drink it at any time of the day at home or in tea houses. They prefer their tea without putting any other thing in it.
Tea is also important in Japan. The Japanese have a special way of serving tea called a tea ceremony. It is very old and full of meanings. Everything must be done in a special way in the ceremony. There is even a special room for it in Japanese homes.
Another tea-drinking country is England. In England, the late afternoon is "tea time". Almost everyone has a cup of tea then. The English usually make tea in a teapot and drink it with cream and sugar. They also eat cakes or cookies at tea time.
In the USA, people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapots. In summer, many Americans drink cold tea, "Ice Tea". Sometimes they drink iced tea from cans(易拉罐).

Of course, the best paper comes from wood. Wood comes from trees, and trees are plants. Vegetables and fruits are plants, too, and we eat a lot of them. So can we also eat wood and paper?
Scientists say, “All food comes in some way from plants.” Well, is that true? Animals eat grass and grow fat. Then we eat their meat. Little fish eat little sea-plants, and then bigger fish swim along and eat them. Chickens eat bits of grass and give us eggs. So what food does not come from plants in some way?
Scientists can do fantastic things with plants. They can make food just like meat and cheese. And they can make it without (没有) the help of animals. It’s very good food, too. They say, “We make our paper from wood. We can also make food from wood in the future. The next thing is not very difficult and expensive.” What is the next thing? Perhaps it is food from paper.
So please keep your old books and letters. One day, they may be on your plate, if what scientists say may come true.

In traditional Chinese medicine, it is used to improve eyesight, deal with high blood pressure and stop bleeding. | |
Luhao (芦蒿) Taken as a symbol of spring, luhao was thought highly of by a famous Chinese poet. 【推荐1】How do you eat your food? Some people use forks and knives. Some use their hands. And some, like the Chinese, use chopsticks.
Chopsticks, or kuaizi in Chinese, are a pair of thin sticks usually made of wood and bamboo. For a long time, the Chinese have been using these tools for their everyday meals. Holding the pair of sticks between the fingers of one hand, they can pick up any piece of food. The food can be big or it can be small. It can be square-shaped, or it can be ound. No matter what the food is like, there is no problem!
①
Chopsticks were invented over 3,000 years ago in China and had a common beginning by being used as cooking tools. It is thought that the first chopsticks were used to pick out food from a cooking pot. But as creative cooking tools developed, this changed the material of chopsticks.
②
Using chopsticks creates a more demanding (要求高的) eating experience. You cannot get as much food in your mouth at one time as using a fork or spoon. Since it takes longer to eat, people may eat less.
Using chopsticks gives you a tool to eat at any time and anywhere. When no fork or spoon is available and eating with your fingers isn't possible, find any two objects like sticks, place them between your fingers and start eating.
③
Avoid sticking the ends of chopsticks into a bowl of food. Placing chopsticks into your food makes it look like an offering to the dead.
Chopsticks are not musical instruments. Using your chopsticks as drumsticks at the table will get you a serious look from your host.
Avoid using your chopsticks to point at people. Use words to get your point across rather than your chopsticks.

Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees (黑猩猩), behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why? Dishonesty often helps them survive.
Many kinds of birds are very successful at fooling other animals. For example, a bird called the plover sometimes pretends to be hurt in order to protect its young. When a predator (猎食动物) gets close to its nest, the plover leads the predator away from the nest. How? It pretends to have a broken wing. The predator follows the “hurt” adult, leaving the baby birds safe in the nest.
Another kind of bird, the scrub jay, hides its food so it always has something to eat. Scrub jays are also thieves. They watch where others hide their food and steal it. But clever scrub jays seem to know when a thief is watching them. So they go back later, dig the food, and hide it again somewhere else.
Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky. After a fight, the losing chimp will give its hand to the other. When the winning chimp puts out its hand, too, the chimps are friendly again. But an animal expert once saw a losing chimp take the winner’s hand and start fighting again.
Chimps are sneaky in other ways, too. When chimps find food that they love, such as bananas, it is natural for them to cry out. Then other chimps come running. But some clever chimps learn to cry very softly when they find food. That way, other chimps don’t hear them, and they don’t need to share their food.
As children, many of us learn the saying “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” But maybe you can’t trust her, either.

However, Earth Day is not just an event to be celebrated on one specific day. It is primarily a reminder for all to do our rightful duty every day to save our planet. Below, we have made a list of four things you can do to celebrate Earth Day (apart from planting trees).
Leave your cars at home. Cars, being the greatest source of air pollution, can be left at home this weekend. Ride a bike or walk if your workplace is not that far away from your home.
Be a little dirty. We don’t mean it “that” way. We simply mean to say, don’t take a bath. A day or two without a bath won’t harm you, but it will certainly do a lot of good for our planet. A daily shower isn’t a matter of health; it’s a matter of comfort.
Volunteer yourself. This is one of the best things you can do. It will do you good too. Join other like-minded individuals in a common task, such as planting trees, cleaning a park or simply coming up with ways you can protect mother Earth.
Green-up your home. This is one of the most common things that people do, that is, turn off your lights. However, this is not something you should do just for a day and for only an hour. Turn off all power electricity points whenever they are not in use.
You know what the best way to celebrate Earth Day is? Extend(扩展)your celebrations. That’s right! Do something every day that will improve your surroundings(周围环境)to make the planet a better place to live in. Always remember that every step, every action counts.
1. Earth Day started in ________.A.1907 | B.2019 | C.1970 | D.2022 |

I think it started on the night my boyfriend and I went to celebrate his sister-in-law's birthday. We didn't think anything of it at the time, of course. The news was just beginning to report the spread of COVID-19 in America. I was still living my life just as I always had — riding the train to work each day, working long hours, and going out with friends and family.
My boyfriend, Luis, began showing symptoms on Monday, but we thought it was a typical cold. Then it took me down. It began with a low fever. I felt really weak. At this point, coronavirus had begun to take over New York. On Tuesday, the headache started. It was so intense that I had to lie down. By the end of the week, everything hurt. Luis and I went to nearby urgent care. After being examined, I chose to be tested, but I didn't receive my results until a week later. The doctor sent me home with advice to take Tylenol (泰诺, 感冒药) but said there was nothing more he could do for me. On the way home, we bought whatever medicine we could find, for the store had run out of Tylenol.
That Saturday evening was the worst. I had a high fever and I couldn't sleep. I was sweating a lot, and my knees, hips, and back were in terrible pain. I lost my sense of taste and smell. Then I developed stomach pain.
As I lay there, I was terrified that there wouldn't be enough doctors, nurses, or beds to help me. The thought of being alone, and possibly dying alone, in the hospital, weighed heavily on my thoughts, and I feared the uncertainty.
My fever finally broke the following Wednesday. It was such a relief. Two days later, the health department called me with the news that I'd tested positive for COVID-19.
Looking back, I really wish that people had taken this virus more seriously earlier. I wish people understood how severe this is. I'm wearing a mask in public from now on. I'm not taking chances. This was really painful, and we got lucky.

When you see a famous car in the street, maybe you will say. “It’s cool.” You may think “He’s so cool,”when you see your favorite football player.
We all maximize(扩大)the meaning of “cool”. You can use it instead of many words, such as “new” or “surprising”. Here’s an interesting story we can use to show the way the word is used. A teacher asked her student to write about the waterfall(瀑布) they had visited. On the student’s paper was just the one sentence, “It’s so cool.”Maybe he thought it was the best way to show what he saw and felt.
But the story also shows a scarcity(缺乏)of words. Without “cool”, some people have no words to show the same meaning. So it is quite important to keep some credibility(可信性).Can you think of many other words that make your life as colorful as the word “cool”? I can. And I think they are also very cool.
