It was a cold and wet night. Over the radio came the message to deal with an accident in one of the side streets of the city. Three months later, I saw the driver in court and found him to be a normal person. He was sorry for his actions. In the end, he was put into the prison for several years. I was sure that I was right and he was wrong. However, he strongly believed that I was wrong and he was right. The teacher decided to teach us a lesson. She came up with a good idea. She brought both of us to the front of the class and put him on one side of her grey desk and me on the other. In the middle of the desk was a large, round object. It was clear for me to see that it was black. She asked the boy what color the object was. “White,” he answered in a loud voice.
I couldn't believe that the object was white, considering that it was certainly black! One more argument started between the boy and me, this time about the color of the object.
The teacher told me to stand where the boy was standing and told him to stand where I had been. We changed places, and then she asked me what the color of the object was. I had to answer, "White." It was then that I knew what was wrong. It was an object with two differently colored sides, and from his side it was white. Only from my side was it black.
My teacher taught me a very important lesson that day: You must stand in another person's position and look at the situation through their eyes in order to truly understand their ideas.

With the string (线) in hand, Jack started flying the kite. Soon, the kite was high up in the sky. After a while, Jack said, “Father, it seems that the string is stopping the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, it will fly much higher. Can we cut it?” Mr. Green didn’t reply, but just cut the string off the reel (线轴). Suddenly, the kite began to go higher, which made Jack much happier.
However, to his surprise, the kite was coming down. They waited and waited. Slowly, it fell onto the grass. Jack felt upset and asked, “I thought that after cutting the string, the kite would fly higher. Why did it fall down?”
Mr. Green smiled and said, “The role of the string is not stopping the kite from flying higher, but helping it stay in the sky, because the kite itself can’t fly up. By using the string you help the kite go up in the right direction. When you cut the string, it could not support the kite.”

“Excuse me, I need to get these,” I said, holding up my list.
