【推荐2】Do you like making paper planes? If you like origami (折纸), we're sure you enjoy making paper planes, too. All it takes is some paper and a new simple supply. And paper planes can be fun to fly around the houses or outside the yard.

No one knows for sure when the first paper plane was created. Sometimes, historians give credit to Leonardo da Vinci. However, paper folding and kite making were both popular in Asia hundreds of years ago, so it's likely that the first paper plane may have been made long, long ago.

In some Asian countries, the art of folding paper is called origami. Some people call the art of making paper planes aerogami.

Since paper planes flow (流动) through the air, they can teach scientists and engineers a lot about basic concepts of flight, engineering and aerodynamics (空气动力学) In fact, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) (美国航天航空局) once sent a paper plane into space on a space shuttle!

If you are wondering how a paper plane would fly in outer space, you might be surprised by the answer. According to scientists, paper planes won't actually fly in outer space. Instead, paper planes would simply float in a straight line and could possibly float forever unless they hit another object!

The Wright brothers also used paper planes to test out their theories about flight before making their first flight. They built a wind tunnel and used paper planes to gain a better understanding of how their plane would operate in the wind.

So just how far can a paper plane fly? On February 28, 2012, former college quarterback Joe Ayoob set the world record for the longest paper plane flight. He threw a paper plane the entire length of a warehouse, setting the record at 226 feet, 10 inches. That broke the old record by 19 feet, 6 inches!

A.It would fly as we expect.B.It would not move at all.
C.It would hit another object.D.It would float in an unusual way.
4. Which of the following is true?
A.Leonardo da Vinci created the first paper plane.
B.NASA once flew a paper plane in a space shuttle.
C.The Wright brothers used paper planes to test their flight theories.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了人工智能AlphaGo击败了韩国棋手李世石,这引发了人们对于人工智能超越人类的讨论。

【推荐3】Who is smarter? A human being or artificial intelligence (人工智能)?

The question was asked around the world when a computer program called AlphaGo beat the world top Go(围棋)player, South Korean Lee Se-del, 4—1. In fact, before the match, most people believed that Lee would certainly be the winner because they didn’t think that AI was good enough to be better than the human mind. However, as a machine, AlphaGo would never get tired, while Lee Se-del was only a human and humans must have some weaknesses.

So, what comes next?

Some people have been thinking that artificial intelligence, or AI in short, will be a bad thing for humans. In an interview with the BBC in 2014, the UK scientist Stephen Hawking showed his opinion that development of full artificial intelligence could mean the end of the human beings.

So, are we really about to live in the world controlled by AI or robots?

Not quite. After all, it’s not hard to get a computer program to remember and produce facts. What is hard is getting computers to use their knowledge in everyday fields(领域).

“We think that, for the human being, things like seeing and moving, are natural and common in our life.” Thomas Johnson, founder of Motion Figures, a company that is bringing AI to toys, told the newspaper. “But for a robot, to walk up and down just like human beings needs a great number of things to be done every second, and it’s really difficult to do. We have a long way to go before AI can truly begin to be like the human brain , even though the technology can be great.”

But, who believes much has to be done to improve AI?

John Markoff of The New York Times said that researchers should build artificial intelligence to improve people’s life. “Our fate is in our own hands,” he wrote. “Since technology depends on the ideas of its creators, we can choose to use technology to improve the world.”

1. The match between AlphaGo and Lee Se-del is mentioned at the beginning of the article mainly to ________.
A.show how AI is usually tested
B.get the readers to think about AI
C.draw the readers’ attention to AlphaGo
D.tell the readers AI has been over the human brain
2. Most people believed Lee would be the winner because they thought that ________.
A.computers were not so smart as a human
B.computers had weaknesses and also got tired
C.AlphaGo had never beaten a human Go player
D.the Go game was too difficult for the computer program
3. What does Thomas Johnson probably agree with?
A.Robots do better than humans in most fields.
B.We should use AI to help us finish difficult work.
C.Some easy things may be hard for robots to finish.
D.The development of robots could be harmful one day.
4. Which sentence has the closest meaning to the underlined sentence?
A.Our lives depend on technology.
B.We should do our own things by hand.
C.Our future is in the control of ourselves.
D.Technology will totally change our world.
