When it comes to shopping for clothes, my mother and I have always disagreed on what fits (适合) me well. To me, if it zips (拉上拉链), it fits. My mom, however, usually says I need a bigger size. When I was a teenager, I wanted to dress like my friends, but my body size made it impossible. When mom told me something didn’t suit me, or I needed a bigger size, all I heard was that my body was wrong. To avoid arguments, we stopped going shopping together.
This continued until I got engaged (订婚) last year and needed to buy a wedding dress. Maybe I could buy it alone, of course, but my mom is the most important person in my life. The idea of looking for a wedding dress without her seemed just inappropriate (不恰当的). Although the experience of taking her with me sounds pretty scary, I would still like to try it.
And so the day came. As I tried on a simple white dress, I saw tears in my mom’s eyes. “You look beautiful!” she told me. Nothing could have shocked me more. This one didn’t zip up at the back and I did actually need a bigger size, but my mother didn’t say that. She just told me how beautiful I looked. At that moment, all the arguments in the past were erased off (抹去).
We didn’t buy a dress that day. We decided to see more, which I would never have predicted. A few weeks and many shopping trips later, we found the perfect dress. We both loved it as soon as I put it on. And during those few weeks, mom and I also found the perfect fit (搭配) for our shopping relationship.

Most people in our lives know they will not be able to connect with my family by using computer or mobile phones for 24 hours.
I first understood the importance of disconnecting in 2008, when my father was told that he had got brain cancer(癌). Some days he would have only one good hour, and I wasn’t willing to be disturbed when I was with him, so I’d turn off my mobile phone.
Soon after, encouraged by National Day of Unplugging (全国断网断电日) on March 1st, my husband and I decided to unplug for one full day every week.

Increasingly, engineers are saying that robots are going to move out of research departments and into your home. Companies including Sony and General Electric are working on designs for small robots. Products like the Roomba, a robot that can clean floors, are flying off the shelves.
What’s behind this new robot revolution? It’s partly a matter of technology. Devices that can recognize and respond to a human voice have been developed. There are now a few different ways for robots to move around. They can walk, crawl or ride on wheels. Robots are being made smaller and smaller. They are also becoming more and more energy efficient.
A bigger part of the story is on the demand side. From the day the television remote control was invented, people around the world have searched for new ways to be lazy. Take into consideration that more and more people can afford robots, and the time seems ripe to introduce robots to the average family.
To be sure, robots that walk on two legs and talk like people are still a long way off. However, robots that do basic housework such as cleaning or gardening are sure to come out soon. One thing is certain---when these robots do come to our homes, it will change things forever.

John studied hard and in 1911 he left the city of Melbourne and went to work in South Australia for the Presbyterian Church. The church wanted to help the sheep farmers who lived in the outback many kilometers from towns and cities. One day, his grandpa said to him, "Mario, I know that you don't have as many friends as you think. Many of them are not true to you."
Mario thought maybe his grandpa was right. However, he wasn't sure how he could test whether his schoolmates were real friends or not, so he asked his grandpa. "Nobody move. You're about to see something amazing," said Mario. Then he tried sitting on the chair. Having difficulty seeing it, he missed and fell to the ground. Everyone had a pretty good laugh. "Wait, wait," said Mario, making another try. But again he missed the seat.
Mario didn't give up. He kept trying to sit on the magic chair. Finally, he did it. This time he felt himself in mid-air.
Then he experienced the magic that his grandpa had been talking about. Looking around, Mario saw George, Lucas and Diana holding him up, so he wouldn't fall. The visiting teacher watched the lesson and was surprised because the teacher methods were different from those in her country. A children’s art lesson in her country produced a lot of pictures, and each one is quite different from the others. Why? What makes this difference in educational methods? In a classroom in any country, a teacher teaches more than art or history or language.
In a country such as the United States or Canada, students are asked to work and find answers by themselves. The students are helped to learn to have their own ideas. In countries such as China and Japan, students often work together and help each other in the classroom, but the teachers teach, and the students listen. The students are asked to memorize a lot. They have to learn the same textbook, do the same homework and give the same answers.

Well,to be honest,I often dream about being some kind of hero or doing something
special—like saving a child from a burning building or discovering a new star. I was daydreaming at school one morning when my teacher said there would be a Father’s Day writing competition for the whole school.“I hope we have a winner right here in my class.”
When I got home,I started to think about what to write. My father is an astronaut. No,I wouldn’t start like that. That was the way others saw him.How did I see my father? Hmm.

The third prize was announced and it was not me.1 was relieved(释然)and disappointed at the same time. The second prize was announced. It was me.
I went up to the stage and read what I had written,“My father’s son”.When I finished, the people stood up and cheered.I saw my father blowing his nose.Tears were running down my mother’s face.Dad cleared his throat and put his hand on my shoulder.“Son,thisis the proudest moment of my life.”

Playing in water is one way to feel cooler. Taking a cool bath or a shower can feel really good on a hot day.
It is also important for us to drink water. If you feel thirsty, you should drink water immediately. On hot days, you can lose about 16 glasses of water in one day, so many doctors advise that you should try to drink at least that much every day. Mixing a little fruit juice into your water is a fun way to help you drink plenty of water.
The food we eat also makes a difference in how we feel in the heat. Cold food, such as ice cream and drinks with some ice, can cool down our bodies. However, eating spicy(辛辣的) food makes our bodies even warmer.
The clothes we wear can help us feel cooler as well. Light-coloured, light-weight clothes feel cooler in the sun than dark, heavy clothing. Loose(宽松的)clothes are more comfortable in the heat than tight(紧身的)ones.
Even though it is not healthy to run around during the hottest time of the day, that doesn’t mean a hot day is not fun! You can read stories in your room. You can also paint or draw without moving your body too much. These are just some of many cool things to do on a hot day.
