One of the most often asked and most controversially(有争议的) answered questions is "What should I do when I meet a blind person?" A quick Google search will turn up plenty of answers, which are quite different from each other. So, obviously, there is no general agreement on what to do when you meet a blind person.
There are no special rules or does and doesn't that can deal with this situation. There is only one principle(原则): Blind people are nothing more or less than people who happen to be blind. As such, it is our own job to take care of ourselves, and we are grateful to no one else for special care or leadership. For we think we are equal(平等的)to normal people.
The best thing to do is nothing. Don't suppose you know what we need. If we do need something, we'll politely let you know.
Forget everything you've heard about the blind even if you consider yourself to be an expert. Blind people have plenty to say about "experts". Especially, forget anything you've heard or read about "Ten Things to Do if You Meet a Blind Person". The advice will probably just cause more embarrassment(尴尬). More of it is made up by sighted people anyway and doesn't necessarily stand for the blind's view.
There is completely no way to second—guess the situation by imposing(强加)any preformed ideas. Even if you've known other blind people, don't think you know what to do with every one of them. The thing that often makes us angry is to hear "It's OK. My mother(sister, cousin, friend)is blind."
Blind people are as different from each other as any two people on this earth. There are no similarities among us that you can depend on. Even the degree of vision, hearing or touch that we use can be very different. Most blind people do have same degree of vision, and even the very few of us who are totally blind may use our touch and hearing very effectively.

For example, some high school and college students in the United States often spend many hours as volunteers in hospitals, orphanages (孤儿院) or homes for the old. They read books to the people in these places, or they just visit them and play games with them or listen to their problems.
Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick or old. They paint, clean up, or repair their houses, do their shopping or mow their lawns. For boys who no longer have fathers there is an organization called Big Brothers. College students and other men take these boys to baseball games or on fishing trips and help them to get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers.
Each city has a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games or learn crafts. Some of these clubs show movies or organize short trips to the mountains, the beaches, museums or other places of interest. Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to remember the problems of younger boys and girls.
Volunteers believe that some of the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.

The boy had never known the joy of biking because he suffered from a serious disease in the brain, which often causes balance (平衡) problems.
When he got home, McLindon went online and found a three-wheel shaped bike with a seat belt, perfect for a child with balance problems.
Soon the boy was riding around the street with his friends, having fun and getting exercise at the same time. But there was more, as McLindon read from his friend’s expression. “To see his son communicating with other kids,” McLindon says. “I’ll never forget the smile on his face.”
That smile lit the McLindon Family Foundation (基金会) called the Bike Project. With great efforts, the foundation works with some local hospitals to search for children who can get help from owning such a bike, which can meet the special needs of the child. The bike includes a part of seat that supports a person’s head, a seat belt and a braking (刹车) part in the back. The bike is expensive—$3,000 to $4,000, and that’s a present with the foundation’s huge support. It’s enough lucky for kids to get one.
“We worked with a 14-year-old girl who has spina (脊柱) disease,” says McLindon. “She spent most days on the couch watching TV. Soon after she got her bike, she was training for special-needs sports. In a magazine interview, she said, ‘I always knew there was a player in me.’ ”
So far, the foundation has given away 450 bikes, and that’s just a start. “I do a lot of things. I run a lot of companies,” McLindon says. “But getting these kids their bikes is the most important thing that I do.”

【推荐1】Parents of very young children know this: You catch your child in the act of stealing the cookie—the evidence of candy written on his or her face. However, you get a wide-eyed denial:" I didn't do it!"
Learning to tell the truth, even at the risk of punishment, is an important part of moral (道德) development, and new research suggests it can take seven or more years for kids to get there.
Early 2017 Professor Craig E.Smith published a study. He and his workmates chose 48 children between four and nine years of age. They told the kids a story about a boy or girl doing something wrong, such as taking a classmate's toy or candy, and then either lying about the wrongdoing to a parent or confessing (承认) it. In each case, they asked the children. How would the child feel? How would the mother feel?
The children's answers were generally divided according to age, which is in agreement with the stolen candy, lying and getting unpunished. They imagined the parent in the study would be angry with the child who confessed. However, the seven-to-nine-year-olds were more likely (可能的) to think the child would feel better confessing the crime and that the parent would have positive (积极的) feelings towards a confessor.
Smith says, "kids of all ages who expect that a parent would feel happy about a child's confession are more likely to tell the truth rather than lie. Reward the honesty even if you feel you must punish the wrong action." He adds, what parents can learn from these studies is to listen calmly without getting angry right away when their child confesses.

A.kids can't tell "right" from "wrong" |

D.all the kids are willing to confess to a bad act |
A.Older kids are more likely than younger children to confess to a bad act. |
B.Younger children are more likely than older kids to confess to a bad act. |
C.The 4-5-year-olds would feel better confessing the crime. |
D.The 7-9-year-olds thought parents would be angry with their confessions. |
A.Parents should at once punish the children who lied. |
B.Parents should tell children the wrongness of lying. |
C.Parents should never get angry after their children's confessions. |
D.Parents should show positive feeling about their children's confessions. |
【推荐2】I’m not the kind of mother who normally brushes and styles her daughter’s hair, and my daughter has never liked sitting quietly long enough for me to do it.
But today, I put a chair outside and let my daughter Sally sit on it. She was sitting high with her eyes closed, skin still wet from the shower, and her messy hair behind her back.
I realized she was taking in every touch from my hands. It was the last time for a week that our bodies would connect. Today, I would send Sally away for a week of summer camp. She didn’t ask to go. This was all my idea. She’s nearly 12, and I notice that I’m with my child nearly 24 hours a day.
Living on a farm without any neighbors, I’ve chosen a life that is quieter than a usual family’s. But instead of requiring space away from me, Sally has increasingly depended on me.
What worries me most is that she has become a “mini-me”. She follows my hobbies, my dreams, and my opinions. And that was why I pulled her to the summer camp, a nearby wilderness (荒野) camp called Hawk Circle.
After we ate, I drove Sally to Hawk Circle. Once there, we got a tour of the grounds and were introduced to other campers. Sally stood by the group of children, holding my hand, horror in her eyes, trying to work up the courage to join a game of soccer. “I need you for a few more minutes,” she told me, holding my hand tightly (紧紧地).
I pulled away and walked up to one of the camp’s workers. “Excuse me,” I said loudly, “I’d like to introduce you to my daughter. Maybe you could help her meet a few of these kids.” He came over to talk to Sally, and I kissed her and then I disappeared before she realized I was gone.
On my way home, I felt a piece of my soul had been taken from my body. I began to shake. The tears (泪水) came down my face. It took every bit of my strength to keep driving forward.
When I arrived home, I calmed down and reminded myself why I chose this path. I thought to myself, “I want Sally to have a chance to find herself, out of my shadow. I don’t want to see only myself in my child. I want to learn who she is. If I don’t set her free, I fear I’ll never really meet her real personality.”
After 12 years of being together, I want to finally meet my daughter for the first time.

【推荐3】You might have noticed that sometimes, when you’re playing mobile games or making a video call, the picture suddenly freezes(卡顿)because the network speed is too slow. When you try to download a movie on your phone, it seems to take forever.
These annoying things will soon become things of the past, as China just issued commercial licenses(发放商业牌照)for 5G networks on June 6. This means that China’s telecommunications(电信) companies will be able to offer 5G network speeds for mobile phone users.
The “G” stands for generation (代) . 1G let us talk to each other, 2G let us send messages, 3G gave us mobile data and Internet, and 4G made all of these things faster. So what will 5G bring?
First of all, 5G is so fast that it will allow us to download an entire HD movie in a second. The delay(延时) between sending and receiving data will be shortened. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds(毫秒),while humans have a reaction time of about 200 to 300 milliseconds. But 5G will get the delay down to 1 millisecond or less, which is almost real-time.
Because of this increase in speed, it will be possible to create and use new kinds of technology. Robots will be used to do operations because doctors will be able to control them from somewhere else without any delay. Self-driving cars will be able to drive more safely because they can smoothly communicate with other cars, traffic lights and road Sensors (传感器). 5G also makes the Internet of Things(IOT物联网)possible.
All in all, 5G will shape every type of technology that it touches. And you won’t have to wait too long for that to happen.
1. From the first paragraph we can know that________.A.people can’t download movie at all on the phone |
B.making a video call is impossible for phone users |
C.sometimes the network speed is too slow to use |
D.mobile games can’t be downloaded on the phone |
A.China just gave commercial licenses officially for 5G networks. |
B.Every mobile phone user could improve the network speed |
C.Most mobile phone users didn’t use 4G anymore. |
