“Do you want a hug?” the young man asked Ginny. He held a sign in his hand-Free Hugs! I looked around. There were other people with him. They all held their handmade signs high. The message was the same on all of them-Free Hugs!
“Sure!” Ginny smiled and walked up to him. She reached up, wrapped her arms around his neck, pulled him down to her level and hugged him with all the love she had in her heart. “Wow.” he said. “that is the best bug I've had all day !” “I'm a hugger,” Ginny smiled at him. He looked at me. “How about a hug?” he asked. “You got it!” I walked into his open arms. We held for a short time and parted. A young lady walked up and hugged Ginny. She turned to me, opened her arms and hugged me, too.
I felt warmth filling my heart. Ginny and I were going through hard times. Money was not enough and bill collectors called regularly. We were stressed and worried, but on that afternoon, for a moment, it was all forgotten.
Sometimes, a hug is all we need. “The Free Hugs Movement was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives,” said the young man. In an age short of human contact, the effects of the free hugs became more and more surprising. Without considering the differences of people's social positions, sexes, and jobs and so on, everyone gets equal care, greetings, smile and warmth from someone else. In fact, hugging is not the object of this activity. Instead, it is only one of the ways to express love to other people.

Afia was born with severe cleft lip (裂唇).She was so ill-fed that she seemed to be disappearing in front of our eyes. Being born with cleft lip makes it really difficult, sometimes, almost impossible to eat.
Her parents, Christiana and Kwame, had never seen a cleft before and they didn’t know what to do. When she was found by Operation Smile staff, Afia, 4 months old, weighed only 1.2 kg. A healthy child should weigh around 6.4 kg at that age. Given the situation, the baby was rushed to a hospital in Accra, but her road to be treated was still long and difficult.
Afia’s family knew that Operation Smile was their only hope. Christiana took Afia to three medical tasks, but the little girl was always too ill to be safely treated. Finally, when Operation Smile brought a medical task to Tamale in November 2016, Afia finally got her life changing surgery (手术).
Dr Clive Duke, a UK doctor and Operation Smile medical volunteer, took Afia back into the arms of her mother. “That moment was one of my most unforgettable experiences with Operation Smile. All who were watching had a huge smile and a tear in our eyes as we had the strong feeling that a life had just been saved,”. said Clive. “I felt proud of our Operation Smile team and also proud of my work in helping Afia. She still needs further surgery, but the future is there for her now.”

They were good friends, though sometimes fought over toys or quarreled about what game they would play. As they grew older, they played together less. Emily preferred to be with girls, and George, boys, of course. When they were about fifteen, they almost stopped speaking to each other, not because they had disagreed with each other about anything, but just because they belonged to different groups. On the one hand, Emily was developing into a very good student, while George was more interested in sports. Emily had begun to study French, and she liked French so much that she began to write plays in French. She also liked TV programs and for some reason, she enjoyed watching football games very much. Her mother used to say “Emily, I’ve never heard of a girl who likes football as much as you do.” Mrs. Mason simply did not approve (赞成) of her daughter’s interest. Football, she felt, was for men and boys.
While Emily was working on her French lessons or watching football games on TV, George was working for his father in his store after school. He liked selling things to people. His father found him so helpful that he thought about offering him a higher pay. When George wasn’t working at the store, he would like to be with a group of his boy friends who were organizing a football team.
One day, when George was going home in the afternoon, he looked in the window of Emily’s living room and he saw that she was alone watching a football game on TV. He walked up and knocked at the door. Emily was surprised to see him, but she asked him to come in, and they watched the rest of the game together. Emily and George are good friends again. They still have different ideas about things sometimes, but they agree with each other that football is the world’s best game. But he finally did it successfully by pulling the key out. Some kids on the bus called 911. And one of Jeremy’s classmates, Johnny, became a hero as well. He gave Max first aid before help arrived.

First of all, astronomers look for a star. That's because our own Earth moves around a star (the Sun).More importantly, it is the correct distance (距离) from the Sun for heat and light. So when astronomers have found the star, they look at the planets around it. In recent years, astronomers have found nearly 400 new planets with stars. However, many of these planets are either too near the star or too far away.
However, if the planet is in a good position, astronomers look for three key things: water, air and rock. Water is important because all life needs water. Humans can drink it and also grow plants with water. And plants produce air for humans to breathe and food to eat. Rock on a planet is also important. That’s because there is often water under the rock.
After many years of scrutinizing, astronomers have found a planet that is similar to the Earth. It’s Gliese 581g and it’s near a star. The astronomers think it has water and rock and the average (平均) temperature is between-31°C and-12°C. That’s cold, but not colder than Antarctica or the Arctic Circle, for example. Gliese 581g is bigger than the Earth. A year on Gliese 581g is only 37 Earth days instead of 365.But astronomers do not think these are big differences and some of them think Gliese 581g will be a new Earth. However, Gliese 581g is twenty light years from the Earth.
1. What do astronomers have to find first before starting to look for a new place for humans to live?A.A new star. | B.A new planet. | C.Some heat. | D.Some light. |

First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest color is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs ( 感觉器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.
1. In people’s mind, different colors have different weight. Orange is heavier than ________.A.blue | B.red | C.green | D.yellow |
A.a red box is heavier than a white one |
B.a color has weight in one’s mind |

Most banknotes have famous people on the front, such as a country’s leader or a great scientist, while on the back of the paper note there are usually some well-known scenes or national buildings.
The latest editions of Chinese banknotes use the picture of Mao Zedong, founding father of the People’s Republic of China, on the front of all yuan bills. However, the backs of the bills are different. The Great Hall of the People, on the 100-yuan note, is a landmark (地标) in Beijing. Important meetings are always held there. The Lijiang River in Guilin, on the 20-yuan note, is one of the most beautiful scenes in the world.
The US 1-dollar bill has the first president, George Washington, on the front side. A 13-level pyramid is on the back. Benjamin Franklin, a great scientist and politician (政治家) from the US, appears on the front of the 100-dollar bill. You can see the White House, where the presidents live, on the back of the 20-dollar bill.
