Jupiter(土星) is the fifth planet from the sun and it is the largest one in the solar system. It is about 11 times bigger than the earth. Jupiter's strangest thing is its huge red spot. Pictures taken from space tell us that the red spot is probably a hurricane(飓风). It is so big that the earth would fit right in the middle of it. Sometimes the hurricane looks like a huge oven with orange-red waves (波浪). Some other time the color almost disappears.

On the earth, hurricanes move. We can watch them travel across water to land. Jupiter's red spot also moves. Scientists say it “walks”. It is carried along by air in Jupiter's atmosphere(大气层).

So far, Jupiter has been visited by four spacecrafts. All of them flew by Jupiter very quickly. On the next trip to Jupiter, a spacecraft will stay near the planet much longer. New information will be sent back to the earth. Soon scientists will know much more about this strange red spot in the atmosphere.

1. According to the passage, Jupiter's red spot is probably ________.
A.many huge stonesB.a huge ocean
C.a hurricaneD.the color of the atmosphere

3. Compared with the size of the earth, Jupiter's red spot is ________.
A.smallerB.the same sizeC.11 times biggerD.larger
4. Earth's hurricanes are like Jupiter's red spot because they both ________.
A.moveB.have the same color
C.travel across water to landD.have the same shape
5. Which of the following is NOT true?
A.So far, four spacecrafts have visited Jupiter.

【推荐1】Have you ever seen people building houses? To build a house, you need workers. They use their hands, tools(工具)and machines to put things together. Building the ISS(国际太空站)is the same. The difference is that the workers are astronauts. They walk in space and use robots’ arms and hands to do their work.

In the space station, astronauts are comfortable. The temperature there is about 21°C. But outside the station, it can be too hot or cold for people. In the sunlight, it’s about 120°C. In the shadow(阴暗处)of the station, it’s about -85°C. So, when astronauts walk in space, they have to wear heavy clothes spacesuits.

Spacesuits also keep astronauts safe from flying rubbish(垃圾)in space. Each time people go into space, they leave rubbish there. Astronauts should be careful because there’s a lot of rubbish, and some rubbish goes many times as fast as a plane!

Space walking is not easy, and it can be dangerous. Getting ready for it takes a lot of time to learn. Astronauts will need to do 160 space walks to finish their work in the ISS. That will take about 1,900 men hours of work.

1. What’s the temperature in the space station?

文章大意:本文主要描述了眼睛对于我们的重要性并介绍了四种保护眼睛的方法。

【推荐2】It is said that eyes are the windows of our soul. Therefore, in order to have healthy eyes, we have to look after them properly. Our eyes need good care every day.

First, we have to pay more attention to our diet. Have more fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs and milk. They are good for our eyes. Besides, a regular amount of vitamin(维生素)A and B2 should also be taken.

Second, we must have a good sleep. It relaxes the eye muscles(肌肉)and gives them the rest they need. Sleep can help the body repair its tired tissue(组织). Usually, we must sleep for at least eight hours every day. Lack of sleep can bring us dark circles around the eyes.

Third, it’s necessary for us to exercise our eyes every day. Blink our eyes at regular time to make the eyeballs watery.

Last, we should use our eyes correctly. For example, if a small thing goes into the eye, don’t rub(擦)it. Rubbing is harmful to our eyes. Don’t read or write in poor or bright sunlight because sunlight can cause eye tiredness. Remember to use sunglasses to stop the sunshine from shining directly into our eyes. Too much reading, writing, watching television or working on the computer can also cause eye tiredness, so a good rest is needed.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述的是研究植物是否能在月球上生长。

【推荐3】Astronauts may soon be going to the moon again. NASA plans to build bases (基地) there. The astronauts will not be able to take all the food they will need. So they may have to grow some of it on lunar farms.

But can plants grow on the moon? Maybe. That is according to a new study. Scientists used soil brought back from past moon missions(任务). They used it to grow plants here on Earth. It turns out, success could depend on where on the moon you do your planting.

In the 1960s and 1970s, NASA ran the Apollo program. It sent astronauts to the moon. In the new study, scientists used soil that astronauts collected there.

Scientists put this soil in little cups. Each cup got about a teaspoon of lunar soil. Other cups got Earth soil. The scientists planted seeds. They watered the soil. They put the cups under growth lights.

In the Earth soil, plants sprouted healthy leaves. Moon soil sprouted leaves too. But those plants were smaller. And they were less healthy. The older the moon soil, the worse the plants grew.

Stephen Elardo is one of the scientists. He says it still might be possible to grow plants on the moon. The key(关键) could be finding the right spot. One example may be where volcanoes(火山) once broken. The soil is newer there. Scientists still have much to learn. But this study brings humans one step closer to calling the moon home.
