It is Erin’s birthday, but she is not happy. Every year, Dad is with her on her birthday. But today, Dad isn’t at home. He is too busy at work.
Mom wants to make Erin happy. She makes a big birthday cake, gets her favorite ice-cream, and she even buys a beautiful green dress for Erin. But it is of no use.
Dad comes home at 7:30 p.m. They have a quick dinner and then see a film. But Erin is still upset. She goes to bed early. She hopes tomorrow will be good.
The next day is Saturday. In the early morning, Erin sees many balloons(气球) in her room. They are red, yellow and blue. There is a small purple box and a card says, “I’m sorry-Dad”. She opens the box and sees a nice necklace(项链). Dad takes her out for lunch and they play in the park. Erin has great fun. She thanks Dad a lot.

At the end of the procession, there is an enormous crocodile (鳄鱼). The boys are the first to leave the circle. They disappear very quickly into their home under the ground. The entrances to their home are in seven large trees. There’s one for each Lost Boy—Nibs, Slightly, Tootles, Curly, the Twins—and one for Peter Pan. Each boy enters through a hole in the trunk (枝干) of his tree. Hook does not know where their home is, but he wants to find it.
Later Nibs goes out for a walk. While he is walking through the woods, the pirates see him. Starkey, the ship’s mate, takes out his pistol (手枪) but Hook stops him and says, “No. I don’t want to shoot one Lost Boy. I want to kill all of them. Go and look for them! I want to find their house!”
The pirates disappear into the woods. Now Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, the ship’s bosun, are alone. Hook begins to talk about the Lost Boys.
“I want Peter Pan, Smee,” he says. “Peter Pan and the crocodile made me lose my left hand.”
“Oh, yes. I know that you are afraid of crocodiles,” says Smee.
“I am not afraid of all crocodiles,” explains Hook quickly. “Just one crocodile. It has my hand and now it wants to eat the rest of me.” Then he sits down on a large mushroom.
“Smee,” he says. “That crocodile wants to kill me, but luckily it has a clock inside it. The clock makes a noise: tick-tock, tick-tock. When I hear the tick-tock of the clock, I have time to run away before the crocodile can catch me.”

For my fifth birthday party, my mom said that we could ask my friends to bring cat and dog food instead of birthday gifts. Then we could give them to the animal shelter(收容所).
When we went to the shelter, we told the worker, “We bring the animals here some cat and dog food. Could you open the back door so it will be easier to bring the food in?”
The shelter worker looked at us and said, “OK.” Then, she met us around back, and when we opened the car full of food, her mouth opened. “Wow! You do have so much pet food!”
I told her about the whole story, and she said. “You and your friends are so great! Thank you for being so kind.” We felt really proud. Even as little kids, we could do something big.

Here are the kinds of things people say when they invite someone to their home.
“Would you please come over for dinner on Saturday night?”
“Hey, we're having a party on Friday. Can you come?”
To reply to an invitation, either say thank you and you accept, or say you're sorry and give an excuse.
“Thanks, I'd love to. What time would you like me to come?” or “Oh, sorry. I've tickets for a movie.”
Sometimes, however, people use expressions that sound like invitations but which are not real invitations. For example:
“Please come over for a drink sometime.”
“Why not get together for a party sometime?”
“Why don't you come over and see us sometime soon?”
They are really just polite ways of ending a conversation.
They are not real invitations because they don't mention(提到)a clear time or date. They just show that the person is trying to be friendly. To reply to expressions like these, people just say “Sure. That would be great!” or “OK. Yes, thanks.”
So next time when you hear what sounds like an invitation, listen carefully. Is it a real invitation or is the person just being friendly?

B.Please go to the cinema with me someday soon. |

In the UK, people start preparing for Christmas soon after Halloween — as early as the beginning of November! In every shop window I pass on my way to school, I see Santa decorations (装饰), candy canes (拐杖糖) and presents. The whole of London is getting ready for Christmas.
One tradition in the UK is to have an advent calendar (圣诞倒数日历). It has 24 little flaps (片状小门) that you can open starting from Dec1. There is a tiny gift behind each flap. It can be makeup, chocolate or stationery, depending on what kind of calendar you buy. You can open one flap each day until you get to the last flap on the morning of Dec 25! This tradition began in the mid-19th century in Protestant areas (新教徒地区) in Germany.
Another interesting tradition began in 1954. Every November, London is lit up by thousands of decorative lights. The lights are shaped like the common symbols of Christmas, such as angels, reindeers (驯鹿) and Christmas trees. It is a breathtaking sight from far away and it is wonderful how the colors create an atmosphere of celebration.
In London, we don’t celebrate Christmas for only one day. You can feel the festive mood around the whole city from November until January.
