The Beijing Hearing Dog Association has a plan. They plan to choose some stray dogs (流浪狗) and train them. Then the dogs will be able to help the old and the deaf.
They will choose young dogs, because it's easier to train them. The kind of dog is not important.
Twenty-four volunteers will join the training. They all have some experience of keeping dogs and they all love dogs. They will learn a special language first from the coach (教练) and they teach the dogs. This training will take 180 days. Then the better-performed dogs will enter the next training. They will learn to understand different sounds, such as knocking on a door and water boiling. Then the dogs will live with the deaf or the old for 30 days.
Some people think the plan won't work, because it will cost a lot of money. But some people like the plan and they would like to be the volunteers.

Song Youyang, a 30-year-old material designer, works on developing such things. She studied material design at a university in Germany and now lives in Shanghai. When she was designing some new products (产品), she couldn’t find any right biomaterials to work with. So, she and her team decided to develop their own new material from fruit rubbish.
This material looks a lot like leather. It keeps the fruits’ taste, sense of touch and nice smell. Song and her team have used this new material to make fashion products such as bags, lamps and vases
The designer thought these products would be popular. Is fact, however, not many people have bought them. “Many people have their old ideas about biomaterials,” said Seng, “They think these materials are too expensive or of poor quality.” As a result, it’s quite difficult for these materials to become widely used. But Song still believes biomaterials will shape the future. She and her team continue to work on new types of “green” materials and products.
Besides Song’s team, many other fashion companies are also working towards the same goal. They are showing us that fashion doesn’t have to mean only luxury (奢华) and waste- it can also protect oar earth.

Mauricio Cantor is a behavioral ecologist (行为生态学家) at Oregon State University. He studies animal behavior and how their behavior is affected by where they live.
In Brazil, local fishers team up with bottlenose dolphins (宽吻海豚). This team-up started more than a hundred years ago. The dolphins and fishers catch the same food: mullet fish (胭脂鱼). “The dolphins are really good at finding fish,” Cantor said. They drive fish toward the coast. Then, the fishers catch the fish in their net (渔网). Once those fish are in the net, dolphins can move in. They catch some fish for themselves.
Cantor’s team studied this partnership (合作关系). They learned that dolphins and fishers depend on the information from each other. They each have to know the right moves. If they don’t, the partnership goes to pieces. Cantor’s team also found that this practice is becoming less and less.
Here is another example of human-animal working together. People in North America teamed up with gray wolves (灰狼). Together, they hunted big animals. These included elk and mammoths (麋鹿和猛犸象). For example, the wolves would run after an elk until it got tired. Once the humans caught up, they would make the kill. There were a large number of mammoths and elk at that time, so it was fine that humans and wolves went after the same thing. There was a great amount of meat to go around. But this special partnership can no longer be seen. However, after running after the animals, some people still leave a bit of meat for the wolves.
“Human-animal partnerships have not been common throughout history, but they show us how humans try their best to team up with the nature.” Cantor said.
