Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. One day, when Paul came out of his office, a boy was walking around the shining car.“Is this your car?” he asked.

One Sunday, when I was reading a newspaper, a special picture touched (触动) me. It gave the clothing sizes of each family member. I thought that this would be a good chance (机会) to teach my children to help those who were less lucky than themselves. I said to my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and three-year-old Megan, “We have so much, but these poor people now have nothing. We’ll share what we have with them.”
I filled (装满) a box with foods and clothes. While I was doing this, I encouraged the children to choose their toys and donate some of their things that they don’t like. Megan watched quietly as the boys took out their old toys and put them together. Then she walked away. A few minutes later she came back with Lucy, her much-loved doll (玩具娃娃). She put the doll on top of the other toys. “Oh, dear,” I said, “you don’t have to give Lucy. You love her so much.” Megan said, “Lucy makes me happy, Mum. Maybe she’ll make another little girl happy, too.”
I looked at Megan for a long moment. She taught me a lesson. It’s easy to give something that we don’t want any more, but hard to give what we cherish (珍爱), isn’t it?

So she should be careful to prevent herself from being hurt. But as she went near this one, she found that it was badly hurt. “I should help it, or it will die.” she thought.

Thin curly hair barely covered her sausage-shaped body. Her bugged-out (凸 出)eyes always seemed surprised. And her tail looked like a rat’s tail. She was brought to the hospital because her owners didn't want her anymore.
I thought Minnie had a sweet personality, though. "No one should judge her by her looks," I thought. She was quite fit and didn't need any treatment. So I advertised Minnie in the local paper: Funny-looking dog, well behaved, needs loving family."
When a young man called, I warned him that Minnie was strange looking. The boy on the phone told me that his grandfather sixteen-year-old dog had just died. They wanted Minnie no matter what. I gave Minnie a good bath and fluffed up (使松散)what was left of her poor hair. Then we waited for them to arrive.
At last, an old car pulled up in front of the vet's. Two kids raced to the door. They took Minnie into their arms and rushed her out to their grandfather, who was waiting in the car. I hurried behind them to see his reaction to Minnie. Inside the car, the grandfather held Minnie in his arms and touched her soft hair gently. She moved her mouth over his face. Her rat tail moved from side to side so quickly that it looked like it might fly off her body. It was love at first lick.

One day, Maria was in her flat building when she noticed her neighbor, Mrs. Garcia, carrying a gardening tool and a bag of soil. Maria wondered how Mrs. Garcia was able to garden in the city.
“My mom used to grow the most delicious vegetables, and I know she misses her garden now that we don't have a yard,” said Maria.
Mrs. Garcia laughed. “I’ll show you,” she said.
Maria thought that Mrs. Garcia would take her to the park, but she took her to the roof (屋顶). When the door opened, Maria was surprised to see rows of flowers and vegetables on the roof.
“What a wonderful garden! ” said Maria.
Mrs. Garcia told Maria that for a long time the roof was just an empty space. Then some of the people in the building asked the owners to turn it into a community garden. The building owners liked the idea because the plants not only helped to keep the air clean, but they also helped to keep the building cooler during warmer weather.
“I plant flowers in my own place,” Mrs. Garcia said, but you would be surprised by how different the plants are up here. Some people grow vegetables just like your mom. You can do some of the same things in the city as in the countryside. You just have to be creative ! "

Although not usually a holiday,April Fool's Day is widely recognized as a time when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other. If someone is taken in by the joke, they are called an “April Fool”.
In some countries, particularly the UK,you must play your April Fool's Day joke before midday, otherwise you become the fool.
It is not at all clear how April Fool's Day started. One of the most famous April Fool's jokes ever was the Swiss Spaghetti Harvest documentary, broadcast by BBC TV in 1957. Many viewers thought that this was a genuine documentary and called in asking where they could buy “spaghetti plants”.
Another example of successful April Fool's jokes was the article published by English Club on April 1, 2008 entitled(题为)UN to Ban ‘Unnecessary’ Languages. This generated(产生)almost immediate 300 comments, many from visitors who believed the article.
