I am a student majoring in (主修) museum studies at the University of Oklahoma. I’ve dreamed of being an artist since I was a little girl. These days, when I’m thinking about why art plays an important role in my life, I find that my love for it comes from my trips to museums.
When I was six, my mother died. After that, my grandmother spent lots of time with me. Although that was a very sad time in my life, seeing her always filled me with excitement and pleasure. We did many relaxing activities, but my favourite was our trips to the local museums. We were both interested in the stories behind the collections. By visiting museums, she wanted to pass on her love for art to me—and she did it.
Since I was a child, I have loved collecting things: erasers, stones, pens... I not only collect things, but also create systems to organize (整理) them. The study at university also teaches me how to maintain (保养) collections. These are good for my work in the museum.
Like my grandmother, I want to share my love for art and collections with others. Museums are so much more than their collections. They are places where people can spend time together. Visit your local museums and you may be surprised at how much you can get out of it.

Luckily, one of the old men had his bed by the window, and every day he spent hours telling his friend far from the window what he could see through the window. He told him about the traffic going by, the children playing in the park opposite, and the birds flying in trees. The old man far from the window got a lot of pleasure from hearing about the world outside, but after a time he began to get rather unhappy. How nice it would be, he thought, if he had the bed by the window and could see everything for him, instead of just hearing about it.
One night, the man by the window called to his friend, “Quick! Pull the alarm by your bed; I don’t think I can get through the night!” But his friends, expecting an empty bed by the window, did nothing---he just closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
The next morning, the nurse found the man dead in his bed by the window.

Dada Bubble Gum(泡泡糖)
Almost all the kids like bubble gum. It's fun to eat bubble gum. Kids often get together to see who gets the biggest bubble. I still remember my sister once blew a big bubble and then it broke, covering her face with gum! I usually bought Dada Bubble Gum from the small stores near my home. It was cheap. I could get two for one yuan.
Sugar Figure(糖人)

Dragons are not real animals, but look like a combination (结合体) of many animals such as snakes, fish and deer. They have two horns (角) and a long moustache (胡须). With fantastic powers, they fly in the sky or swim in the sea. They can make rain, too. The Chinese dragon is a symbol of strength and good luck. The emperors of ancient China loved dragons. Their clothes were covered with pictures of dragons.
We are proud to call ourselves the “descendants of the dragon”. In Chinese, excellent people are often called dragons. A number of Chinese sayings talk about dragons, for example, “Hoping one’s child will become a dragon.” which means hoping he or she will be successful.
It is said that people born in the Year of the Dragon have certain characteristics. They are creative, confident, brave and quick-tempered (易怒的). There are also some traditional festivals about dragons in China, such as Dragon Head-Raising Day and Dragon Boat Festival. We have different kinds of activities to celebrate them. These two festivals come every year, but the Year of the Dragon comes every twelve years. The dragon is very important in Chinese culture. As the “descendants of the dragon”, it is necessary for us to know the opinions on dragons in our culture. It can help us understand why our parents always want us to be “dragons”.

【推荐2】You must have seen it a lot in Chinese cities: people riding electric scooters(电动滑板车)to work for fun.
Riding electric scooters could seem cool at first sight. The scooters balance by itself with one or two wheels(轮子). Some of them also have handles(手柄). Riders lean forward to make the scooter go faster. It also can stop if the rider shifts their weight backwards.
However, starting from the end of August, people can no longer ride electric scooters on public roads. It is in the interests of traffic safety, according to Beijing’s traffic authorities(官方).There will be a 10 yuan fine(罚款)for those who ride scooters on the road. This follows Shanghai’s decision to get scooters off the road last month.
“The one-wheeled scooters can go as fast as 30km an hour and they don’t have brakes(刹车系统).” a traffic policeman told Beijing Youth Daily, “Two-wheeled scooters can even go as fast as cars at 60km an hour. But their brakes cannot compete with that of a car. It’s very easy for scooters to run into cars or buses or hurt people on roads.”
But this doesn’t mean that scooters are only dangerous on public roads. People who ride them indoors or in their living places should also be careful, according to Beijing Consumer Association.
There are still no national safety standards for electric scooters and some of them are very dangerous.
The association tested more than 20 electric scooters from different companies and found that most had safety problems. Nineteen scooters couldn’t come to a full stop in less than 4 meters. This could be very dangerous.

【推荐3】Imagine this: You are tired after a very long day. You get on a bus and make your way to a seat near the back. Then a white man comes on the bus. The bus driver tells you to give up your seat for the man. If you don’t, he’ll call the police and have you arrested(逮捕). That’s what Rosa Parks suffered in 1955.
Back then, that’s how life was for many African Americans in parts of the United States. Rosa Parks helped change that. Parks died in 2005. But the influence of her brave actions can still be seen today.
Taking a Stand
When Parks was a young woman, many states in the South had segregation laws. These laws separated white people and black people. Black people had to go to separate restaurants, schools, and theaters. They had to sit in the back of public buses. They also had to give up their seats to the white. Living in one of these cities, Montgomery, Rosa Parks thought these laws were unfair so she decided to do something about it. On December 1, 1955, she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. The police arrested her.
Leading the Way
Because of the terrible things Parks experienced, black people started to give up city buses in Montgomery. Thousands of black people refused to take the bus. Instead, they walked, carpooled, or took cabs to work for more than a year.
This made the rest of the nation pay attention to the unfair laws. On November 13, 1956, the Supreme Court, the nation’s highest court, banned(禁止) segregation on buses.
Parks encouraged others to stand up for their rights too. “I just wanted to be free like everybody else”, Parks once said.
