One day in April, a special activity called“Food Street”was held on the playground at Railway No. 1 Middle School in Xi’an.
This activity was part of the English Art Festival in the school. The students in each class were divided(被划分) into some groups. Each group sold different kinds of foods. The students did the shopping and the cooking all by themselves. The students cooked delicious food such as fried chicken, potato chips and vegetables. They all worked hard and sold the food at low prices. The customers(顾客) were all students, teachers and parents. They were all pleased with the nice food.
“It’s really hard work,” said one of the students who took part in the activity. “We must make a plan before the cooking. We must know how much we should spend on the things we need. Also, we must learn how to serve customers well.”
“This activity is to give a chance to students to develop(培养) their practical abilities(实践能力),” said one teacher, “What’s more, the students will not only learn how to make money by their own hands, but also know the meaning of life. ”

When you meet a lot of difficulties in your life, what should you do? Are you sad, are you upset or are you confident? If you feel sad or have too much pressure, why don’t you join the laughter (笑声) yoga club to relax?
Today, laughter yoga is popular, with 5,000 clubs in Asia, America and Europe.
“People are under high pressure in the workplace,” said Kataria, an Indian worker. “Suddenly, I had an idea one early morning,” said Kataria. “Why not start a laughter club?”
On the same day, Kataria invited a few friends and shared jokes with them. This encouraged him very much. Kataria thinks that children could laugh 400 times a day because they laugh for no reason. But grown-ups laugh less than 15 times. Thanks to Kataria, every morning, members of the club practice the laughter. “We laugh for no reason and in doing so we laugh off some stress and add more laughter to our life. All we need is to laugh and we can ‘laugh for no reason’.”
Laughter yoga has greatly helped some people who have lost all hope, like 80-year-old Somoti, who said she had lost the use of her legs before joining it. The doctor also said she wouldn’t stand by using her legs. But now she can go to the club on foot.
Today, she is back on her feet and enjoys the club every morning. That has given Somoti a good reason to smile.
Laughter is the best medicine. People have known this for centuries and science proves it. So let’s laugh together.

This summer, Sun Ruifeng, a mother in Beijing, changed some of her plans for her 8-year-old son’s summer vacation. She looked for an English class, but in the end, she changed it to a swimming training class. “Because of the stricter rules on subject-training classes, many parents like me choose sports or other projects for developing interests instead,” Sun said.
On July 24, Chinese government introduced a guideline(指导方针)to the amount(量)of homework and after-school training for primary and junior high school students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and the difficulty of homework and improving the quality(质量)of education and after-class services provided by schools. For example, homework for children below the third grade is not allowed, while homework for junior high school students should take less than 90 minutes to finish.
Many parents showed their support(支持)for the new moves. “Subject learning is enough at school and we hope to improve the children’s quality of life during holidays,” a parent surnamed Zhou in Guangzhou told Xinhua.

The reason for it is simple—if you keep the smaller ones, fewer fish will be able to grow and reproduce (繁殖), and the fish population will be in danger. But should we always keep the big ones?
One scientist, Dr. David Conover, has spent the last 10 years studying the effects of the “keep the big ones” rule.
To set up his experiment, Conover and his team caught hundreds of silverside fish and divided them into six groups. For two groups, Conover followed the “keep the large ones” rule and took out the biggest fish. For two other groups, he removed only the small fish. For the last two groups, he removed fish randomly (随机地).
After five years, he measured the fish in each group. In the two groups where the largest fish were regularly removed, the average (平均) fish size was smaller than the average size in the other groups. That is to say, if only small fish survive to reproduce, then future generations of fish are likely to be small.
For the second five years of his experiment, Conover changed the rules and took fish randomly from each group. At the end of the experiment, he found that the fish that were in the “keep the large ones” group for the first five years had started to get larger again, although he expected it would take at least 12 years for the fish in that group to return to their normal size. In other words, it takes less time to shrink (变小) than it does to recover.

B.The fish in the “keep the large ones” group grew to their normal size in the experiment. |
C.It takes fish more time to recover to their normal size than it does to grow smaller. |
D.The fish in the six groups had the same average size at the end of the experiment. |
A.To ask people to catch big fish. |
B.To describe a scientific experiment. |
C.To tell people the danger fish are facing. |
D.To introduce the rules of fishing to readers. |

Without it, many become lonely, sad and even sick. So, if you feel you need a hug, we know something you can safely put your arms around and hold close: a tree!
Tree hugging may sound a little strange. But humans have practiced forms of nature therapy (疗法) for years. The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku is an example. Shinrin means forest in Japanese, and Yoku is the Japanese word for bath. But no soap or water is needed for Shinrin Yoku. All that nature bathing requires is spending time in nature: listening to its sounds, breathing in its air and connecting to its life force.
Recently, Israel has been encouraging tree hugging. The country’s nature and parks agency agrees on the public health campaign. Orit Steinfeld is director of Israel’s Apollonia National Park. She says, "In this special period, we encourage people around the world to go out to nature, take a deep breath, hug a tree, express love and get love." Inside the park, some visitors have followed the advice and hugged trees. Barbara Grant is one of them. She says, "The most basic human need is for connection, for touching, and for hugging."
