There are quite a few advantages of wearing school uniforms. The idea may seem disagreeable at first, but considering all the positive effects coming from wearing uniforms you would be more likely to enjoy them.
Teachers love school uniforms because it helps provide an orderly learning environment. Having students dressed in uniforms may teach them how to present themselves in a neat and professional manner. It gives students the opportunity to learn how to dress like young ladies and gentlemen. And they can focus their attention on studies rather than fashion.
Buying school uniforms is easy. No matter what the school rules are, there are only several pieces to the wardrobe that are necessary, so it won’t break the bank. School uniforms can last a long time. Parents could also enjoy an easy morning, as it will take less time to choose a set of clothes for the school day.
Students wearing uniforms will feel less pressure about what to wear or not to wear when their classmates are dressed similarly. Getting dressed before school becomes less of a chore when students are limited in their choices, so there shouldn’t be any trouble about choosing an outfit for the day and getting ready quickly. Some students may not like the lack of individuality with uniforms, but it doesn’t matter so much. Right?
Uniforms today are also becoming more fashionable and can be seen in many areas of pop culture. Celebrities and fashion designers are using uniforms as inspiration for new looks which also attract students.

Mapping out the future
Last summer, my parents and I took a drive to another state. Before we started on our road trip, we packed up the car with snacks, water, and music. Thankfully, we also had our GPS packed. A few hours into the trip, we took a wrong turn. But our trusty GPS pulled up a map of that area and got us back or track in no time. It made me wonder: Who creates maps in the first place? After some searching online I learned that the people who map out roads, mountains, oceans and other places around the world are called cartographers (制图师). I did some reading about the career. Here’s what I found:
What does a cartographer do?
Cartographers, also called mapmakers, study and interpret (诠释) geographic information. They use this information to make detailed maps of places around the world. Some of these maps are digital (数字的). They are often used in GPS systems. Other maps are printed in books. To do their work, cartographers put together information from many different places. They also use ground surveys. Some do ground surveys themselves. Most cartographers, however, depend on surveyors (测绘员) for this important information. Surveyors collect information for mapmaking. They measure land, air space, and water areas.
What does it take to be a cartographer?
Most cartographers have a bachelor (学士) degree. The degree might be in cartography (制图学), geography, or something similar. Students who are interested in becoming cartographers should learn as much as they can about geography. It also helps to take courses in maths and computer science.
With the rise of computer-based tools such as GPS systems, cartographers need stronger computer skills than they did in the past.
How much do cartographers make?
The average (平均) yearly salary (薪水) for cartographers is $54, 000. The lowest 10 percent earns (挣钱) less than $32, 000. The top 10 percent earns more than $92, 000.
________
In the U. S., job opportunities (机会) for cartographers are expected to grow. This is because of the increasing use of maps in the army. Also, digital maps have increasingly become a main part of many GPS systems and Web sites.
Based on what I’ve read about cartographers, I’d say that their work is very important to a lot of people. Next time a map keeps me from getting lost, I’ll be sure to thank a cartographer!

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of our school, we had a special activity: designing our own school uniforms.
We were all excited and couldn’t wait to get started. My classmate Pei Youyang designed three types of sports clothes to wear in different seasons. “These clothes are all big and comfortable, suitable for playing sports. There are elastic cords(松紧带) in the trousers so that we can change the trouser leg opening to higher places such as to the knees,” she said. To keep students safe at night, she also added three reflective lines on the trousers.
Wang Yuchuhan made different kinds of dresses only for girls. “Most of the school uniforms look mostly the same, and the girls’ beauty is often affected by the clothes,” said Wang. “So I designed some beautiful dresses to let girls show their young, energetic look confidently.”
As for me, I designed uniforms in a traditional Chinese style. There are Chinese elements(元素) such as the pattern of Xiangyun and ink paintings. The main colors are blue and dark green, which can show the students’ elegant qualities(优雅的特质). I believe they’ll look good when students attend formal situations such as ceremonies or meetings with foreign guests.
“I’m surprised that the students all did such a marvelous job,” said Ms Sun Congmin from the school. “Their designs are pretty, proper and useful. This is really a meaningful activity where students showed their talent and creativity.”

【推荐3】Some people think that the debate (辩论) about school uniforms is just about whether students look cool. In fact, this problem is connected with other topics, such as student performance (表现), money, and personal choice. The school uniform debate is very important to parents, teachers, and school official — and to students, too!
Many students argue (争论) that school uniforms would save their parents’ money. According to Nahla, an eighth-grader, “Kids whose families don’t have a lot of money wouldn’t be teased (嘲笑) for their unfashionable clothes.” Besides, some students think that uniforms would help them give much attention to learning. “I think it’s a great idea. Wearing uniforms would teach students that schoolwork is more important than looking good,” argues tenth-grader, Heba. Others believe that school uniforms would help students study better. In the words of a twelfth-grader named Aziza, “If all students have to wear the same uniform, they will try to impress others with their schoolwork and grades, not their clothes.”
Some students are against school uniforms. They argue that uniforms would cost their parents more money, “Uniforms are expensive and can only be worn at school. My parents would still have to buy me other clothes to wear on weekends and after school,” explains ninth-grader, Sherine. According to a twelfth-grader named Susan, “School uniforms don’t allow personal choice.” She feels that uniforms don’t allow students to be creative or express their own decisions about what to wear. Finally, many students like eleventh-grader Reema say that uniforms are uncomfortable. “Students like to wear comfortable clothes,” she says.
In a word, there are strong arguments on both sides of the school uniform debate. Whatever the result is, one thing is important: before making a decision about whether to require uniforms, school officials must consider the opinions of everyone — especially the students.
