At my school in the UK, Design & Technology（D&T） is a very popular class. Unlike other subjects such as math, D&T is for students to design （设计） and make things to solve problems in real life.

This semester, my D&T teacher asked us to make a product. （A） I chose a bookshelf as it is one of the easiest things to make and it can be used in my room.

The project includes three stages: planning, modeling （建模） and manufacturing （制造）. During the modeling stage, we need to learn to use the software CAD to model the product before making a real shape of it. Manufacturing is the most important and time-consuming （耗时的） stage. Students need to build their product from the modeling draft （草图）, using materials the school provides like plywood （胶合板）, plastic and steel.

After modeling my bookshelf as one with three shelves, I started making it. I sanded （用砂纸打磨） the plywood and used it to cut the first five pieces of wood. Then I glued them together to make the first box.

The second box was a bit hard to make as it included a gap to put a slide （滑动部件） in. The third box is the base （基础） box of the other two boxes.To make the middle area stronger, I added a support board to （B） it. The final step was to screw （用螺钉固定） the three boxes together into a whole.

I enjoyed this class because it helped me to develop hands-on skills. （C） After building my bookshelf, I felt more confident in myself. I can solve more real-life problems in the future.

【推荐3】In most classes, students sit at desks and listen to teachers in a classroom. But in a new class at Chapman Middle School (CMS) in Kansas, US, students are leaving the blackboards behind for blue sky and green grass.

They are actually taking an outdoor life class. It's not a typical(典型的) class, but teachers are trying it out.

“We want kids to experience the outdoors,” the teacher John Harris said.

Twenty-six students took part in the semester-long class. The class includes four parts: archery(射箭), hunting safety, survival skills and fishing. Students will also discuss how to protect natural resources.

Before Harris' class this year, archery teacher Andy Fewin taught a 9-week outdoor life class. He shares the same idea with Harris. He believes everyone needs “ enjoy life” and “get outside”.

“The outdoor life class aims(目的) to get the kids interested in coming to school, really enjoying their class time.” Harris said.

But he said everyone needs to finish their other work first. “It really teaches them to focus and pay attention in class. If they don't, then they'll miss out on the fun things they're doing.” he said.

It’s nice to have friends. Well, how can we have friends?

First, spend more time with people. If you want to make friends, you need to meet people. You can go to places like coffee shops or clubs to meet people.

Then, care about your friends. After you decide to make friends with someone, you must care about him or her. “A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.” Although it’s not necessary for you and your friends to be the same, you need to know them. You should help them when they have problems. Next, be a good listener. It’s important to show that you’re interested in others. Listen carefully to what people say and try to learn more about them.

At last, encourage your friends. Good friends will share both good and bad things. Never laugh at your friends in front of others. If someone is laughing at your friends, you should stop him or her.
