I was lying in bed yesterday afternoon after a big dinner. There was nothing interesting on television. The book I was trying to read seemed boring too. Finally I put the book down, closed my eyes, and let myself take a nap(小睡).
Suddenly, I felt a big, wet tongue(舌头)lick(舔)my face. My eyes opened and I saw our dog Fluffy standing there looking at me. I smiled and touched his head. After a moment, I got up and we went outside. The sun was breaking through the clouds and warmed the cool air a bit. I laughed as I ran with him around the backyard.
He sniffed(嗅)the grass and took in the daily dog news with his nose when the wind blew lightly. After we went back inside, we played in the hallway. I threw a ball for him, and he brought it back to me. Then he jumped up on my bed and decided to take a nap of his own. It seemed like even while he was asleep, our pet dog never found life boring.
I think we all could learn a lot from Fluffy. In life, there is time for napping and time for playing. There is time for reading and time for doing. There is time for giving, laughing, and sharing. There is time to sing, to smile, to hug, and to dance. There is time to walk your dog and smell the flowers in the breeze(微风). But there is never time to be bored. We only get a certain amount of time to live. Don’t waste a second of it on boredom(无聊).

Struggling (斗争) with this, he went into the forest alone. There, he met an old man who had lived there for a long time. “Look,” the old man said, “Do you see that fern (蕨类植物) and bamboo there?”
“Yes.” the man answered.

“However, I watered the bamboo seed for years, it still didn’t sprout. But I didn’t give up and continued looking after it. In the fifth year, a small sprout came out of the land. Within six months, the tree grew a hundred feet tall.”
“The little bamboo tree had been growing underground in the past four years, developing a root strong enough for its ground growth (生长) in the fifth year. Dear Mr Henshaw, Sunny
I keep a diary because you tell me it is good to practice writing every day. You are right! It really helps me with my writing but sometimes I don’t want to do that. I just want to watch TV. You know what? The TV in my home can’t work but my mum doesn’t plan to have it repaired (修理). She thinks watching TV is bad for me. That’s why sometimes I get angry with her.
Well, let me tell you a happy thing. You know I like reading in the library on Friday afternoon and borrow some books. Today the school librarian (图书管理员) stops me when I'm leaving the library. She says,“Leigh Botts, please wait. I have something for you.” Then she gives me your new book Beggar Bears and says, “You are so lucky to be the first to read it in our school.” I feel very surprised (吃惊的). She goes on, “You always read books in the library on Friday afternoon, and always borrow the books by Mr Henshaw. So I guess you like him a lot.” I’m so happy because I know Mr Fridley (a cleaner) isn’t the only one who knows me in the new school. Now I am on page14 of Beggar Bears. It is a good book.
Yours,
Leigh Botts

That night, I just had a strong desire to let Mom and Dad know how much I loved them, how much they meant to me, and how thankful I was for what they gave me. Because I was too shy to tell them my feelings face to face, I wrote the note and put it on the desk in their bedroom. I couldn’t wait to make them see the note soon. I imagined how they would feel after they read the note thousands of times before going to bed.
Early the next morning, I heard a soft knock at my door. As soon as I opened the door, I found my mom and dad standing outside. They kissed me and thanked me for the note. Mom said that she was thinking I was a little child, but to her surprise, I grew into a young boy unconsciously. Dad said he was happy that I could share my true feelings with them.
Seeing the smiles on their faces made me laugh happily. At the same time, I was surprised that my simple words could touch them so much. On that day, I saw my dad cry for the first time. The beautiful memory stayed in my heart from then on.
