Scientists predict that most of the polar bears will die out by 2100 because of global warming. Polar bear are found in the far north, inside the Arctic Circle. It is believed that there are about 25, 000 polar bears left. Polar bears spend most of their lives on the ice that covers the Arctic Ocean.
Polar bears depend on ice to hunt. In winter, they eat as much as possible to store up energy. But these days there’s less winter ice, meaning the bears have less area for hunting.
Summers are the hardest time for polar bears with less ice to hunt on, they are forced to spend more time on land, where there isn’t much food.
To help save polar bears, action is needed to reduce the influence of global warming.

Giraffes live in Africa. They have a very long neck. A giraffe can be more than 18 feet tall.
A giraffe has four long, thin legs. The front legs are longer than the back legs. It runs at the speed of about 50 kilometres each hour. A giraffe is probably famous for its long neck. It can reach the leaves at the top of the trees.
A giraffe can live for 20-25 years in the wild, and often longer at zoos. An adult (成年的) giraffe eats up to 140 pounds of food each day. A giraffe spends most of a day eating and it gets just a few leaves once. It eats leaves on tall trees, tall bushes and tall grass, too. But its favourite food is leaves on the acacia trees (金合欢树). Acacia leaves contain a lot of water, so a giraffe can go a long time without drinking.

We first discovered the crows on Friday morning. It was early and the sound the birds made travelled through our neighborhood. I thought they would go away soon. But, no. They were getting louder and probably made my neighbors angry almost as much as us with the noise. I felt a little worried.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, I looked out of the kitchen window to see our cat Nardin watching something on the ground. I found a small black bird in the grass. Its eyes were milky and it stayed quite still as my cat walked towards it. Only when Nardin touched its head did it walk away. I caught Nardin and locked him inside and came back with my camera.
I never thought that the young crow would be hanging out on the ground, growing stronger and stronger as its parents guarded it from above. The second time I saw this little crow, I forgave (原谅) the crows.
To be honest, though I have never been much of a bird person, I also have a healthy respect for birds. They are basically living dinosaurs (恐龙).
I wish they chose another garden. There are only so many sunny days in Seattle, and I still can’t do any gardening out there. But I’m also thankful that I get to see this little bit of nature. It’s pretty amazing.
The experience has also strengthened (增强) my wish to create a beautiful garden that attracts lots of bees, butterflies and yes, birds. They are welcome here.

It’s reported that a common family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of this waste takes hundreds of years to decay. Also, it costs much money to buy new things to take the place of the things we throw away.
In order to protect the environment and save money, my family has recycled everything. On the one hand, we collect used things every day, such as paper, bottles and boxes, and put them into different bins. Then they are sent to a recycling center. Finally, they are treated and can be used again. Recycling will help reduce a lot of waste. On the other hand, we use old clothes to make different kinds of bags. I especially like to use old jeans to make bags. These cute and useful bags are popular with young people. As a result, I open a small shop and set up a website to sell them online.
What’s more, my parents and my brother often go to work by bike. If it rains, they’ll take the bus. We’re also going to grow our own vegetables, raise cows, keep hens and ducks. Soon, we’ll be able to have eggs and milk for meals.

The fashion company of Alia Juma’s showed its newest collection at a workshop in Shanghai. Eighteen clothing kinds from the collection were made of recycled plastic bottles. “We realized that billions of water bottles are thrown into oceans every year and it would take hundreds of years to break down. We should use them to improve the environment,” said Alia Juma, the company’s designer. “Five bottles can make a shirt, 10 a dress, and 20 a short coat.”
Many other fashion companies are finding similar ways to save our planet these days. The process is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. Then they are melted (熔化) and shaped into small balls. Then the balls are melted again to form threads (线). People can then use the threads to make different kinds of clothes.
According to Juma, it takes 67, 000 bottles to produce 1 ton of threads. This cuts down carbon emissions (碳排放) by 4.2 tons and water use by 6.2 tons compared with the normal way of making threads.
Some people might have wondered about wearing something made of plastic bottles. But in fact, clothes made of plastics can be even better than those made from common materials. Plastic threads can also be made into different materials, such as cotton, silk, or even wool. It seems that this innovation (创新) may lead to a greener future of fashion.

Twenty-five years ago, most British young people wanted to be doctors or lawyers in the future. If they were open-minded, they might even want to be singers. But today, things are quite different.
According to a survey, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger or “vlogger”(视频博主). The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal jobs.
The reasons for this change are the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach everyone around the world, without having to enter an acting career in the traditional way.
“In years gone by, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios(工作室). Now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star,” a Tesco Mobile spokesperson said. “These self-made stars record(记录) and show their hobbies to their fans. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people chatting with their fans about everyday life.”
However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they don’t notice the fact that only those who are successful get fame(名望) and money. For every success, there are a hundred others who fail. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that still stay dreams.
Among those vloggers, some have different opinions. Fame is not what they really want. They just make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. A Young man called David Leshaw, for example, has his own company called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. He thinks his job helps him to show his passion(热情), and at the same time, he learns a lot from it. That’s enough for him.

It’s hard to say where soccer’s birthplace is. Many people in old days played early forms (形式) of this modern game. Cu ju (蹴鞠), a ball-kicking game in China, was reported as early as 2500 B.C.
Around the same time in Greece. People were also playing a similar ball game without using their hands.
But modern soccer didn’t become official (官方的) until 1863. An Englishman called Cobb Morley introduced the idea of a soccer association (联盟). He also wrote the sport’s official rules. From then on, other associations in the countries were set up. They came together to make up the FIFA, which organizes the World Cup.
It’s not easy to tell what makes soccer so popular. But one reason is how simple the sport is.
Soccer needs only two feet and a ball. This makes it a sport that developing countries can easily play. Some of the sport’s best players come from these poor nations.
Soccer performances are pleasing to the eyes. The sport’s no-hands rule makes beautiful dance-like movements on the field. What’s more, this sport excites the heart. Teams might score only a few times each match, so matches can turn around suddenly.
No one knows who will win at the next World Cup. But one thing is certain: The world will be watching.

We didn't want it to become a habit, we just wanted to see why everyone wanted to do it so much. I'm happy I tried it, because it killed my curiosity(好奇心) right away. I coughed a lot, my throat(喉咙) burned, and I felt dizzy (眩晕). I hated every part of it, and I knew it was something I should never do again."

I said something about how smoking is cool. He lit(点燃) the cigarette and told me to smoke it. I tried and began to cough right away. He put his hand on my back and told me if I ever smoked again. I would smell bad, my teeth would be ugly and I would cough. And if I was with my friends, they would think I was stupid. I never forgot that day, and I never wanted to smoke again."
Zhao Bing who is two years older than Li Yang and lived in Shijiazhuang said, "I hate smoking! Because my father died of smoking. He smoked too much that he got the lung cancer.
