When you have a problem with your homework, what do you do? Many students used to upload (上传) a picture of the homework to find answers in the apps, which could help them to solve some difficult problems.
Some parents also used the apps to help children with their homework. “It is already challenging for me to solve fifth-grade math questions,” a parent surnamed Lu told online newspaper Sixth Tone. “The Apps can help me to check his homework.” However, not anymore.
On Dec 13, the Ministry of Education said that homework help apps, which allow students to get answers by taking photos and uploading them online, will be removed temporarily (暂时). These apps may make students lazy, affect (影响) their independent thinking and go against the law of education and teaching, the ministry said.
Some online tutoring (辅导) apps may be affected, and they have many users. For example, the Zuoyebang app had more than 100 million users in 2020, according to a report by Xueyan Thinktank. Meanwhile, at the end of 2019, about 8.6 billion searches had been made in the Xiaoyuan Souti app. It solved at least 23.47 million questions each day, reported Global Times.
How badly these apps have influenced younger users! These homework help apps have spoiled (毁掉) many students and they depend on these apps too much. They can’t control themselves to copy the answers in the Apps. As a result, they seem to finish their homework efficiently (有效率地) but actually score poorly in exams.

Dear Editor,
Can’t your newspaper do something about the habit if hitchhiking(搭乘)?
On a recent car trip Icounted at least 50 people standing beside the road, asking for rides. Many of them were young girls.
Don’t they understand how dangerous it is to get into a car driven by a stranger? What do they know about the driver’s character or ability to drive? Nothing.
Many of the young hitchhikers probably come from good families. Don’t their parents teach them anything about the world? I always teach my children not to talk to strangers. I never allow them to accept rides from people they didn’t know.
Isn’t there enough crime (犯罪) today without asking for trouble by hitchhiking?

Bike-sharing plans are warmly welcomed in many cities. Mobike had 5.85 million active users while ofo had 1.4 million in the first week of this year.
People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smartphones. All bikes have GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They’re popular among many Chinese people because they help solve “last-mile” problems in cities. For example, many people find it difficult to get to the hotel when they get off trains or to travel around the city.
However, the plans have also led to problems such as illegal parking, vandalism (故意破 坏 ) and theft( 偷 盗 ). In February, two nurses in Beijing were placed under administrative detention (行政拘留) for five days for putting locks on two shared bikes.
In fact, these problems are also shared by bike-sharing plans abroad. Started in 2007, Velib is the largest public bike sharing system in Paris. At its early period, it also met with problems of vandalism or theft. To deal with these problems, the company came up with the idea of encouraging people to return the bikes to stations by rewarding free time for their next rides.
Now, Chinese service organizations are also trying to deal with these problems. For example, Mobike sets a 100-point credit score(信用分数) for each user, but the points will be taken because of his or her bad behavior. Once a score drops below 80, bike rental(租金)will be increased from 1 yuan to 100 yuan per 30 minutes.

D.People will be rewarded by riding bikes for free forever. |
A.people park their bikes wherever they want to |
B.people steal the shared bikes |
C.people reuse the broken bike parts |

Several years ago, Kang Yu arrived at the village school as a teaching volunteer. He found these children didn’t know how to express their emotions (情绪) properly. To give an outlet (发泄途径) for their emotions, Kang began to teach them to write poetry (诗). At first, the children didn’t even know what poetry was. After a few months, more and more students fell in love with writing poems.
Kang was surprised that when writing poetry, students were a little different. In the past, they liked making trouble in class. But gradually they became quiet in poetry class. In their poems, sometimes they wrote about loneliness and sadness when missing their parents. And sometimes they wrote happy memories around them. A boy who spent little time with his father handed in a poem: “Ten years later, I want to be a father like the sea, and I’ll let my children sit on my back, which is like a boat for them.” These young poets (诗人) became better at writing poems.
Poetry cannot help children solve their problems in life, but at least students can take poetry writing as a way to express their emotions and see the beauty in life. “When children love life, it is possible for them to reduce pain or find new happiness,” said Kang.

In many parents’ eyes, school grades are the most important for their children. In reality (现实), there are many things to consider besides the school subjects. For example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get along well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough if you want to have a great life.
Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may be successful in life. You may have already known that some celebrated people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well at school or even failed to finish school. In fact, there are a lot more than just the big shots who are successful in life without finishing school. They seize (抓住) every chance to learn and finally make it to the top.
Life is really a long lesson, so long that you can’t define (界定) a person’s success by just one section (部分) of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying (令人满意的) life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at school, don’t take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents. That’s how you can live a happy and successful life.

Animals have their special ways to deal with hard times in nature. The superb fairy-wren, one kind of bright-blue bird in Australia, is one example. This year, a ten-year study showed that this small bird has eggs of different sizes in different kinds of weather. When the weather is hot and dry there is less food for young superb fairy-wrens, and they die easily. So the mother bird will make larger eggs to help her babies grow stronger inside before they break out of the eggs into the "hungry" world.
However, not all mother birds are able to do this. Only those with at least one male child can. When the weather is "good", the mother will make smaller eggs, and her sons will bring food back for their baby brothers and sisters from the eggs. With her sons' help, the mother can save more energy to make larger eggs when the weather is bad. Isn't this amazing?

On WeChat, some people say, “What a pity that we cannot see the damaged parts of the wonders anymore.” But people can see them in a new way—through a video game. In this game, the player can travel to one city after another and enter the buildings exactly like they are in reality, and see the wonders as they were before the fire.
Maybe digital technology (数字技术) could help protect cultural heritage better. This idea dates back to the 1990s and the necessary technology has continued to develop since then. By scanning (扫描) the ancient buildings, building 3D models, as well as measuring everything, scientists can make a copy exactly as the real one.
As computers and smart phones are popular, the digital copy has great value. First, it allows tourists to feel the cultural heritage without touching them, which helps protect them. The virtual tour of Dunhuang Grottoes (敦煌石窟) is a good example of this as tourists can view the paintings without standing near them.
Second, it can make the cultural heritage more famous by spreading information about them through the Internet. In 2000, a virtual tour of the Dunhuang Grottoes became very popular at the Hannover World Expo, which increased the number of foreign tourists visiting the site in the following years.
Last, it stores all the information of the cultural heritage. Even if the real ones are damaged one day, people can still know what they were like and can build a new one if wanted. Of course, however exact a model is, it is not the real one.
Maybe we will have better technologies in the future, but the digital technology offers a practical way to protect cultural heritage at the moment.

Paper is one of the most important inventions. You can’t have printing without paper. In 105 AD, Cai Lun invented paper in China. Long before the printer and Internet, Cai Lun’s invention allowed us to write down information, stories and history.
One of the simplest inventions to save life is the toilet. Before toilet, waste ran into the rivers from people’s houses. Illnesses were common in big cities, and it was often difficult to find clean drinking water.
Animal food is another invention. Before the invention, most animals were killed every autumn because there was not enough food for them in the winter. After hay(牧草) became a kind of common animal food, animals could live through the long winter.
Reading glasses is the fourth invention. People start getting farsighted from the age of 45. Glasses mean that anyone can read, write, and do “close work” after that age. Without glasses, the world would be difficult for people above 45.

These days many young people write diaries just for other people to read. In the US, one in five students have their own web page. There are stories, pictures and, of course, diaries on it.
Lots of children like writing online diaries because they can write anything they like. “In real life, you can’t always say what you think.” says Mandy, a student from California. “But on the Internet, you are more free.” Mandy has over twenty thousand fans on the Internet. They know what she’s busy with, what she’s wearing and how she feels through her page. Mandy gets about two hundred emails every day from her fans.
However, some people are not sure that online diaries are safe. “The young need to be careful about what they write on a website.” says a mother of three. “You don’t know who’s visiting your website and maybe they’re trying to find you,” she says, “It’s playing with fire.”
Different people have different ideas. We are sure that the Internet makes the world smaller. People get closer to each other. But it’s also important to keep ourselves safe.
