In your spare time, do you help your parents with chores around the house? Can you cook for your family?
In order to stress (强调) the importance of hard-working spirit education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee recently released (发布) a guideline(指导纲要).
The guideline calls for students to respect labor work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.
The government has been trying to stress the importance of hard-working spirit education. But this has been overlooked (忽视) in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard and aren’t interested in doing so.
According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening Neus in March, only 22% of students help with everyday chores around the house. Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says.
Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.
As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

Over half of the children surveyed said they had been bullied(欺负)by a sibling, and one in three said they had been hit, kicked or pushed by a sibling, others complained of name-calling and having their belongings stolen.
Other reasons for only children being much happier include not having to compete(竞争)for parents’ attention or share bedrooms with a sibling, said Gundi Knies, a researcher on the project.
Dr. Ruth Koppard, a child psychologist, said, “In an average home, the more children, the less privacy for each child. Some love sharing a bedroom with a sibling but they would rather choose to do it than have to do it”.
Homes with just one child make up nearly half of all families in Britain.
The study, to be published on Friday, questioned 2,500 young people. It also found that seven out of 10 teenagers are “very satisfied” with their lives.

For children and teenagers,it is not only about preventing bad outcomes, but also about bringing benefits.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) looked at data from nearly three quarters of the world's countries. They found that students who share a main meal with their families are less likely to skip school(逃学) and to take drugs and alcohol.
In the report, titled The Importance of Family Dinners, researchers say that teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what's going on in their lives.
Another study from the University of Montreal finds that children who eat with their families experience long-term physical and mental health benefits. These children are physically in better shape and drink fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seem to have better social skills and are less violent. One of the researchers, Pagani, says that mealtimes with parents possibly provide young children with firsthand social events, which helps them have better communication skills.

A new standard (标准) for labor (劳动) education recently came out. Students in primary and middle school will have at least one class a week to try and experience different kinds of chores and learn different life skills and even job skills for each grade.
Middle school students need to learn the following skills:
Everyday Chores
Seventh-to-ninth-graders have to clean up their rooms and classrooms. When there’s a travel plan, they should pick their proper clothes and pack a suitcase (行李箱) by themselves. While fifth-and sixth-graders know how to cook two or three common dishes, middle school students need to cook one or two more dishes than them. Making healthy daily eating plan is also necessary to learn. What’s more, they are asked to challenge themselves to look after and fix home appliances, such as washing the air conditioner(空调) and cleaning the washing machine.
Productive Labor
Middle school students have to take part in both local labor, such as planting and fishing, and one or two industrial products (工业产品), like paper-making. Making one or two kinds of traditional handicrafts (手工艺品) such as pottery (陶艺) and wood caving (木工) is in the standard, too.
Service Labor
It’s middle school students’ duty to do one or two kinds of volunteer work like helping put the shared bikes in order and be ready to take part in modern service labor.
This move is to make Chinese students’ life colorful and build their character through labor. Schools and homes are the main positions to achieve the goals of labor education. The standard also calls on families to take part in students’ labor education in order to help students be more independent.
So let us develop labor abilities and spirits on this summer vacation!

Studies show that students who hear the words of the second teacher will do better. Those students are learning that their effort is important.
Psychologists(心理学家)looked at what students did after they were given different types of praise. Some students were told that they were good at a task. They didn’t try very hard the next time. Other students were told that they had worked hard at a task. They worked even harder the next time. The first group of students was learning that they had a set amount of skill. They didn’t think they could do any better. This is called a fixed mindset(思维模式). The second group was learning that they could do better if they kept trying. This is called a growth mindset. People who have a growth mindset believe that the brain can grow; people can do better and learn new skills. If they work hard, they can be successful.
How can teachers and parents help students succeed? They can focus mainly on effort and not simply on ability. When students succeed, teachers and parents should praise the actual work rather than intelligence(智力)or talent. When students fail, they should be told how they can do better. Teachers, parents and students need to value effort, not intelligence.

Dear Miss Hooper, I’m writing to thank you for your help this year. There were lots of lessons, but you made sure I could understand each one. To tell the truth, you’re the best teacher I’ve met. You explain things so clearly, and are also so kind. I really enjoyed every minute of your class. There were so many best parts this year. Whenever we had a class, you made it fun and interesting to everyone. All of your students found learning new things was so easy because of you. I really believe you have a great teaching skill. You should be very proud of the way that you help children learn. Thanks to you, I decide to become a teacher like you when I grow up. I was new to the school this year. I didn’t enjoy school much before. At my old school, I found learning was quite difficult. The last nine months have changed all of that. I’m now confident (自信的) and looking forward to the next school year. I have mixed feelings about school next year. I’m sad that you won’t be my teacher anymore. However, I’m happy that other children will get to share your knowledge (学问). I’m sure that they’ll thank you for your good work. Thank you once again for all of your help. ChatGPT is back in the headlines! Open AI, the company behind the popular chatbot, has now introduced a powerful new language model: GPT-4.
On March 14, GPT-4 showed the world how smarter it is than the previous GPT-3.5. One of its best new features is that it can understand pictures. For example, if you show a picture of a phone using the wrong charger (充电器), GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny.
But GPT-4’s developments don’t stop there. The new language model can code (用代码编写) classic games like Tetris (俄罗斯方块) in a matter of minutes, and produce the code and layout (布局) for a website based on a hand-made drawing. It can also change the tone (语气) and style based on what you ask it to do. GPT-4 is much easier for students to cheat (作弊) than the older GPT at passing tests, which may worry teachers. According to CNN, GPT-4 did really well on a law school test, with a score in the top 10 percent of test takers. But GPT-3.5 only got a score in the bottom 10 percent.
GPT-4 will also see greater use as a tool to power other apps and services. For example, the language learning app Duolingo plans to use GPT-4 in their upcoming Duolingo Max function. Users can learn languages by talking with AI. Another app, Be My Eyes, will have a digital assistant (数字助手) to help blind people better understand the world around them. The government of Iceland also plans to use GPT-4 to protect the Icelandic language.
There are still problems with the new language model, however. GPT-4 still struggles to get completely correct answers, especially with newer information after September 2021. GPT-4 also sometimes “hallucinates (产生幻觉)”, meaning that it will insist that wrong information is true.
1. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?A.GPT-3.5 cannot understand pictures. | B.GPT-4 can create funny pictures. |
C.GPT-4 can tell if a phone is recharging. | D.GPT-4 can show the result in a fun way. |
A.games like Tetris are easy to code |
B.anyone can code games using GPT-4 |
C.GPT-4 can code games like Tetris quickly |

A.It can change tones based on a user’s input. |
B.It may help students cheat on tests easily. |
C.Students will lose their competitiveness. |
D.It will take the place of teachers in the future. |
A.AI can help them make personalized study plans. |
B.Blind people can communicate through the app. |
C.They can practice languages by talking with AI. |
D.They can find many dying languages on the app. |
When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also learn how to use them. When you read a passage, it gives you a good example for writing. Here are some good reading tips.
Firstly, try to read at the right level (水平). Read something that you can understand. If you need to stop every three words to use a dictionary, it is not interesting.
Secondly, try to understand the new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, don’t use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read. Mark (作标记) them with a pencil. Then look them up in a dictionary when you finish reading, and write them in your own vocabulary book. Try to remember them.
Thirdly, try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after you get up or at lunchtime.
Lastly, read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine about a subject that you like. It will be easy enough for you to understand.
1. How many reading tips does the writer give us?A.Six. | B.Five. | C.Four. |
A.write them down at once | B.guess the meanings at first | C.stop reading |

The world record for pumpkin chucking was set in Utah in 2010. The distance for that world record was about 1. 69 kilometers.
