One day, Henry’s cow was ill. He was very worried. He telephoned Mr Smith who works in the animal hospital.

“What’s the problem?” Mr Smith asked Henry when he arrived.

“My cow is ill.” Henry said. “I don’t know what’s the matter with it. It’s lying down and won’t eat.”

Mr Smith looked over the cow. “It’s certainly ill,” he said, “and it needs to take some medicine.” He took out two pills (药丸), put them into Henry’s hand and said, “The pills should make her better.”

“How should I give them to it?” Henry asked.

Mr Smith gave him a tube (管子) and said, “Put this tube in its mouth, then put the pills in the tube and blow (吹). That’ll make it.”

The next day Mr Smith came to the farm again. Henry was sitting outside his house and looked more worried.

“How’s your cow?” Mr Smith asked.

“No change,” Henry said, “and I’m feeling very strange myself.”

“Oh?” Mr Smith said. “Why?”

“I did what you said,” Henry answered. “I put the tube in the cow’s mouth and then put two pills down it.”

“And?” Mr Smith asked.

“The cow blew first.” Henry said.

【推荐3】Where can we find some good poems? You can start with poems by the Indian poet Tagore. This year is the 160th anniversary of Tagore’s birth. His poems are about nature, human and love. He is good at writing poems for children. His poems are full of imagination. In his poems, kids are waves and moms are banks. Flowers are children in underground school. They sing and dance.

Tagore’s poems are easy to understand. They can bring people positive power. Sometimes we cry over missing things. But Tagore says: “If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the moon.” Sometimes we are sad and frown. But Tagore says: “Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who will fall in love with your smile.”

Here is a short poem Paper Boat by Tagore.

“Day by day I float my paper boats one by one down the running stream.

In big black letters I write my name on them and the name of the village where I live.

I hope that someone in some strange land will find them and know who I am.

I load my little boats with shiuli flowers from our garden, and hope that these blooms of the dawn will be carried safely to land in the night.

I launch my paper boats and look up into the sky and see the little clouds setting thee white bulging sails.

I know not what playmate of mine in the sky sends them down the air to race with my boats!

When night comes I bury my face in my arms and dream that my paper boats float on and on under the midnight stars.

The fairies of sleep are sailing in them, and the lading is their baskets full of dreams.”
