By using the “Culture and Tourism e-Village”, programme, which can be found on WeChat, visitors now can enjoy the sightseeing of 1,594 villages and 877 towns in East China’s Jiangsu Province on their phones.
The programme, developed by the Jiangsu Cultural Center, is made up of several parts, countryside tourism, e-business of cultural tourism and voluntary service.
For visitors, it gives introductions, pictures and travel guidance of many villages. It allows visitors to check villages by using VR (虚拟现实) technology, learn about local histories and attractions there, and book homestay hotels. For example, Qingdun Village of Hai’an City has used VR technology to present the whole village on the programme. Travelers who are interested in Qingdun can learn about it by simply clicking on the screen.
For farmers, it allows them to advertise their hometown, attend online training and take part in more cultural and tourism activities.
“I sell more grapes and strawberries by using the programme, ” said Zhang Feng, a villager from Baitu Town, Zhenjiang City. “I have faith (信心) in the quality (质量) of my products, but I had trouble selling them. Our town has been known to more people since it appeared on the programme and our products have drawn more attention. Many villagers have enjoyed a better life with Baitu Town becoming famous,” he said happily.
To attract more users, the programme also holds different kinds of online activities, including short video competitions, cultural products designs and photography competitions. Getting back to nature In China, 76 percent of those surveyed want to “travel to suburban(近郊的)areas” or even “move to the countryside” in the coming year. Staying more connected Pod travel, in which people choose to travel together as a family or a group of friends, will become a trend. The idea of a smart city was brought up by US company IBM in 2010. Generally, a smart city is a city that uses digital technologies such as the Internet to improve city planning, save money and resources, and make our life convenient. How smart can a city be? Here are great examples that we can learn from.
In 2009, Dubuque became the first smart city in the US. The city used smart water meters to take the place of traditional water meters. They can detect (探测) water waste and leakage (泄漏) and send data to let the house owner know. The same system is used for other city resources like electricity and natural gas. This way, people know how they use their resources and are glad to help reduce waste.
Santander in Spain also gives us a look in the future. If people point a phone toward a nearby bus stop, the phone immediately shows all bus lines that serve the stop as well as their arrival times. The government organized a research team and provided an App (应用程序) that collects data on almost everything: light, temperature, and the movements of cars and people. Opening the App near a supermarket provides immediate information on special offers.

The closest look showed Mars to be a dusty, cold world, covered by air too thin to breathe. A British spaceship and Europe’s Mars spaceship plan to land on Mars or enter orbit (轨道) around it. One of the NASA’s (美国宇航局) spaceships is expected to land on January 3, the other is going to land on the opposite side of Mars on January 24.
Since 1960, over twenty spaceships sent to Mars have failed. Most have been lost on flying up or landing because those are the most difficult times of any flights.
Scientists wanted to find out whether there was water in Mars. In October, a team of scientists reported that Mars had been a dry wasteland. But weeks later, a second team reported differently that they had found some marks showed clearly that they were made by the rivers. Such marks told us that Mars was a warmer place billions of years ago—just as life first appeared here on Earth. Scientists at once raise a question: if what they said is true, what happened on Mars? Then what about the earth?

Perhaps we will see a kind of little car in the streets in the future. Most of people will like this kind of small cars better than the big ones. The car is as small as a bike but it can carry two people in it. Everybody can drive it easily, just like riding a bike. Even children and old people can drive them to schools or parks.
If everyone drives such cars in the future, there will be less pollution in the air. There will be more space for all the cars in cities, and there will also be more space for people to walk in the streets. These little cars can go only 65 kilometers an hour, so driving will be safer. They will not be useful for a long trip.

3. Driving the kind of small cars can make the air dirtier.
4. The kind of small cars can make more space for other cars and people.

We dogs pant (喘气) to keep cool. Panting drives out hot air and brings in cooler air. It helps quickly evaporate moisture (蒸发水分) in our mouths to reduce our body temperature.
We pigs don’t have a lot of sweat glands (汗腺). But we have found another way to cool ourselves down. We enjoy rolling around in mud on hot summer days. Mud itself keeps us cooler than water on its own, as the muddy water evaporates more slowly.
We hippos like to roll around in mud to cool ourselves down, too. We have red fluid (液体). But it is not our sweat. The red fluid helps to keep our skin wet and protect our skin from the sun’s strong light.
We elephants have our own fans. We swing our large ears like fans to keep ourselves cool. |

“Add oil,” a popular Chinese phrase has been officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED 牛津英语词典).
“Add oil” is a direct English translation of the Chinese phrase “jiayou”, an exclamation used very often across China to express encouragement or support for someone else. The phrase, “jiayou” in Chinese, literally (字面上) means put petrol to an engine. Chinese often speak it loudly in games and competitions to encourage players.
It was Hugo Tseng, an English professor at Taiwan’s Soochow University, who first noticed the entry (条目). Tseng said excitedly that for more than 10 years he had been often checking for the phrase following each OED quarterly update (更新).
Long before, a number of other Chinese phrases have been included in the OED, such as Guanxi (personal connections that are good for business) and Lucky money (cash given in red envelopes).
In 2014, the American Urban Dictionary(城市词典) collected several Chinese internet buzzwords, such as “no zuo no die” (which translates into English as “if you don’t do stupid things, they won’t come back and bite you in the back”), “you can you up, no can no BB” (which means “if you can do it you should go on and do it, instead of criticizing others’ work”).
The process for adding new words to the Oxford English Dictionary is as follows.
• Dictionary compilers(编著者) notice a word’s widespread and repeated use by people.
• Degree of shared use and easy understanding will influence the consideration.
• Qualifying buzzwords from different languages are placed on a “watch list” for consideration.
• New additions first appear in the dictionary’s official web databank before hard copies are printed. The online version(版本) is renewed every three months. The next update is in December.
