Who doesn’t have a clingy (缠人的) friend? You know, that person who often calls, texts (发信息) and sends emails. He often needs your care or help.
Have you ever thought about turning off your phone and being alone? But you shouldn’t do that to a friend. Here is some good advice.
♦ Give Yourself Some Time If you really need some time for yourself, just explain to your clingy friend that you want some time of your own. He may understand and give you some space. |
♦ Suggest An Activity for Your Friend If you’re tired of different get-togethers, then you could ask your clingy friend to do something alone. If you both like sports, you could tell him to have a try at the new gym. If he likes your suggestion, but asks you to go along, just explain that you’ve already visited the gym. Mention that you enjoy the gym. If you’re lucky, he’ll try it and like it. |
♦ Introduce Your Clingy Friend to Others It may be difficult for your clingy friend to meet new people. If so, introduce him to others with the same interests. He may make some new friends. |
♦ Don’t Be Rude There’s no reason for you to rudely tell your clingy friend that he’s awful. |

Children do not have much experience or knowledge. However, they are natural dreamers. We should not laugh at them for being naive(幼稚的). Today, the students’ life is very stressful (紧张的). They are under pressure every day. They need a break from it. Parents should ask children to do something else. Do not let them relax in front of the TV. A hobby is the perfect answer. There are many different kinds of hobbies. Chess is a good example. It is a very enjoyable game and it also helps children develop their thinking skills. Collecting something is also a good hobby for children. A child can collect almost anything: key rings, stamps, postcards, old coins, etc. Many of these collecting can be both interesting and fun. They teach children a lot. Besides, gardening (园艺) is a useful hobby because it is a physical activity and it also teaches children about nature.
A hobby can be a useful learning tool. Children may become experts in something if they really love their hobbies. Children will also learn to become more organized and make places. Hobbies will also teach children a lot about responsibility (责任).

Let’s imagine you are taking a walk along the road and you happen to see one or two waste bottles lying on the grass beside the road. What would you do?
You may have different choices. Firstly, you can leave the bottles there as they are. It was not you who threw them away. Why should you do something about it? This is quite OK. Secondly, you can pick them up and throw them into a dustbin. By doing this, you have walked a step further to help make our home clean. This action is a better choice. Thirdly, you might want to pick them up and give them to someone who collects waste for a living. If this is your choice, you have walked even further. You’re not only thinking about doing something for the environment, you’re also developing yourself to be a person who would think of others and help them.
As for young kids, they may always have such a question: “When do I grow up?”Yes! When does a child grow up? And how can a kid know he or she has grown up? These are interesting questions. As for us, fifteen-year-old, who are finishing middle school, we’re no longer younger children. We should know whether or not we have grown up. When we start to have a sense of offering a helping hand for a cleaner city and greener world, and when we have a loving heart to think more of others than of ourselves and are ready to help them, we can say that we have grown up.
Remember: If we help others, others will help us. If we do our best for nature, nature will offer its best to us in return!
1. What example does the writer use to support the main idea?2. How many choices are there in Paragraph 2?
3. Who can you give the bottles to in the third choice?
4. What does the writer think of the questions about growing up?
5. What will nature do if we do our best for nature?

John comes from England. When he comes to China, his friends tell him something about the traffic rules in China. People drive on the left in England, but in China, people should drive on the right. Before you cross a street, you must look both ways—look left, look right and look left again. Always remember the traffic moves on the right in China, or some cars and buses may hurt you.
In the morning and the evening, when people go to work and come back from work, the streets are very busy. So it is the most dangerous time. When you want to go across the road, you must wait for the green “walk” side.
In China, you can always ask the policeman for help when you lose your way.

Cambridge Dictionary’s word of the year for 2021 has been revealed as “perseverance(毅力)”. The word was inspired by NASA’s mission to Mars, as data(数据) showed that users across the globe searched for the word online more than 243, 000 times throughout the year. The word is “almost always a positive word that expresses our admiration for people who keep going in difficult situations”, wrote the editors. Cars make our lives more convenient, but they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel(化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution. To improve the environment, many countries are developing EVs(电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world’s largest EV market.
In 2020, over 40% of the 2,600,000 EVs in the world were sold in China, more than twice as many as the number sold in the United States. “Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas is more expensive than charging(充电) an electric car.” said Hans, who bought an electric car this year. However, there are still some problems. For example, it can be hard to find charging piles and the cars can’t go far before needing to be recharged.
Some of these problems are being solved. In 2020, China had over 370,000 charging piles. Now China has the world’s largest EV charging network, with more than 4,300,000 charging piles in total. Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop increase in carbon dioxide emissions(二氧化碳排放量) by 2035. “As China goes, so will the world’s car industry.” The Wall Street Journal said.
