The next morning they rented a car in the city and began their trip. A few hours later the sun was shining in the sky and there were no shade trees beside the road. It was so hot that they could hardly (几乎不) go on driving. They had to stop to look around. Mike found a river was about half a kilometer away from them. They were both very happy and drove the car quickly. Soon they got to the river. Before they jumped into the river, Dick saw a boy playing under a big tree. He asked the boy, “Are there any sharks (鲨鱼) in the river? ” “No,” answered the boy, “There aren’t any.”

So they began to swim in the river. After a while, Dick felt something hit (敲打) against his leg. He told Mike about it. They were very afraid and stopped swimming. Dick asked the boy loudly, “Is it true that there are not any sharks in the river? ” “Yes, Sir. There are a lot of crocodiles (鳄鱼) in the water. The sharks all swam away.”

Have you ever been to Thailand? It is a country in Southeast Asia. I’ve been in Thailand for a few days with my parents. We are here for a holiday.

Now we are staying in Bangkok (曼谷).     1     And it is a very interesting place to visit. Yesterday we visited some places of interest in the city. They are great!     2     Bangkok is a wonderful place to shop for jewelry (珠宝) and clothes. My mother bought a nice necklace (项链).     3    

Thailand is called “Land of Smiles”.     4     And it’s true! When we eat in the restaurants in Bangkok, the waiters are really nice and they are always smiling. Thai food is delicious, but it is sometimes a little spicy for me. You can also get Chinese food here.     5     Chinese food is very good, and it isn’t as spicy as Thai food. Our American food can also be found in Bangkok, however, I don’t eat it. You know, I’d like to try new things when I travel.

The weather has been very hot. Yesterday it rained and got a little cooler. But today it’s hot again.

Dealing with disappointment

Disappointment is a real emotion. Take a certain amount of time to feel hurt, sad or upset. Find a parent, friend or mentor and share your disappointment with them. Or write your thoughts and feelings of frustration down on paper.

Look at the Big Picture

A disappointment can seem huge at first, but after you’ve expressed your hurt, look at the big picture. How much will this disappointment really affect you tomorrow, next week or next year?

Look for positive (积极的) activities that will help you get over your disappointment. Perhaps you may enjoy writing in your journal, playing games or running in the park. Do one or more of those things. This will help you overcome the disappointment. Also, write down everything that you’re grateful for. This will help you see the positive things rather than the negative things.

Moving ahead

You’ve been disappointed. That’s in the past. It’s time to move forward, so don’t think about your disappointment. Remember not all disappointments are bad. In fact, you may eventually realize what you wanted is not what you really needed. You may discover you are better off because things didn’t work out as you’d planned. There may be a silver lining in your disappointment. Use the disappointment to reexamine your priorities. Then you may want to make major or minor changes in your life and focus on new goals. That can help you work through your disappointment. Remember, the only true failure is to give up.

【推荐2】Anger is a kind of feeling. Many things can make you angry: your teacher gives you too much homework; a friend borrow your favourite toy and then breaks(弄坏) it.

Often your body will tell you when you are angry. For example, your face turns red, and you may want to break something. But sore times you hide your anger. For example, you may hide it in your heart. And then you may get a headache or your stomach may hurt.

It’s not good to hide your anger. Anger must go out in the right way, and can’t hurt others.

When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. It’s helpful(有帮助的) to talk about your anger with a parent or a teacher. When you talk, those bad feelings can start to go away.

Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry: talk to a good friend; count(数) from 1 to 100; give someone a smile; go for a swim; think about good things.

【推荐3】When can you get a phone? The answer is when your parents think you need one. Of course, many kids seem to get a phone at around age 12 or 13 or at an even younger age because their parents think it is helpful.A phone can let the children soon contact(联系)their parents if something goes wrong or they need help. Likewise, it can also make parents quickly contact their kids so that they can check on them and make sure they’re OK.

If you get a phone, work out some rules with your parents. Learn to be in control of your phone. It will cost you much if you send too many messages or talk too long. Also work out some other things.When can you use your phone? When must you turn off the phone?

If you get a phone, you’ll also have to make sure you can take care of this new “friend”. Put it in the same place so that it doesn’t get lost. And don’t use it in the bathroom, because it is easy for you to drop your phone into the toilet(厕所).
