However, the COVID-19 pandemic(大流行) has challenged the deep-rooted Chinese dining tradition of sharing dishes together, which makes the government, restaurants and citizens rethink about eating customs.
Standards on dining came out on March 18. Here are the main points.
Individual diners’ food should be served to customers in separate tableware.
Each shared dish should be served with a separate pair of serving chopsticks(公筷).
Each dinner should have two pairs of differently colored chopsticks. One is to get food from shared dishes to place into individual bowls, and the other is for eating from individual bowls.
The above new standards aim to protect the public health in a scientific and practical way. Over 200 companies have followed the guidelines. In order to encourage customers to follow the standards, some restaurants offer parking coupons(优惠券) to those who use serving chopsticks.
According to a survey about separate dining, nearly 89% of 100,000 interviewees believe it’s more hygienic(卫生的) because it reduces the risk of infection via saliva(唾液传染).
For Chinese, it is not easy to change their dining behavior, because they think the grouped dining system is a tradition. When they share the food, they are building up a close relationship among diners. Besides, it is difficult to divide Chinese dishes into separate parts.
Eating separately is a break from tradition, but it is helpful to prevent diseases and improve health. People can still sit at the same table, sharing the same food and the same culture in a new way.

As you may expect, life in space is much different from life on earth. So of course people need some time to get used to it. How do they live, work and play up there?
Space food keeps getting more like the food we eat at home on the earth. In the past, astronauts could eat only freeze-dried food. But now the space station has water, microwave(微波炉) ovens and fridges. So astronauts can eat more usual kinds of food, like fruit, vegetables and ice cream!
All people in the ISS(国际空间站) have their own rooms. There’s no gravity(重力), so they have to attach(依附于) themselves to their beds, or they’ll float(漂浮) away! That may seem like a hard way to sleep, but astronauts say that sleeping in space is actually not too bad.
This is more important in space than on Earth. There’s not much gravity in space. Astronauts don’t stand up, sit down or walk in space, so their muscles don’t have to work much. They exercise on bikes and other machines for about two hours every day while they’re in space. In this way, they can still keep strong and healthy when they get back home.
Easy things like brushing your teeth can be hard in space with low gravity. Water doesn’t flow out of a tap. It floats in a bubble(水泡)! Astronauts use a special hose(软管) to take showers. And when they’ve finished, they use a vacuum(真空的) hose to suck the dirty water off of their bodies. How do you go to the toilet in space? They use a special “air toilet”. It uses air, not water, to take everything away.
What do astronauts do when they aren’t working? They read books, play cards, listen to music or send e-mail to their friends and family. Sometimes they just sit and look out of the window. Doesn’t it sound like much fun? But what if you could see planet Earth out of your window, with a sunset or sunrise every 45 minutes?
1. Which of the following can be the title of this passage?A.Life in Space. | B.Space Food. | C.Showers in Space. | D.A Visit to Space. |
A.keep themselves warm | B.prevent themselves from floating away |
C.have a good sleep | D.feel better |
A.they have nothing to do in space | B.they are told to do so |
C.they do so to keep healthy | D.they do so to prevent them from sleeping |

For years, it has been a difficult question for scientists. But a US research group may have finally answered it—the secret lies in a protein(蛋白质) called FKF1. This helps plants to know when the days become long and when they get short. Then they can tell the seasons(季节) are changing.
Researchers found the FKF1 protein when they were studying a plant called Arabidopsis. It is sensitive(敏感的) to sunlight, and can be made active by sunlight.
Plants produce this protein every day in the late afternoon all year. If there is no light at this time, for example, in winter when the sun goes down early, the protein won’t be active. But when spring comes and the days get longer, the FKF1 protein can be made active by day light and the plants “know” it is time to flower. “If there is light in the late afternoon, plants will know that the days are getting longer and that it is the best time for flowers to come out,” explained Takato Imaizumi, leader of study. But when conditions are poor for growing, such as during autumn or winter when the weather is cold and days are short, plants won’ t flower.
Although researchers have only studied how the FKF1 protein works in the Arabidopsis, they believe that it is the same with many other plants, including crops such as rice and wheat.
“If we can control when flowers come out, we might be able to increase crop production,” Imaizumi said.
1. Scientists found the FKF1 protein when they were________ .A.answering a question |
B.controlling the colors of flowers |
C.planting flowers in the garden |
D.studying a plant called Arabidopsis |

Sing a Song
Before class begins, sing a song in English to yourself. Make sure to use a song that you understand and know very well. This short and fun exercise will help your brain focus(集中) on the English language in a relaxing way. It’s important to be relaxed when you study English! Singing a song helps activate(激活) the creative side of your brain which can help you come up with more examples.
Study English Every Day
It’s important to study English every day. However, not too long! Study for thirty minutes every day instead of two hours once a week. Short, everyday practice is much better for learning than long but irregular(不规则的) practice. This habit of studying English every day will help keep English in your brain alive.
Study English With Friends
There is nothing like having a few friends to study English together. You can do the exercises together, have conversations together (in English) and help each other with exercises you may not understand.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)、误(F)。
1. There is a good way to study English that is right for every student.
2. Singing a song in English can help you to be relaxed and creative.
3. Study English every day! The longer, the better.

Some people may say “I’ll try”, which allows(允许)them to run away from an uncomfortable situation, but leaves the other one in an uncertain situation. Worse still, some might say “yes”, which leads to a stressful life. So, learning to say “no” in a proper(合适的)way will allow you to take control of your life.
When you find it difficult to refuse a friend, learn how to say “no”, and the first thing to remember is that saying “no” to somebody is nothing to feel guilty about, so you don’t need to feel sorry. However the way of saying “no” is very important. Saying “no” properly will leave you free of regret and never make the other part feel upset. For example, if you say not a chance, he could feel hurt. However, if you say “I’d really love to help you, but I just can’t right now,” he will certainly understand your situation.
It may be helpful to give an explanation as long as it is honest. For example, instead of saying “No, I can’t lend you any money right now”, you can explain it like “I can’t lend you any money right now because I have just paid my credit card bills(信用卡账单). ” If you do want to help out but can not at the moment, offer to help out in another way or another time. This way you can control your schedule and still be able to help.
Saying “no” all the time could be regarded selfish, while saying “yes” all the time could make your life out of control. Balance(平衡)is the key. Choosing a proper way or situation to say “no” may make you happier.
1. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing paragraph one?A.To compare different answers. |

Well, Google's new robot, Atlas, can not only do these things, but it can also stand up if it falls down. Although the robot may be slow and clumsy, it was created mainly to work in dangerous places for humans.
Now, robots are much smarter than you might imagine. On March 9 this year, AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能) program made by Google's DeepMind, challenged top professional Go player Lee Sedol from South Korea. And AlphaGo beat Lee at last.
AI is when computers or computer software is able to have intelligent behavior, such as thinking or acting like a human. In our daily lives, we already use AI in many ways, like Apple's Siri and search engines like Baidu and Google.
Some people may worry whether computers are now smart enough to beat us at everything. But experts say that is not the case. Real life problems can be more difficult than the Go game. For example, humans can watch a person throw down a cup of coffee and know that the result will be a mess on the floor. A computer program would have to know the size of the cup, the height of the cup from the floor and many other things to find out the result. But we never know what will happen in the future.

A lot of movies have tried to describe the afterlife and our memories of family members who have died. But few have done as well as Coco, Disney Pixar’s latest masterpiece animation(动画),which hit the big screen on Nov.24, 2017.
One thing’s for certain-you’re going to call your grandparents after seeing Coco, the movie critic written by Katie Walsh.
Inspired by the Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos—Day of the Dead(墨西哥亡灵节),the movie created a young boy, Miguel, who wants his family to understand his love of music.
