【推荐1】When we talk about reading, we probably think of eyes, because we do the reading by eyes. But we can do some reading by ears, too. And with the development of smartphones, it’s getting easier and easier to do some reading by ears—by listening to news, novels and so on. This is audio reading. We can do audio reading in many places.

Many people like doing audio reading in bed, before going to sleep. They like to just lie in bed in the dark before they fall asleep. This would be a great time to do some audio reading. If you read a paper book, the lights have to be turned on and you have to turn the pages with your hand.

Some other people would like to do audio reading in the kitchen. For some people, it’s boring to cook. So they enjoy their time by listening to news or stories. For some others, it’s interesting to cook by listening to instructions (操作指南) by famous cooks.

Audio reading is a favorite while a person is exercising. It allows the mind to be free while the legs, body and arms are kept busy. But be careful. Don’t make yourself and others in danger. Let’s take driving for example. If you pay much attention to listening, you can’t be a good driver.

Finally, audio reading is helpful for blind (瞎的) people. It’s difficult for them to do reading in the past. But now, they can do some audio reading easily.

【推荐1】Joe Sanders was afraid to talk to his classmates because of the bullies (欺辱) at school. He was always lonely and scared.     1     He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas to stop bullying.

After that, Joe continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Robin, he made a website called www.bullyingcanada. ca.     2     When people are unhappy, they can talk on the phone or online to Joe and his team.     3     He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.

Joe’s most important message is: “when bullies are unkind to you, it isn’t your fault. There’s nothing wrong with you.     4     And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people.” One of Joe’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools.     5     More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Joe won’t stop until there’s a Blue Day in every school in Canada.

The last Monday in March is an important day in China. It is a day for school safety education. At school, the big accidents are mainly stampedes (踩踏), earthquakes (地震) and fires.

A stampede always happens in crowded places. When students around yon begin to push, stand there and try to hold onto something. If you fall down in the crowd, put your hands around your head. Move to one side, and bend (弯曲) your body and legs.

Earthquakes happen all over the world. When you feel everything is moving, quickly get under a desk and hold on. If you are outdoors, find a place away from buildings, trees, and power lines (电线). In Japan, many school take earthquake drills once a mouth. They help students stay calm in a real earthquake.

When there’s a fire, leave the classroom quickly. It’s better to put something wet over your mouth and nose. This way, you won’t breathe in smoke. When there’s a fire, people can’t jump out of the window from higher than two stories (楼层). They may hurt themselves. In the US, most school buildings have fire escapes (防火梯). They are usually made of steel and lie outside the building. People can get to the fire escape through a special door or a window.
