根据短文内容,在A,B,C,D四个选项中,选择一个正确答案。

Nowadays, a lot of mothers in China are afraid that their children will fall behind their classmates, so they are becoming “tiger mothers”. They believe that if their children work hard, they will have a bright future. Is it true? Lulu and her sister Sophia may have something to say.

Lulu and Sophia have a “tiger mother”. She pushed the two daughters a lot when they were young. For example, they were not allowed to get grades lower than A’s. They had to practice the piano or violin for several hours a day. There were no games or TV.

This tiger mother, Amy, is a Chinese-American professor at Yale Law School in the USA. Several years ago, she wrote a book named Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother and shared her strict parenting style (育儿方式) in it.

Many people don’t like Amy’s style of parenting. They once worried about her daughters would not be happy. However, the two girls have grown up and they are thankful to their mother. Sophia has just graduated from Yale University. She is hard-working, friendly and helpful. Not long ago, she shared some useful studying tips online. Lulu is also a warm, smart and popular girl in her friends’ eyes. She said their tiger mother believed that a child could succeed by being pushed to go all out.

Still, not everyone agrees with the tiger mother’s parenting style. In fact, there isn’t a parenting style that fits everyone. What’s the best style for you? Maybe you should work it out together with your parents.

【推荐1】A little stream (小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert (沙漠). “I went through so many difficulties. I should have no problem crossing the desert,” she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing (消失) into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean(海洋),” she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said: “If a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered: “That’s because a breeze can fly, but I cannot.”
“That’s because you can’t give up(放弃) what you are. Let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze, it can take you across,” said the desert. “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸汽) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form (形成) a river again,” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature (本性) never changes.”
Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. It carried her to the next period of her life.

【推荐2】Several days ago, one of my students came into my office, looking down. He thought he had too much stress — he has homework to do every day, he has too many after-school classes every weekend, he doesn’t like his history teacher, his younger sister is crying all the time when he needs a quiet environment to study, his parents always compare him with his classmates, ...

The problems are commonly seen on most of the Chinese students. I comforted my student with one sentence: Don’t you know you were much stronger than you thought?

Why did I say so? Because everyone has strength. What is strength? It is not always about physical strength. Rather, it is about will, training and the ability to get things done. I know some students who are clever, but they get very little done in their studies. And I know others find work extremely challenging, but are able to move mountains through hard work. They have inner strength. More interesting is that those hard-workers often don’t even notice the stress. When they are asked “How do you make it?”, the answers usually comes back: “I just work harder than the others.”

Some losers often have self-imposed(自己强加的) boundaries(边界) — I can’t do that(Why?); that is too much for me(How do you know?); I can’t put in that much effort(What would happen if you did?). All these are limits(局限).

Then, how can they get stronger? By pushing themselves until the boundaries disappear. By pushing themselves until they get better.

1. What can we know from the student’s words?
A.He was looking for something.
B.He was worried and unhappy.
C.His parents didn’t love him.
2. Most Chinese students have problems with the following aspects(方面)EXCEPT _______.
A.schoolworkB.social relationshipC.teachers’ suggestions
3. Why do some clever students achieve little?
A.Because they are not willing to spend time working hard.
B.Because the work is too challenging.
C.Because they know how much the stress is.
4. If your friend complains(抱怨) “I’m not smart enough to solve that,” what the writer may say to him?
A.Let it go.
B.Believe in yourself.
C.Are you really sure about that if you haven’t tried hard?
5. What can we infer(推断) from the passage?
A.Hard-workers don’t have any stress.
B.People can find their inner strength through hard work.
C.By pushing themselves, people can get whatever they want.

【推荐3】Knowing about yourself means not only that you find out what you’re good at and what you like, it also means discovering what you’re not good at and what you don’t like. Both help you to see your aim(目标)in life.
Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed a very difficult physics course, they have in fact learned a lot about themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical scientists. .If he or she draws something out of the failing. They may then decide on their aim and choose the kind of work they would be fit for and they would like to do.
It is impossible to decide whether or not you like something until you have tried it. If you decide that you would like to play the piano, you need to take more than one lesson before you can know whether you are really interested in it or you are able to do well.
It is not enough to want to be a great pianist. You also have to like the hard practice and long training before you become one. If you would enjoy being a great pianist but hate the work, forget it.
It’s a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still young. And then you will be able to find out what your true interests are.
