Nowadays, a lot of mothers in China are afraid that their children will fall behind their classmates, so they are becoming “tiger mothers”. They believe that if their children work hard, they will have a bright future. Is it true? Lulu and her sister Sophia may have something to say.
Lulu and Sophia have a “tiger mother”. She pushed the two daughters a lot when they were young. For example, they were not allowed to get grades lower than A’s. They had to practice the piano or violin for several hours a day. There were no games or TV.
This tiger mother, Amy, is a Chinese-American professor at Yale Law School in the USA. Several years ago, she wrote a book named Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother and shared her strict parenting style (育儿方式) in it.
Many people don’t like Amy’s style of parenting. They once worried about her daughters would not be happy. However, the two girls have grown up and they are thankful to their mother. Sophia has just graduated from Yale University. She is hard-working, friendly and helpful. Not long ago, she shared some useful studying tips online. Lulu is also a warm, smart and popular girl in her friends’ eyes. She said their tiger mother believed that a child could succeed by being pushed to go all out.
Still, not everyone agrees with the tiger mother’s parenting style. In fact, there isn’t a parenting style that fits everyone. What’s the best style for you? Maybe you should work it out together with your parents.

“That’s because you can’t give up(放弃) what you are. Let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze, it can take you across,” said the desert. “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸汽) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form (形成) a river again,” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature (本性) never changes.”
Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. It carried her to the next period of her life.

He thought he had too much stress — he has homework to do every day, he has too many after-school classes every weekend, he doesn’t like his history teacher, his younger sister is crying all the time when he needs a quiet environment to study, his parents always compare him with his classmates, ...
The problems are commonly seen on most of the Chinese students. I comforted my student with one sentence: Don’t you know you were much stronger than you thought?
Why did I say so? Because everyone has strength. What is strength? It is not always about physical strength. Rather, it is about will, training and the ability to get things done. I know some students who are clever, but they get very little done in their studies. And I know others find work extremely challenging, but are able to move mountains through hard work. They have inner strength. More interesting is that those hard-workers often don’t even notice the stress. When they are asked “How do you make it?”, the answers usually comes back: “I just work harder than the others.”
Some losers often have self-imposed(自己强加的) boundaries(边界) — I can’t do that(Why?); that is too much for me(How do you know?); I can’t put in that much effort(What would happen if you did?). All these are limits(局限).
Then, how can they get stronger? By pushing themselves until the boundaries disappear. By pushing themselves until they get better.
1. What can we know from the student’s words?A.He was looking for something. |
B.He was worried and unhappy. |
C.His parents didn’t love him. |

A.Because they are not willing to spend time working hard. |
B.Because the work is too challenging. |
C.Because they know how much the stress is. |
A.Let it go. |
B.Believe in yourself. |
C.Are you really sure about that if you haven’t tried hard? |
A.Hard-workers don’t have any stress. |
B.People can find their inner strength through hard work. |
C.By pushing themselves, people can get whatever they want. |
Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed a very difficult physics course, they have in fact learned a lot about themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical scientists. .If he or she draws something out of the failing. They may then decide on their aim and choose the kind of work they would be fit for and they would like to do.
It is impossible to decide whether or not you like something until you have tried it. If you decide that you would like to play the piano, you need to take more than one lesson before you can know whether you are really interested in it or you are able to do well.
It is not enough to want to be a great pianist. You also have to like the hard practice and long training before you become one. If you would enjoy being a great pianist but hate the work, forget it.
It’s a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still young. And then you will be able to find out what your true interests are.
1. If you say you really know yourself,________.
A.you know what you are good at |
B.you have got the whole picture of yourself |
C.you keep in mind your aim in life |
D.you have less you don’t like than what you like |
A.failure is a better mirror |

A.if you have aim in life and get the job you wish to have |
B.if you lead a happier life |
C.if your decision is right |
D.if you learn something from it |
A.if you don’t like music,don’t practice the piano |
B.it takes more than one lesson to learn to play the piano |
C.you can decide only after you have tried |
D.you can become a great pianist only after hard and long training |
A.You have enough time before you come to a wise decision. |
B.The more experiences you have, the better decision you will make. |
C.Test ideas,compare and then decide. |
D.People always make hasty(匆匆的)decisions. |

If you have lots of questions about life in space, you should checkout the latest lecture from space given by three Chinese astronauts(宇航员)—Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu were working on China’s Tiangong space station now. They gave a science lecture 400 kilometers above Earth on Dec 9. Millions of students watched it and learned many amazing science facts. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Use it or lose it
The human body grows with the pull of Earth’s gravity(重力). But in space, our bones(骨头)and muscles(肌肉)don’t need to support our body’s weight. This will cause bone and muscle loss. NASA says that astronauts can lose up to 20 percent of their muscles after just a couple of weeks. That is dangerous for astronauts because they will be too weak to work.
Astronauts have different ways to prevent this. During the lecture, Zhai introduced a special uniform Ye was wearing. It’s called a “penguin suit”. There are many elastic bands(弹力带)inside the suit. Wearing it, astronauts use their muscles to stretch the bands. This keeps their muscles strong.
Wang also showed students how she walked on a kind of running machine and rode a bicycle. Astronauts exercise with these tools every day to prevent muscle loss.
Space water is different
During another experiment, Wang made a water film. Then she added more water drops onto the film to make it a water ball. This can never happen on Earth. Why?
We need to first understand the surface(表面)tension of water. Surface tension is like a “skin”of water. The “skin” is there because water molecules(分子)are drawn to each other. One example on Earth is that some bugs(小虫子)can “walk on water “. Most of the time, gravity is too strong and it breaks the “skin”. But with zero gravity in space, the “skin”stays strong and the water ball will not break.
Water in space acts differently from water on earth in other ways. For example, water will not go down if you try to pour it into a cup. That’s why astronauts usually drink water through straws(吸管)in sealed bags. If astronauts cry, the tears will stay on their eyeballs(眼球)instead of falling down.

Control your spare time, and you control your life!” In order to learn about how students spend their spare time after school, NO.12 Junior High School did a survey among 1,000 students and here is the result.
After getting the result, the school teachers and some parents get much more worries about the teenagers’ study, for most students waste their spare time on computer games. Meanwhile there is only about 130 students choosing to kill time by reading. That really shocked the school principal. He is always thinking about helping the students develop reading habits, so he made a decision to put “reading” into their daily schedule. As for playing sports, about 20% students prefer to exercise outside rather than stay at home or go to after-school classes. According to the survey, the ones who go to after-school classes actually don’t top the list. Instead, those who enjoy reading and doing sports normally get much better grades. The percentage of helping with housework reminded the school to call on the parents not to do too much for their kids. Taking responsibility for the family is a great way to shape their character.

While in school, sometimes you are tired of your Lessons, but have you ever noticed the happy smile on your teacher’s face when you did a good job?
One day it is fine. Just before you want to go out, it suddenly starts to rain Maybe you would feel very sad and start complaining about the weather. But dear friends, why don’t you sit down and listen to the free concert that the nature offers you? And with the timely rain, crops in the fields will grow better and better and farmers will have a good harvest (丰收).
Although everyone wants to succeed in what he tries to do, sometimes failure can’t be avoided. I think failure is not terrible, and the terrible thing is that we’re afraid of it and give up hope. When we face failure, we must be confident in ourselves, draw a useful lesson from it and try our best to finish what we have decided to do.
