When you meet with an emergency(突发事件), what should you do? You should call the police at once. But before you call the police, First, you need to look around and watch the scene(现场) of the emergency carefully. Then, call 110 or any other number your country uses to ask for help. Remember to watch carefully so that you can offer more useful information about the emergency. Then calm down and pick up the phone. Be ready to give the dispatcher the important information.
Who? The dispatcher will ask you about your name and phone number. Sometimes he/she needs to call you again and try to get more useful information from you. What? In all, tell him or her all the things you know to make them know how to find you quickly. |

Join a club or a group, talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier, or join some activities.
Many people are nervous when talking to new people. After all meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it’s human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown.
Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts (怀疑)about ourselves. We imagine other people are judging us, finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don’t forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept yourself as you are and try to put the other people at ease. You’ll both feel more comfortable.
Try to act self-confidence (自信)even if you don’t feel that way when you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom. Walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile.
If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t wait for the other person to start a conversation.
Just meeting someone new doesn’t mean that you’ll make friends with that person — friendships are based on mutual(相互的)liking and “give and take”. They take time and effort to develop. And there are things that keep a new friendship from growing.

Do you want to try a winter sport? TEENS interviewed snowboarding coach Nie Ying, 35, from Shenyang, Liaoning. He answered questions you may have about starting a nice and snow sport.
Q: When is best to start learning a winter sport?
A: The earlier, the better. The youngest kid that I taught snowboarding was just 3 years old. Kids who learn ice hockey usually start to step on the ice at around 4.
Starting early has advantages. “A new-born calf is not afraid of a tiger.” Little kids are not afraid of falling down. As they are short, even if they fall down, it doesn’t hurt too much.
Still, kids have to understand what the coaches say. It means they are good at understanding information. If parents accompany (陪伴) them, they will improve more quickly.
Q: Skiing or snowboarding—which suits me?
A: In general, skiing is easier to pick up than snowboarding. If you’re not sporty, you can start with skiing. This way, you won’t give up easily. However, skiing still requires you to have strong physical strength, especially in your legs. If you have a good sense of balance, explosiveness (爆发力) and flexibility (灵活性), you can try snowboarding. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is your passion and interest.
Q: Is it expensive to learn a winter sport?
A: The barrier (门槛) to winter sports has been lowered thanks to the policy to boost winter sports. For beginners, you can rent equipment. If you want to buy it, the price is going down as Chinese brands offer more affordable and high-quality items.
Q: Is it dangerous to play winter sports?
A: Well take skiing as an example. It’s an extreme (极限的) sport. It’s dangerous. But as long as you wear protective gear (护具) and follow coaches’ guidance (指导), the risk is not that high. Many people think that they can just learn skiing on their own. But that’s wrong. You need a coach at the beginning. Coaches not only teach how to ski but also the safety rules and how to use facilities (设施) like ski lifts (缆车) .

Working in groups of four or five, the little chefs take their responsibilities very seriously. Soon, they are showing off their own delicious dishes.
Since last September, the school has set up after-school classes for students, with cooking classes being the most popular, said Xinhua. It comes after the “double reduction” policy (政策). The policy aims to ease the burdens (减轻负担) of too much homework and off-campus tutoring (课外辅导) for primary and junior high school students.
The policy lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and difficulty of homework assignments (家庭作业), as well as improving the quality (质量) of education and after-school services. For example, homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish. It allows students more free time to pursue (追求) their hobbies and interests. Also, off-campus tutoring has been further regulated (管理) to reduce the burden on students.
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.” According to Shen, teachers have taught at a much slower pace (速度), which gives students enough time to process new information.
In December, the Ministry of Education reported on the progress made through the policy so far. Almost all primary and middle schools now offer two-hour after-school services on weekdays. More than 90 percent of students can finish their written homework in the set time. About 92.7 percent of schools have opened after-school arts and sports classes. More than 80 percent of academic tutoring institutions (学科类校外培训机构) have closed down or turned to other fields of business.
“With homework done at school, my child and I can read books and listen to music together in the evening, or we can go out to play badminton or skip rope,” said Lu Di, the parent of a fifth-grader in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang.
