Never give up on yourself
Steven lost an arm after a traffic accident years ago. On that day, he was hit by a car. The bones in his left arm were smashed to pieces. “I can’t feel my hand!” Steven shouted when he woke up in the hospital. It was the only thing he could think of to say, although it did him no good at all. It was a very difficult time for him.
But life went on. Steven spent the next two years in the hospital. At first, he couldn’t even tie his shoes, open a bottle of water or cut his fingernails (手指甲) by himself. Later on, with the support of his wife, he realized that he had no choice but to face life head-on.
He started to take part in all kinds of activities. He even decided to learn to play the violin. Steven knew nothing about playing the violin and had no one to ask for help until he met Lam, an amateur (业余的) violinist.
Steven became Lam’s first student. He practiced playing the violin with Lam’s help. Sometimes he even played in public. When he played on the street, what people offered was not sympathy (同情), but admiration.
