Another Disney princess movie hit theaters on March 5. But this time the princess doesn’t wait for the prince to save her—she is ready to save the world herself. Raya and the Last Dragon, the film shows Southeast Asian culture and Disney’s first Southeast Asian heroine (女主角).
The story takes place in a world called Kumandra. Five hundred years ago, the world’s dragons died to save humans. But the world breaks up into five states that fight against each other. Raya, the princess of one of the states, needs to find the last dragon to save the world. On her journey, Raya invites other people to join her and learns to trust others and be more responsible.
Once upon a time, being a Disney princess meant being a damsel in distress (落难少女) in a European fairy tale, but this movie is different, according to the BBC. Raya has no boyfriend, but is a great fighter who is very brave and independent, according to the movie’s writer Adele Lim.
Besides Raya, most of the main characters in the movie, including the dragon Sisu, are female. They stand out and depend on(依靠) no one else instead of acting as supporting roles for males. Namaari, once a friend to Raya, is now a dangerous enemy. She is a strong, brave and loyal fighter, just like Raya.
The movie shows “a complicated dynamic (复杂互动) that’s still rare in the Disney universe, particularly between women,” the Los Angeles Times said.

FISH First-time owners should consider getting cold-water fish as no tank heater is required. They should research what kinds of fish get along in the same tank, and know that some goldfish can live up to 20 years. |
RABBITS Though rabbits may seem like a lovely choice, they can live up to ten years and require much care similar to that of a dog or cat. They have their special diet needs, and often don’t behave well around small children. |
GUINEA PIGS These small animals are suitable for starter pets. Their cages must be cleaned daily, and they require toys to keep their ever growing teeth in check. Once they’re used to the new way of life, guinea pigs need daily exercise in a small room without holes for escape. |
BIRDS Birds require feeding at the same time each day. Cages should be cleaned daily and disinfected weekly. Birds clean themselves by bathing in dishes of water and grow in cages big enough to spread their wings and fly a short time. |

To show their support, Japanese people have written lines from ancient Chinese and Japanese poems on many of the boxes. They are touching and inspiring. Let’s enjoy some of them.
·Lands apart, sky shared.
The line comes from Buddhist Hymn(佛诗)by Princess Nagaya of Japan. There is a story behind this hymn that shows the historical cultural exchanges between China and Japan. At the time, Princess Nagaya wrote the hymn and sent it to China, inviting Chinese Buddhist monks to visit Japan. Inspired by the hymn, Jianzhen, a famous monk of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), started his sailing to Japan soon after.
·Fear not the want of armor, for mine is also yours to wear.
This line is from a battle song of the Qin state, Wuyi, in the Book of Songs. The line tells soldiers to share their armor, cheering each other on as they fight. Chinese phrases such as“同袍”and“袍泽”come from this song, referring to those who have fought together in armies.
·Tough separated by a mountain, we will share the same clouds and rain.
The bright moon belongs not to a single town.

Monarch butterflies(帝王蝶) from the eastern part of North America make the most amazing journey in the insect world. Each year, this tiny creature(生物) travels up to 3,000 miles(4,800 kilometers) to its winter home in central Mexico(墨西哥). How can it fly so far? And what is the purpose of its long and dangerous trip? Scientists still don’t have an explanation.
The length of the butterflies’ trip is only one part of the mystery. The other amazing thing is that the butterflies always return to the same place in central Mexico. How do the butterflies find their way back to the same place? This is an interesting question because only every fourth generation(代) makes the trip south. In other words, the butterfly that travels to Mexico this year is the great-great-grandchild of the butterfly that traveled there last year.
Each year, four generations of a Monarch butterfly family are born. Each generation of the family has a very different life. The first generation of Monarchs is born in the south in late April. It slowly moves north, reproduces, and then dies. On the trip north, two more generations are born, reproduce, and die. Each of these generations of butterflies lives for only two to five weeks. In the fall, the fourth generation of butterflies is born. Compared to its parents, this generation has a long life. It lives for about eight months. This generation of butterflies makes the amazing journey to the winter home of its great-great-grandparents. The butterflies spend the winter there, and in the spring they reproduce and then die. Their children will be the first generation of the next circle. How amazing it is!
