Book sale

On May 5th, we have a book sale in the school library. Students can sell old books to their classmates and teachers. We can buy nice books at very good prices.

Sports Day

We all know doing sports is good for our health. So there is a Sports Day in our school on May 14th.We can play basketball, tennis, ping-pong and soccer on that day. I think we can have a good time.

Art Festival

The art festival is on May 23rd. I’m so happy about it. I can play the piano (钢琴). I like it.

School Trip

On the last day of this month, we have a school trip. We go to a great park (公园), with the students and teachers. It’s really interesting.

【推荐1】The Reading Club meets in the library on Tuesday and Thursday. We read and talk about good books. It is a lot of fun. I tell the other students about my favourite books. Then they tell me about theirs. We also learn about new books and get ready for what to read next.

We can read books alone, or we can listen to English books on CDs. I like this way. It helps me with my English.

Sometimes we read books in pairs. Students in Grade 9 help me read difficult books. They tell me what the words mean. This is very helpful. I like to learn from the older students.

【推荐2】Our school has some interesting and fun things for us this term. On the afternoon of September 21st, we have a school trip. October is a great month. On the 12th and the 15th, we have two ball games, soccer and volleyball. School Day is on October 22nd. Our parents can come to our school. Next month, we have an art festival. It’s on November 3rd. We have an English party on November 30th. And on December 3rd, we have a book sale in the school library. This is a really busy term!

A new survey shows students seem to less and less polite as they grow up and middle school students aren’t as polite as primary school students. They started to swear (说脏话) and laugh at their classmates.

Wu Lin, 13, of Fujian, learned to swear in middle school. “More than 10 of 22 boys in my class often swear,” Wu said. “We just swear for fun most of the time. But later, I understood that it was bad for me. So I stopped.”

Li Fangfang, 13, from Beijing, knows that laughing at others can really hurt. “Once, a classmate put up her hand to answer a question. But she didn’t give the right answer. Then some classmates laughed at her,” Li says,   “From that day on, she never put up her hand. Those laughing kids hurt her a lot.”

“Impoliteness comes from students’ growing pains (痛苦),” says Wang Yamin, a teacher of Xiamen University. “Some middle school students become impolite because their classmates or parents do things that way. They think it’s cool and funny. But our people are famous for politeness. Every student should speak and do things politely to respect others and let others respect you.”
