【推荐1】People develop solar panels (太阳能板) to take energy from the sun and turn it into electricity. Over the past ten years, the price of solar panels has gone down greatly. In many parts of the world, solar energy is now the cheapest form of electricity. More and more people have started using solar energy to power their homes.
However, solar panels also have their problems. They stop working at night and on rainy days. Is it possible to make them produce electricity all the time?
Scientists at Suzhou University have invented a new solar panel now. It can produce electricity not only from solar energy but also from falling rain. When a raindrop falls on the solar panel and then rolls (滚动) down, it creates friction (摩擦力) on the surface (表面) of the panel, which can then be turned into electricity.
Sun Baoquan is one of the inventors, “Our new invention can produce electricity in any weather during the day,” he says. “It can even provide electricity at night if there is rain.”
The field of solar energy is developing fast. Scientists have made some improvement on solar panels. Some have been working on ways to join solar panels and wind power together. Some have been trying to use sunlight to produce liquid and gas fuels (液体和气体燃料).

As we know, we all need clothes. There are all kinds of clothes to satisfy people’s needs. So “smart clothes” came into being.
“Smart clothes” are used not only for covering your bodies, but for many other kinds of uses. A German clothing maker has invented the “MP3 blue jacket”. This kind of jacket can be used as both an MP3 player and a mobile phone. An English company has developed a cloth keyboard that can be put onto your pants. You can control your computer with it easily anywhere. If it gets dirty, the keyboard can be washed and even ironed (熨).
With the technology improving, smart clothes will get much smarter. Inventors are developing clothes that can show your body temperature and heat you up before you feel cold. Other smart clothes to wear are special medical ones. They can tell the doctor when you are in danger. Shirts can warn you of high pollution levels. This technology can also provide important information about your environment. Jackets with GPS (全球定位系统) technology can keep you from getting lost.
People have begun to love the idea. Maybe smart clothes will be common in our life one day.

Reports of the news caused a big response (反响) on the Internet. People were worried and hoped that scientists would find a way to fix the robot. Some said that reaching the Moon was already a great achievement.

Every school has its own set of rules to keep students disciplined (守纪律的). The rules change from one school to another. Some schools are much stricter than others. There are also some rules that look strange or funny to us. Here are some funny school rules:
Japan: Most schools demand that students wear uniforms, such as sparts suits or skirts. But many Japanese schools even regulate(规定)the color of underwear! They also demand that girls’ white socks be folded in a certain way and boys’ heads be shaved(刮过的). Other Japanese schools tell students that they can not date(约会), go to movies, leave home after sunset or play video games without permission.
The USA: For safety at USA schools, students must have a pair of indoor shoes to change into at school every day. Because this makes sure students won’t fall over on the slippery floors and keeps the schools clean. Gum (口香糖)chewing is not allowed in USA school buildings, because it is difficult to clean up. And if students chew gum in class, they may not focus on their study.
Britain: Strange hairstyles are not allowed in some British schools. But they might allow students to wear certain hairstyles during the World Cup. Two students had a special design shaved into their hair during the World Cup. But they were not accepted by their school after that because the school said the rules had changed since then.

Too much screen use is bad for people’s health and almost half of parents are worried about their kids’ screen time. A big smartphone maker has introduced new technology to stop children from spending too much time on their phones.
Apple’s new smartphone tool came after a lot of people said that the Apple company was not doing enough to stop kids and grown-ups from becoming addicted(沉溺)to their iPhones.
The new app, called Screen Time, records how long people spend looking at their phones and sends people weekly reports about their time with screens.
Parents will be able to control their children’s use of smartphones. They can set daily time limits(限度)on each app. When the time runs out, the phone shows a message that "It’s time to move on.
"Parents can get a report of the time their children are spending on apps, how often each hour they are picking up their phones and what is interesting them, " Apple’s Craig Federighi said. "With the help of this app, parents can make decisions about how much time they want their children to spend on phones each day. "
"The company’s new Screen Time tool was badly needed. Apple and all the other big tech companies surely have a social responsibility(责任)to help parents decide on the right smartphone use, " Dr. Joanne Orlando, a researcher in Western Sydney University, said.
She said the Screen Time reports could also help parents who spend too much time on smartphones. In this way, they can see whether they’re looking up from their screens often enough.
