Everyone needs a place to relax, right?

Now young students suffer as much stress as adults do. They face competition, interpersonal relationships and personal problems as adults do. But adults have more social experience and can deal with problems with more self-control. For students, sometimes they have no choice but to rebel(叛逆).

Faced with such a situation, a middle school in Xi’an, northwest China’s Shanxi Province, recently opened its “mood drain room(情绪发泄室)”, a place for students to lift their spirits.

The room provides students with classes to guide their mental(心理的)health development. It’s also a place for practice where students can express the feelings by doing things like boxing(拳击)or shouting.

There are also mental health teachers in the room who help students with questions and also watch them for safety reasons.

Designers have considered different personalities of students when designing these activities. No matter it’s a boy or a girl who shows up, they can put on a pair of boxing gloves to hit a sandbag or shout out loud to relax. A drawing wall and a “writer’s and reader’s corner” are for shy students.

“I wish my school had such a room. But I would feel a little bit shy going there to shout out loud by myself. I like the room to have different theme activities every week so that I feel more comfortable going there,” Xingyuan, a Chinese middle school student shared her opinions.

“What matters is that it should be used in a right way, unlike the place where my son goes to cut classes and box against his classmates. It needs to have professional teachers.” said Li, a parent of a middle school student.

【推荐1】Mr. Guo is a teacher from Xi’an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR Code (二维码). “We spent an hour or two in class leaning how to generate(使产生) the codes, and in the end everything gets easier,” said Guo. “When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone.”

The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans (扫描) his students’ QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.

Guo’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes leaning more fun.” said Tingting, a student of Guo’s.

“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share.” Guo said. “It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fall behind the times.”

However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it’s unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn’t take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students’ work at any time. And it’s also an easy way to share homework with other students.

文章大意:本文主要介绍学生考试焦虑产生的原因。

【推荐3】Exam stress (考试焦虑) is a hard part of life for many students. Why do they often feel stressed when getting ready for exams?

Many students feel stressed because of the expectations (期望) of their teachers and parents. They want to make their teachers and parents pleased (高兴的). This high aim can make the problem of exam stress get worse.

Some stress of the exams may come from the students themselves. Some students are afraid of failure. They are afraid that they can’t pass the exam, so they think about the exam’s difficulty and worry about their grades. This will certainly make them stressed.

If students feel that they haven’t got ready for the exam, they will have a foreboding (有不祥预感的) feeling on test day. This will also make them stressed.

A poor night’s sleep influences students, too. If students do not get enough sleep the night before, they will feel stressed.

Feeling nervous before an exam may always be part of school life. But if students know why they have exam stress, they can do something to stop it.
