Let children learn to judge(判断) their own work. A child doesn’t learn to talk by being corrected all the time. If he is corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the differences between the language he uses and the language others use. Little by little, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people’s.
In the same way, children learn to do all the other things without being taught to walk, run, climb or ride a bicycle. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them himself. We do it all for him. We thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him work out with the help of other children if he wants it.
If it is a matter in math or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such daily work? Our job should be to help the children when they tell us that he can’t find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must learn, how to measure(估量) their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.
Let them get on with this job in their ways. School teachers can offer help if they ask for it. Some parents and teachers are worried that the children might fail to learn something that they will need to get in the world. Don’t worry! If it is important, they will go out into the world and learn it.

“Classes that are digitalized (数字化) and integrated are playing an increasingly important role in the field of education, which also suggests the integrated teaching model is quickly becoming a new type,” said Gao Han, vice-president of ClassIn Interactive Class.
Gao said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the basic education area just moved from offline to online, where ClassIn has helped to reproduce offline scenes to online as much as possible.
“But a more important purpose is that we can make use of our new technologies to develop students’ ability to solve difficult problems in the future,” Gao noted.
Gao shared the opinions during the 2020 Future School Ecology Conference, where EEO, the parent company of ClassIn, announced that it worked together with Beijing 101 Middle School to donate a ClassIn X smart classroom to Liangshan Minzu Middle School in Southwest China’s Sichuan province.
Set up in 2014, EEO's ClassIn is the world’s first online interactive classroom product.
During the COVID-19 outbreak this year, ClassIn has helped over 10,000 offline education organizations to move from offline to online.
The company has started the ClassIn X smart classroom recently, which hopes to provide simple but powerful online and offline integrated teaching solutions to the education area.
According to Xiong Yongchang, head of Beijing 101 Middle School, there are barriers (障碍) for social resources to enter schools.
“With the integrated mode (模式), learning and teaching methods become flexible (灵活的), and the ways schools are organized also are more flexible than in the past,” Xiong said.
“It is not just about taking a class and doing homework online. It is important whether they can make the platform a common part of student life,” he added.

Amir Davis, 16, from New York, US, is a tutor, together with six other teens runs a special tutoring program for other kids in his community. The program mainly helps middle school students who have difficulties in their classes or who are preparing for a test called the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). It is an admissions test for eight STEM-Oriented (注重STEM教育的) public high schools in New York.
As an African-American student at one of these schools, Davis was sad to realize that black and Latino (拉丁裔的) students had low admission rates(录取率) every year. These groups hold only 10.4 percent of the students admitted these schools.
One of the reasons for the, low admission rate is that a number of black and Latino students don’t take the SHSAT, with many families not realizing that they can take the test. So Davis tries to help kids in his area prepare for the test while also helping them with other schoolwork.
Davis and his team recently turned a building that his father bought into a tutoring center. During their tutoring, they first address what the students are doing in their classrooms. If they are having trouble with any specific topic, Davis or other tutors will walk them through it. With this help, the students can try to improve their knowledge of difficult subjects and do better in the classroom.

Wildfires are a part of nature. But, as one firefighter says, “Fire is not a problem. People living near fire—that’s the problem.”A wildfire can destroy(毁坏) everything in its way. But there are ways to fight it.
By air
Smokejumpers(空降森林灭火员) are often the first firefighters to reach a fire. To get closer, they jump from a plane. They are especially important when the area is difficult to walk to. If smokejumpers can’t stop a fire in 24 hours, other firefighters join them. This second group drops water on the fire from an airplane.
On the land
On the ground, firefighters work together to stop the fire. First, one group digs a fire line. This is a long deep ditch(沟). It is difficult for the fire to cross this line.
Then, while those firefighters dig, others start a backfire(回火). They burn the dry grass and leaves between the wildfire and the fire line. When the wildfire comes, there is nothing for it to use as fuel.
Other firefighters cut down dead trees. That way the fire can’t move to other trees. Firefighters risk their lives to keep people safe. Their job takes hard work, and it takes courage.

Kylian Mbappe, who is a sports hero in France, is the most impressive player in my heart. He won the 2018 World Cup title at the age of 20. He was the highest goal scorer in this World Cup with eight goals. Will he become the new king of soccer? I think so. The reasons are that he trains hard and never gives up when facing difficulty. And he is indeed no solo (单独行动的) artist, either. His spirit of hard work and teamwork cheers me up.
Zhao Xuanyu, 14
My deepest impression of the Qatar World Cup belongs to Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina. As a great team, it was surprising when Argentina lost its first game against Saudi Arabia. People started to doubt Messi’s ability. However, Messi didn’t give up. He believed in himself and his teammates. They practiced harder than before and fixed their problems quickly. Finally, Argentina beat Mexico, Poland, Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia and France, and won the World Cup title. From all this, I now believe that where there is a will, there is a way.
Huang Yixiang, 15
I’m a huge fan of Luka Modric, the captain of Croatia’s national soccer team. He led his team to win second place in the 2018 Russia World Cup and he won the Ballon d’Or in the same year. At an early age, he was a shepherd (牧羊人) and his country was experiencing war. But he fell in love with soccer. Through his efforts, he became more and more powerful. In the Qatar World Cup, he led his team to third place, but he believes that his country can win a World Cup title in the future. I not only enjoy his wonderful performance, but also his spirit—never give up and always keep his condition.

【推荐3】Think of the empty cities in zombie (僵尸) movies. The streets, the shops and the schools are still there just like they would be on a normal day, except there are no people to be seen. It is the emptiness that makes you scared.
Now a real-life “ghost city” is being built in the US. But luckily, it has nothing to do with zombies it is going to be a place to test the technology of the future.
Called CITE – the Center for Innovation, Testing and Evaluation (创新测评) – the city is the idea of technology company Pegasus Global Holdings. Covering an area of 15 square miles, this small, empty city sits in the middle of the New Mexico desert (沙漠), since we can’t afford to test the latest technologies in the cities that we live in.
“It will be a true laboratory without safety problems that come with people living there. Here you can break things and run into things, and get used to how they work, before taking them out into the market,” Pegasus managing director Robert Brumley told technology magazine Wired.
In fact, without worrying about hurting people, anybody with a new idea can ask to test it in this city. Just think about the possibilities – A. driverless cars can move freely on the streets, B. homes with robots can be designed, C. shared bikes can be seen everywhere and D. energy sources like nuclear (核的) power can also be put to the test.
As good as the idea may seem, however, there are still doubts about CITE. “One of the most difficult things to do when developing these new technologies is to have them safely move around people, who can suddenly jump out in front of something,” Reese Jones, a beginner of Singularity University, US, Fortune magazine.
Jones is worried that, even if a technology does perfectly well in CITE, introducing it to a real city will still be a whole different story because there will be people living in the city.
But no matter what, perhaps we should wait until CITE is finished in 2019. Maybe it will turn out to work just fine.
1. Why do people need an empty place to build CITE?A.Because the test will do well with the help of CITE. |
B.Because the test will cause danger in our daily lives. |
C.Because they can experience the new future technology. |
D.Because they can help people get used to the technology. |
A.Anyone can ask to try out their new designs in CITE. |
B.Things in CITE can easily be broken down and built again. |
C.Testing all new technologies in a real city will cause problems. |
D.People can suddenly jump out in front of some new technologies. |
A.driverless cars can move freely on the streets |
B.homes with robots can be designed |
C.shared bikes can be seen everywhere and |
D.energy sources like nuclear (核的) power can also be put to the test. |
A.To offer a way to develop future technologies. |
B.To explain CITE and the problems to deal with. |
C.To show that CITE has got a bright future ahead. |
D.To explain why CITE is very helpful to technologies. |

Perhaps unsurprisingly, we prefer to sit closer to people like ourselves. Girls sit by girls and boys sit by boys. Adults sit together and young people choose another young person to sit near. But it goes further than this. We even choose to sit near someone who looks like us. People with glasses are more likely to sit near other people with glasses. People with long hair sit closer to other people with long hair.
We seem to believe that people with similar habits or hobbies will share similar attitude and we are more likely to be accepted by people like ourselves or even, we think we may be safer with people who look like us. Sometimes that’s true but it’s a pity if we always stick to the same people, the same group. The danger in always staying in our comfort zone (舒适区)is that we just recycle the same opinions, the same tastes and the same ideas. We lose the chance to learn something new, find out about interesting things, hear funny stories and discover difference.
When we always stick to the same people, how can we ever break down the barriers which prevent us from getting to know people with different ideas? And how can we avoid the ignorance (无知), which too often leads to prejudice (偏见) and even fear? If instead you want to live in a society that opens to changes and new things and different opinions, be the cat among the pigeons.
Move out of your comfort zone. Go and sit next to someone different. And don’t just sit there in silence. Say hello. Ask a question. Start a conversation. That’s how we make friends. That’s how we learn about people. That’s how we open our minds to new ideas. That’s how we live an exciting life.

D.Because we want to live in a society full of humour. |

The first period: “It can’t be happening.”
Anger: “Why me? It’s not fair.”
Depression: “I’m so sad. Why do I have to do all of these?”
Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK.”
I’m honestly not sure how scientific this model is, but I certainly believe that you will work better after going through these major changes.
Find out what your anger does for you—good or bad?
What does being angry do for you? Think back to the situation where you have been angry at work and ask yourself how it influences you, including: your relationship with co-workers, the quality(质量) of your work and health, how you feel outside of work, your relationship with friends and family.
Find out what makes you angrier and less angry.
What makes you angrier? Which thoughts, situations, people or conversations set you off? And what makes you less angry? I’m sure you are not angry all the time. What makes you calm and stops you from feeling angry? Find out. Then start doing less of what makes you angry and more of the things that cool you down.
Focus on gratitude.
What are you grateful for? As I mentioned above, anger is part of the grief cycle which is connected with what you lose. Gratitude is the opposite of loss because it comes from the good things you have in your life. It’s simple. Every evening, sit down with a piece of paper and make two gratitude lists: three things I was grateful for at work today; three things I was thankful for in life today.
Change your focus from “What was done to me” to “What I can do”.
I know this is the basic piece of all self-help advice. Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about how you deal with it, or you must take responsibility for your own situation, rather than be a victim(牺牲品) of it. That kind of advice can get pretty boring. But that doesn’t make it less true.
