Jason was the star soccer player for his team. Today was the day of the big game and he was excited. He had many chances to control the ball. He used to score in every game of the season. The only problem was that he never let anyone else get a chance to shine.
“Pass! Jason! I’m ready,” shouted Marco as he ran down the field. None of the other team’s players were near him. He wanted to score a goal, but Jason wouldn’t pass the ball. Marco grew angry and disappointed. Jason kept the ball close to his feet as he ran past his opponents(对手). He heard Marco shouting, but he ignored him. Jason was so close to scoring a goal, and he loved the feeling when he scored.
Suddenly the referee(裁判) announced that it was halftime. The players ran towards their coach. “Listen guys,” Coach Terry said. “I need you to pass the ball. Soccer is a team sport. If you can’t be a team player, you can’t be on this team. In order to win this game, you have to play together.”
Jason hung his head in shame. He needed to change his style as a soccer player. When he got back in the game, he would pass the ball to his teammates. It was time to give his teammates a chance to know how great it felt to score a goal.

Several months later, I noticed her window was very dirty. Everything was not clear through the window. I wondered why the woman didn’t wash her window.
One sunny morning, I decided to clean up my apartment, including washing my windows. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down for a rest by the window. What a surprise! The woman sitting by her window was clearly seen! Her window was clean! Suddenly, I realized I had made a mistake. I was watching her through my dirty window all the time!
That was quite an important lesson for me. Since then, whenever I wanted to judge(判断) someone, I asked myself first, “ Am I looking at him through the dirty window of my heart?” Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world clearly.

In July, China introduced the “double reduction” policy. It hopes to reduce students’ learning burden (负担) by reducing homework and afterschool classes. Several months has passed since the new term began. How do students feel about this new policy?
“Our homework is clearly less than before, ” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks any more. The exercises are mainly from the textbook. ”
According to Shen, teachers now teach at a much slower pace. Students have enough time to process new knowledge. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments and learn from real life, ” said Shen. “For example, we went to research earthworms (蚯蚓) in a field during a biology class. This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books. ”
13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama. I have joined a group called ‘leadership development’ where I can learn all kinds of skills beyond academic study, ” said Zhang.
Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it’s not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points, ” Zhang said.
Shen also pointed out that when burden is lightened, self-discipline (自律) becomes the key. ” Some students now spend more time having fun when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind others, ” he said.

I went to the mailbox after the time the mail usually arrived. Nothing, but my neighbours’ mail. I thought that was unusual.
I decided to take my neighbours’ mail to them. I was going to put the mail in their mailbox when a tall man came and shouted at me, “Hey! What are you doing?” He snatched (夺过) the mail from my hand.
I shook my head, “No, believe me. I got this mail by mistake in my box today. I was just bringing it to them.” He gave me a funny look with uncertainty and went back into his house.
I got the knock on the door the next morning by two very polite officers. The angry tall man had phoned the police and told them I was a crazy old woman going around mixing up everyone’s mail. Before I could finish telling them about what was going on, the officers had watched a dog coming near my mailbox with mail in his mouth. He took out the mail that was in my box and put letters in. He pushed the door closed with his nose, picked up the new pile of mail he had got from my box.
The dog had belonged to a postman who had died. No one thought to check on the man’s dog (the postman lived alone). The dog had been trained to put mail in and take mail out of the boxes. After his owner died, he still carried on with his duties.
I went by to talk to the tall man to describe what had happened. He was very pleased when he realized I was not a mail thief. He did, however, adopt (领养) the little guy.
