Dear students,
I’m Li Hua. Today I will talk about the danger of fires and how to prevent them from happening.
In China, safety education is becoming more and more important. Stampedes(蜂拥), earthquakes and fires are the main accidents at school. Students need to learn about how to keep themselves safe at school.
Stampedes often happen in crowded places. When the people begin to push you, you should stand there and hold something. If you fall down in these crowed places, you should protect your head with your hands.
Earthquakes always happen suddenly. If you are inside a building, you can hide under a table or a chair, because it will protect you from being hurt by the falling things. If you are outside a building, you should find an open place and stay away from buildings and trees.
When there’s a fire, leave the classroom as soon as possible. While leaving the classroom, you’d better put something wet over your mouth and ears. In this way, you won’t take in the smoke(烟). In fact, many people die in a fire just because of the smoke. The smoke is full of CO₂(二氧化碳) and that makes it difficult for people to breathe. So you should make yourself close to the floor and try to go out quickly. Then you will be safe and you can breathe the fresh air.
1. Where do Stampedes often happen?2. Why do you hide under a table or a chair when you are inside a building?

Dear editors,
I’m glad to hear that our school radio plans to make a program about road safety.
Yours,
Li Hua
Young children don’t have the skills or knowledge to stay safe in heavy traffic. The following tips(忠告)will be helpful for you to keep your children safe in heavy traffic. Children learn about road safety by watching others. As parents, make sure that you always set good examples. Your children will follow you and think it’s OK to do like you. Teach your children to pay attention to traffic lights when you cross the road together with them. This helps them understand when it’s safe to cross. Make sure you walk between your children and traffic, and hold their hands all the time.
When your children are a little older, you can start to tell them the importance of traffic knowledge. Let them start to understand the reasons why they need to be so careful. Talk with them about road signs and traffic rules.
Ask your children to play in a safe place. Never let them ride bikes on the road without an adult present at rush hours.
The most important thing that you can do is to keep your children from getting hurt, so you should encourage them to follow traffic rules. After knowing about traffic rules, they’ll volunteer to obey them. In this way, they’ll be careful enough to keep themselves away from danger.
1. Do young children know how to stay safe in heavy traffic?2. Who should set good examples to young children on the road?

Children know that summer is the most fun of all seasons. However, experts(专家) say it is also the most dangerous, especially, for children aged 14 and under. In its first study of children’s safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign(NSKC) found that nearly half of the injury-related(与受伤相关的) deaths among children happen in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study’s results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of school and spend more time outdoors. They are more likely to get into an accident or be hurt.
“While we encourage children to be active and spend time outdoors, they need to understand the importance of safety.”said Everett Koop, an expert of the NSKC.
To help children stay safe, the NSKC started a “Make It a Safe Kids Summer” campaign (运动)during National Safe Kids Week, from May 5 through May 12. Here are some important summer safety tips from the NSKC:
*Always wear your seat belt.

Along with the new Curriculum Standard, aesthetic (艺术的) education is on its way.
In the past, the high school entrance exams for Chinese Grade 9 students were mainly about academic (学术的) subjects, such as math and Chinese. But starting from 2022, they are tested in areas like music and art.
“Besides teaching students how to paint, sing or dance, aesthetic education is mainly for developing students’ ability to appreciate artistic beauty, which is very important for students’ mental health,” Fan Di’an, president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, told China Daily.
However, many students and their parents are worried. They think that it will bring heavier pressure. It was also pointed out that not every student would be talented enough to be good at these subjects. “It’s really hard for tone-deaf (音盲的) people like me to sing well. So if music is included in the high school entrance exam, I will need to do more practice before music tests.” Zhao Hanfang, a 15-year old boy student from Yunnan, told newspapers.
