Recently, I haven’t been watching the news too much. The daily reports of death, disease, and war have been starting to wear me down. Every time I turn on the television, it seems like the whole world is ready to end.

But today I got a reminder that the world is still okay. I was taking my son to a second-hand store so he could see if he could find some used CDs to add to his music collection. I parked the car and we both put on our masks. I’ve gotten so used to this that it feels like second nature now.

After we went inside, I walked over to the book section to see if I could find something for myself. I looked around and was both surprised and delighted to see a very elderly lady pushing a baby stroller (婴儿车). She told me that the baby was her great-granddaughter. I looked down at the little girl in her tiny pink dress. She was sleeping peacefully. I looked down at her innocent (天真的) face.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes and looked up at me. For a second I thought she was going to cry, but then she seemed to see me smiling behind my mask and smiled back at me.

It was a warm and innocent smile that could light up the whole world.

Things like this remind me that the world is full of love and beauty. Even when things seem difficult, painful, or scary, there is always love to guide us through. Keep this in mind, and the next time you feel like the world is crashing down around you.

【推荐1】Michael Jordon is the greatest basketball player till now. Once he was making a television advertisement, all he needed to do was to miss a shot.

For Michael, this was difficult. He had conditioned(定位) himself to succeed whenever he was throwing the ball. Every time he threw a basketball, it went in. Every time he tried to miss a shot, he couldn’t. It took him over 20 attempts(尝试) before he missed a shot.

For Michael, success is a strong habit. It took him a lot of time to break it. Just like drinking, smoking and collecting things, success is also a habit. Once it is formed, it is difficult to break. Many people think that success is difficult to keep. They feel that it will be hard work and will need too much action and focus. 【推荐3】One morning, a blind boy sat on the ground with a hat by his feet. He held a sign which said, “I am blind. Please help me.”

There were only a few coins in the hat. A man walked by. He took out a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man came to see how things were going. The boy asked, “Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said, but in a different way.” What he wrote was, “Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing? Of course both signs told people the boy was blind.
