Will it matter if you don’t take your breakfast? Recently a test was given in the United States. Those tested included people of different ages, from 12 to 83. During the experiment, these people were given all kinds of breakfasts and sometimes they got no breakfast at all.
Special tests were set up to see how well their bodies worked when they had eaten a certain kind of breakfast. The results show that if a person eats a proper breakfast, he or she will work with better effect than if he or she has no breakfast. This fact appears to be especially true if a person works with his brains. If a student eats fruit, eggs, bread and milk before going to school, he will learn more quickly and listen with more attention in class. Contrary to(与……相反)what many people believe, if you don’t eat breakfast, you will not lose weight. This is because people become so hungry at noon that they eat too much for lunch, and end up gaining weight instead of losing. You will probably lose more weight if you reduce your other meals.

Last year some scientists wanted to find out if this old saying is true. They divided a college class into two groups. The first group ate 2 apples a day. The second group didn’t eat apples. After six months they added up the times the young people got sick. The apple eaters turned out to be healthier than those who hadn’t eaten apples. By the time the Europeans brought them to Europe in the 1500s, they were larger. They looked more like the tomatoes we eat today.
The history of tomatoes is interesting. When they first arrived in Italy, they were known as “love apples”. Italians believed that if one ate a tomato, he would easily fall in love with it.
However, in the United States, people believed that one would lose his life after eating a tomato. In 1820, Robert Johnson decided to prove people wrong. He announced that he would eat a tomato in the town square. Everyone was shocked at the news. That morning, about 2,000 people showed up to watch. They were sure that Mr Johnson was going to die. Of course, he didn’t. and from then on, tomatoes became popular in America.
In the beginning, people argued whether tomatoes were fruit or vegetables. From a scientific point of view, they were fruit. A fruit was the ripened ovary of any plant that made seeds. However, this didn’t stop most people from calling them vegetables, They said that tomatoes were eaten with the main meal-just like vegetables. So, they thought tomatoes must surely be vegetables.
Whether tomatoes are vegetables or not, they won’t disappear any time now. They are just delicious, for everyone to eat.

Changing who you are
As time goes by, are you still the same person you used to be? Many of you would think you are. But according to a new study, your personality can change greatly. You could be a completely different person at 77, compared to when you were a 14-year-old, reported The Huffington Post.
Psychologists at the UK’s University of Edinburgh did the study on a group of Scottish people. The research found that almost everyone’s personality changed when they grew old. The findings are published in a journal called Psychology and Aging.
The research is based on a study that began in 1950. A group of teachers gave more than 1,200 14-year-old students personality tests. They tested six basic personality traits: self-confidence, conscientiousness, perseverance, desire to excel, creativity and moods.
In 2012, researchers successfully found 174 of the 1,200 students, who were 77 years old on average at the time. They agreed to take a personality test similar to the one they had completed 63 years earlier.
Researchers then compared the then-and-now test results. They were surprised to find great changes to all six personality traits of these people. Moods and conscientiousness had changed less. But there were still not too many similarities between the two results.
The younger and older self seemed to be totally different for each person. It was “as if the second tests had been given to different people,” the study’s authors noted.
In the past, personality was widely believed to be stable. William James, the father of American psychology, said that personality is “set like plaster”. This new study may bring some fresh ideas to the theory.

Inspired by the great poet, China has named its next planetary exploration tasks (行星探测任务) after the poem. The first one—a Mars (火星) exploration task—has been named Tianwen 1.This shows China’s strong wish to explore space and discover its secrets.
Up to now, China has been making great progress in space exploration. As early as 1970, China sent its first man-made Earth satellite (卫星) into space, becoming the fifth country in the world. Since 2003, China has carried out six Shenzhou tasks and sent two space labs into Earth’s orbit (轨道). In December 2018, China became the first country to send the probe (探测器) Chang’e 4 to the moon’s far side, which people can never see from Earth.
In the future, the Tianwen will follow the Shenzhou and Chang’e and move further into space. The first step is to send a Mars probe this year, which will mark the start of China’s exploration of the Mars. The probe is expected to move around, land on and explore Mars in one task. If it sueceeds, it will be the first to complete all of these in one task.
After this task, China plans to visit Mars again in 2028, in order to collect soil from the surface and bring it to Earth. Around 2030, China will explore Jupiter. There is no doubt that China’s space exploration will have a bright future.
