Masks(口罩)not only help save lives but also bring a great danger to wild animals during COVID-19. Single-use (一次性的) masks have been thrown away across the streets, waterways and beaches. They are harmful to the environment and the animals.
In Malaysia, monkeys have been found biting the straps (带子) of used masks in the mountains, which may cause them to lose their breath or even die. There is a similar case. In Britain, a sea gull’s (海鸥的) legs have been found tangled (缠住的) by the mask for almost one week.
It is thought that the biggest influence may be in the water. More than 1.5 billion masks made their way into the world’s oceans last year, resulting in around 6,200 tons of plastic pollution in the oceans, which may enter the food chains and influence the whole ecosystem.
Scientists suggest that the public should use and deal with single-use masks properly and cut the straps to reduce the risk (风险) of animals eating them. People are also encouraged to use washable masks.
1. Masks save the lives of wild animals.2. Masks can’t be found on the streets.
3. If monkeys bite the straps, they will probably die.
4. Masks in the ocean can cause plastic pollution.
5. We are advised not to use single-use masks.

The products include plastic bags, meal boxes, bowls and drinking cups. The province also made a list of products that people can use instead, such as cloth bags and baskets made of bamboo.
Many people have mixed feelings about the ban. “Caring for the environment is good for all of us, but my business costs will grow. The cost of the biodegradable (可生物降解的) plastic bags I prepare for my customers every day will be very high. I hope the bags will become cheaper in the near future,” Wang Ling, a vegetable seller, said.

Do you know how to change your privacy settings (隐私设置) on social media? For example, you can click on the “settings” on your blog to get to your privacy settings. The BBC Share Take Care campaign (活动), is all about helping everybody, from little kids to the over 55s, to make their online activity safer and protect themselves on the web. The campaign says adults and teenagers need to be more careful with personal information and photos online.
Everybody knows that we should be polite and kind to people in real life and online. Unluckily this doesn't always happen. Where can you report online abuse (辱骂) or unkind messages to yourself or your friends? Do you know how to report such messages online? The child next to you won’t stop crying. And the old lady behind you talks on her phone during the whole trip.
Wish the train could be less noisy? There might be a solution for you. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, one of China’s busiest high-speed rail lines, will have “quiet” carriages (车厢) starting from Dec 23, 2020.
In quiet carriages, onboard videos will be muted (静音) and announcements will be made at a lower volume. Doors at the ends of the carriage will be kept closed to reduce noise from other carriages. Train attendants will be responsible for making sure that passengers remain quiet and follow the rules.
Passengers who are willing to obey the rules can choose the quiet carriages when booking their tickets, according to China’s national railway operator.
Some people have pointed out that this kind of quiet environment should be offered in all carriages. They say that having quiet carriages might give people the impression that they don’t need to be quiet in non-quiet carriages.
While some internet users are in favor of the new service, it has also sparked discussion about just how quiet travelers should be in quiet carriages. Many people have raised questions such as “What if I snore (打呼噜)?” and “Can we talk to our travel companions if we need to?”

There are many interesting labor classes now. Students from a school in Chongqing have a class about catching fish in the river and learning about their habits. In Shanxi Province, students make tofu with beans. They also cook it by themselves. The labor classes make them feel happy when they cook delicious meals. Some students also keep small animals at home like chickens. This helps students learn how to care for living things and also make them more interested in biology.
According to the new policy (政策) middle school students need to learn the following skills in labor classes: clean their rooms and classrooms, pick proper (合适) clothes for travel, cook three or four meals, and take part in labor activities such as planting or fishing.
A study shows that doing labor work is good for students. The students can get more self-control (自制力), do better in school, and feel happier from it. Labor classes not only teach them important skills but also are a great way to relax during a busy school day. So which kind of labor skill do you want to learn most?
