Located at the foot of Datang Mountain in Changping District of Beijing, the China Aviation Museum is Asia’s largest museum displaying aircraft relics. The collection has about 200 aircraft of over 100 types and more than 700 examples of weapons and equipment. You can see some research materials and participate in many aviation activities in person.
Its mark which is up to 9 meters high is the first thing you will see when you walk into the China Aviation Museum. It is a milky white pillar holding a white single-seat light fighter plane which appears to soar in flight.
The China Aviation Museum is divided into three large exhibition areas: Cavern Exhibition Hall, Open-air Exhibition Area, and Integrated Hall.
The Cavern Exhibition Hall is in the south of the mark. In this hall, you can get a good knowledge of the world’s great aviation treasures from ancient to modern aircraft and equipment. These exhibits are placed on two sides in time sequence. The right side not only exhibits aircraft which are famous in Chinese aviation history, the left side is a series of modern aircraft produced by China.
As you walk to the north from the mark, you cannot miss the Open-air Exhibition Area. The Hero Avenue runs through it and divides the area into two parts. There is an artificial lake on the left of the Hero Avenue. On the southern side of the lake planes which were used specially for great people are displayed. The right side of the Hero Avenue exhibits fighter planes, radar and helicopters.
All the way down to the Hero Avenue lies the Integrated Hall. In this hall it displays 28 real aircraft, over 550 models of various aircraft, missiles, antiaircraft artillery, radar etc, more than 200 pieces of small cultural relics, 20 audio and video demo tablets, 12 sand table scenes and 1850 pictures and photos. It is often said that dogs are “man’s best friends”. But for some children in China, this idea has taken on a deeper meaning.
Wu Qi, a dog trainer in Shanghai, started the Paw for Heal (PFH) program in China about eight years ago. The program trains dogs for animal-assisted therapy (动物辅助治疗). These animals help old people feel quiet and less stressed. They also help people with mental (精神上的) illnesses.
In Shanghai, the dogs have been trained to help kids with autism (自闭症) who are easily scared by their environments. When the PFH dogs are around, they feel much better.
Pet owners can train their pets to become therapy dogs through PFH. Although this training is difficult (only 20 percent of dogs can pass the program), it also helps a lot of people.
“She (my dog) makes me happy every day, and I think she can bring happiness to other people in need as well,” one of the pet owners Wang Lei said in a report by Sixth Tone.
Animal-assisted therapy is new to China. But Wu has high hopes for the future, as he is now working together with a British university to improve his program.
“Through learning from the European team, China may shorten the time to catch up with Western countries in this field by several years.” Wu said in the Sixth Tone report.

The famous English writer Charles Dickens said that he could walk down any street in London and then tell you the name of every shop he had passed. Many of the great men of the world have had wonderful memories.
A good memory is a great help in learning a language. Everybody learns his own language by remembering what he hears when he is a small child. Some children don’t live in their own country, and they seem to learn two languages almost as easily as one.
A man’s memory is rather like a camera, but it takes photos not only of what we see but of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo with a camera, there is much to do before the photo is finished and ready to show to our friends. Memory is the diary we all carry about with us.

Hi, Li Hua,
It’s great to hear from you.
Do you know National Space Day? In my country, we celebrate it on the first Friday of May every year.
It was National Space Day last Friday. My brother Jimmy asked me to go to the museum with him. I didn’t want to go at first. But he promised to teach me how to ride a bike, so I went there with him by bus. I thought the museum was just so-so, but Jimmy really loved it.

Jimmy has taken a lot of photos of the museum. Do you want to have a look at them? If so, I will ask him to send some to you.
Yours,
