Finally, we’ll end our tour at Nam Van Lake, where we’ll watch an excellent laser (激光) show.

Pull at the rope

Every spring, there are sports meets at many middle schools. When students on the playground crowd into a big circle and shout loudly, “One, two, one, two,” do you know what game is on? It is tug of war.

Tug of war is a team sport between two teams at each end of a rope. There’s a white line in the middle of the field. The winning team is the one that drags the other over the line within the given time limit.

Tug of war first appeared in China 2,400 years ago. The Chu State invented the Gou Ju, a weapon for battle. When an enemy was about to run away, the soldiers used the weapon to hook the enemy and pull him back. Later, the Gou Ju spread from the army to the common people and gradually became today’s tug of war game.

However, there were similar games in ancient Egypt. It was a real competition to train soldiers for war. Teams of three soldiers held each other around the waist and tried to pull the other team over a line on the ground.

Tug of war was once an Olympic sporting event. It remained until 1920. Although it isn’t an Olympic sport now, people in almost every country like playing it very much.

Keep healthy

Being healthy is important. Bill’s family play sports for half an hour every day. Lisa is Bill’s sister. She likes dancing, so she is in the music club. Bill is in the school swimming club. And his parents run every morning.

Evening time is family time

They can’t watch TV or play computer games after dinner. The family usually sit(坐) on the sofa and talk. Bill always talks about his school and friends. Sometimes they take a walk.

Bill says “I love you” to his parents in the morning before he goes to school, and in the evening before he goes to bed. His parents say it to him, too. When Bill helps his mother, she says “Thank you”. They show their love and thanks all the time(一直).

This is an old English saying. It means that we should go to bed early at night and get up early in the morning. If we do, we shall be healthy. We shall also be rich and clever.

Is this true? Perhaps it is. The body must have enough sleep. Children of your age need ten hours’ sleep every night. If you do not go to bed early, you can’t have enough sleep. Then you can’t think properly and you can’t do your work properly. You will not be wise and you may not become wealthy!

Some people go to bed late at night and get up late in the morning. This is not good for them. We should sleep at night when it is dark. The dark helps us to sleep well. When the daylight comes, we should get up. This is the time for exercise. If the body is not used, it will become weak. Exercise keeps it strong.

Exercise helps the blood to move around inside the body. This is very important. Blood takes nutrition (营养) to all parts of our bodies. The brains in our heads also need blood. We think with our brains. If we keep our bodies healthy and take exercise, we can think better!

Our bodies also need air to breathe. Without air we will die. Get up early in the morning and we can have plenty of clean, fresh air. That will keep us healthy and happy.

【推荐2】A person has two ears but only one mouth. That means we should listen, not just speak. The word “listen” has the same letters as the word “silent”. Listening silently is a good quality that we should have. Then why is it important to be a good listener?

Listening is polite behavior. Sometimes, we just want others to listen to us but forget to listen to others. In fact, that’s not polite. In order to show our respect for others, we had better listen to them first. Then we can express our ideas.

Listening sounds easy, but it’s not. Every head is a world. So we should learn to listen with our ears, eyes and hearts as much as we can, and try to make ourselves good listeners from now on.
