文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了生活中常见的动物——蚂蚁。

【推荐1】Ants are everywhere. They live in forests, fields, deserts and cities, all over the Earth. But how much do you know about them?

Ants are social animals. They live and work in groups. They always build nests, find food, and raise babies together. They have their own colonies (群体). Ant colonies are large or small, from just a few ones to millions!

Usually, ants are divided into (被分成) several different classes (等级) such as queens, workers, males and so on. Queens are females and they eat more as larvae (幼虫). Queen ants are usually the biggest ants in colonies. They lay all the eggs. A queen ant can live for several tens of years. Males have wings and they never help with the chores. They can only live for a few weeks. Workers are females and they eat less as larvae. Workers do all the “housework” from building and cleaning the nest to collecting food. Workers are wingless and usually live for several months.

Ants are also clever architects. They can build their homes in different places. You may find their nests under rocks or in the trees. What’s more, the nests that they build are perfect for ant larvae to grow up. One ant by itself cannot do much harm to many larger animals. But they can beat much bigger and stronger enemies in large groups. By acting together, ants can even protect their colonies against animals. If you are lucky enough, you may see such a wonderful fight!

【推荐2】In 2017, the BBC documentary Spy in the Wild《荒野间谍》gave us a chance to look much more closely into the world of animals through the eyes of “animal spies”. These spies are actually robots with cameras that look like real animals. They “live” together with animals in order to record their lives. Returning for its second season, Spy in the Wild follows the tradition of the first season while introducing new cameras and robots. With the help of these devices, a spy turtle can lay robot eggs, a spy squirrel (松鼠) can gather robot nuts (坚果), and monkeys can play with a spy snowball.

In the new season, more than 50 spy robots are sent to study animals in all kinds of environments from under the Pacific Ocean to the cruel Arctic cold. But these spies don’t just record everyday goings-on-they study the emotional (情感的) connections that are shared between animals first-hand. For example, a spy penguin was accepted as part of a group in South Georgia Island. It watched on as a penguin parents pushed their way through a barrier (障碍) of 6,000 elephant seals (海象) in order to make it home to feed their chicks.

“Quite accidentally, our spy creature is at the center of something special, capturing (捕捉到) emotions that have seldom been watched,” series narrator (旁白) David Tennant told CNET.

Speaking to PBS, director John Downer said, “The whole point is...trying to get closer than we ever have before to capture those elusive (难以得到的) moments when they start to show the kind of emotions we have.”

1. The text is mainly to ________.
A.tell a storyB.keep a diary

2. What do we know about the new season?
A.There are more than 100 robots in the new season.
B.The new season focuses on emotional connections between animals.

3. What does John Downer mean in the last paragraph?
A.It is very hard to get closer to animals.
B.It is impossible for animals to have human emotions.
C.It is very hard to record animals’ emotions.
D.The closer we get to animals, the more we know about them.

【推荐3】We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Bird, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons: most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.

When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁徙)is probably the migration of the fish, which is called “salmon”. This fish is born in fresh water, but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life because they can get food easily there. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mice. They live their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.

Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobsters(龙虾). Every year, when the season of the bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go. So, sometimes we know why humans and animals move from one place to another, but at other times, we don’t. Maybe living things just like to move.
