The start of a new year is a very wonderful time to take up something. Maybe that’s why so many people make New Year’s resolutions. People hope they’ll stop their bad habits and start good ones. However, a study shows that about 80% of people break their New Year’s resolutions before February. Why does this happen? That’s because they don’t make or keep their resolutions the right way. The following ideas may be helpful.

First, your resolutions should be specific (具体的). Don’t make a resolution like “I’m going to get healthy this year.” It doesn’t tell you what you need to do to become healthy. Make a specific one like “Get healthy by eating less and doing some running every morning.”

Second, just take it easy. It takes time to start a new habit. Never expect to reach your goals (目标) in just a few days or weeks.

Third, share your resolutions with others. Tell what your resolutions are to your family or close friends or join a group with the same goals as you. These people will help you to reach your goals when you want to give up (放弃).

根据语篇内容,判断下列句子正误,正确的 “T”,错误的 “F”。
1. Many people make New Year’s resolutions at the start of a new year.
2. Most people break their New Year’s resolutions very early in the year.
3. Specific resolutions can help you to be healthy.
4. You can’t reach your goals in a short time.
5. The passage is mainly about what is a New Year’s resolution.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了《无塑料生活》这本书,以及作者相关的观点。

【推荐1】Life Without Plastic is an online store run by a Canadian couple Chantal Plamondon and Jay Sinha. On its website you can find a lot of plastic-free objects. I have spent much time looking at the objects on this website that I had never imagined existing(存在)in plastic-free forms.

Now, the couple have written a book, titled Life Without Plastic: The Practical Step-by-Step Guide to Avoiding Plastic to Keep Your Family and the Planet Healthy. The book digs into the problems with plastic and tells us what we can do to deal with them. It explains why moving away from plastic in our lives is so important.

As a green lifestyle-writer I have done a lot of reading about plastic over the years, but until picking up this book, I hadn’t realized that most of the public discussion about plastic pollution focuses on waste and litter, rather than its toxicity (毒性). While the book does talk about waste, the most important lesson for me comes from learning what plastic does to our human bodies when we come into contact with it every day.

In the book, the couple also explain the plastic-making steps, how plastic can take so many forms as well as how reusing takes place. Besides, they offer detailed advice about cutting down on plastic in our lives as much as possible.

The final part of the book encourages readers to be part of the plastic-free movement by connecting themselves with like-minded people and groups around the world. There are lists of researchers and artists, all of whom are working to fight against plastic pollution.

You may have been encouraged to make big changes to your life, but as they say the beginning, you don’t have to do it all at once. Start with small steps and work ward meaningful goals.
