There are several causes for the fires. Some were started     1     by people, and others were caused by lightning strikes or electrical equipment. Yet experts say the fires are particularly bad this year because of climate change. Climate change is the long-term changes in world weather patterns,     2     rising temperatures. In recent years, California has experienced drought (a long period of time without rain) and very hot temperatures. This month, heatwave in California saw temperatures     3     49℃ in Los Angeles county. This hot, dry weather creates ideal conditions for wildfires to spread. Another cause is the lack of forest management. This involves burning dead trees in a controlled way so that when a fire does start, there is less     4     for it to burn, and it can be more easily controlled.

When I was in primary school, I seldom helped my parents at home. I thought I     1     spend my time on schoolwork to get good grades. My parents did all the chores. I used to make a mess and throw     2     things everywhere.   

One day, when my mother went home after work and found a lot of rubbish in our house, she got so mad at me. She said to me     3    , “You must do some housework every day from now on.” I talked back loudly, “It is the     4     job to provide a clean and comfortable environment at home.”

Now I’m a 15-year-old middle school student. I have a labor (劳动) class at school every week. The     5     teaches us how to make food, tidy the room, grow some vegetables and so on. I understand that doing housework is     6     difficult than I used to imagine. Thinking back those old days, I regret (后悔) what I have done before. I begin to do more housework, so my parents can     7     a good rest when they come back from work. They     8     also proud (自豪的) of my changes.

In my opinion, we children should be     9     and take care of ourselves. Because it not only helps us learn many basic skills, but also helps us develop good     10    .

I still remember it was an early autumn. Some     1     started to turn yellow and the weather got cool. One day, as I was getting ready for school, my mother carelessly handed me my father’s vest (背心) instead of     2    . At that time, I was getting to have a     3     size than my father, so when I put on the vest, I felt as if I wasn’t able to breathe! I realized that it was a small mistake which was     4     by my mother, but somehow the breathless feeling was so strong that it made me very angry. I put on my own vest and rushed out of the house     6     my mother could stop me.

Later, my mother shared her bad feelings with my father, “See what your son has done.” Instead of saying he would scold (责备) or beat me, my father     7     asked my mother to mend (修补) the vest. Later when my mother told me about this, I felt ashamed (惭愧的). My father’s gentle kindness     8     me a lesson which I would never forget.

On that day, I decided not to let anger     9     me any more. When I’m angry, I     10     to remember my dad’s vest. It reminds me to think about others’ feelings when I’m angry.
