China’s major telecom carriers (电信运营商) will start to provide 5 G services in China. The “G” in 5 G refers to the generations of mobile technologies. 1 G let us talk to each other, 2 G let us send messages, 3 G gave us mobile data (数据) and the Internet, and 4 G made all of these things a little faster.

Now 5 G promises much faster speed, and more connections. This means that you will be able to download an entire HD movie in seconds and only experience a short delay (延迟) between sending and receiving data.

According to The Times, 5 G will be able to improve many advanced technologies. With a 5 G network, the short delay in information exchange will allow driver less cars to run more safely, as they will be able to communicate in real time and avoid possible dangers. Meanwhile, 5 G—enabled wearable products will keep doctors in touch with their patients and warn them right now if there’s something wrong. Besides, VR games will be more popular with 5 G. The short delay of 5 G will make games feel even more real.

But 5 G is not perfect. For one thing, 5 G will not “travel”far. On 4 G networks, you can be 10 kilometers away from the nearest transmission base (传输基地). But 5 G will only cover about 300 meters, meaning that we will need more transmission bases so that we can get signals. And in order to use 5 G, we have to buy new products designed for 5 G that are expensive now.

1. What can’t we do with 5 G?
A.Play games quickly and safely.
B.Experience more network connections.
C.Make VR games more popular.
D.Download an HD movie in seconds.
2. How far can you be away from the nearest transmission base if you use a 5 G mobile phone?
A.About 3 kilometers.B.About 10 kilometers.
C.About 300 kilometers.D.About 300 meters.
3. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Fewer transmission bases will be needed in the near future.
B.New products designed for 5 G are inexpensive now.
C.If patients have difficulty, doctors can help them at once with the help of 5 G.
D.There will be no delay in information exchange with 5 G.

More and more people around the world are taking part in some dangerous activities. Of course, many people have climbed the highest mountains or explored unknown parts of the world. Now, however, there are people who want to get quick pleasure from a dangerous activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.

Ⅰ think bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope (弹力绳) tying to your ankles (脚踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. Besides, you should be of a proper weight. Generally, you have to be over 50 kilos but less than 100 kilos. And those with a heart disease aren't allowed to do so. So far over 2,000,000 people around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Other activities, such as jumping from the tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high rocks are as dangerous as bungee jumping.

Like other sports, injuries can still happen, and there have been deaths. Mostly, what may cause death is to use a rope that is too long. The rope should be fully shorter than the height of the jumping place so that there is enough room to jumpers. Either slowing down or keeping speeding up depends upon the speed of falling.

Since there are dangers, why do people take part in such activities? Some scientists think it is because life in modern society has become safe and boring. Now life has little excitement.

1. Exploring unknown places is regarded as a dangerous activity.
2. Before you start bungee jumping, an inelastic rope should be tied to your ankle.
3. Some people get injured after bungee jumping.
4. You are allowed to join in the bungee jumping as long as you are of a right weight.
5. People expect to seek for excitement from bungee jumping.
