At my summer camp, campers got a badge (奖章) for each activity we learned. We could win a swimming badge, a climbing badge, a singing badge and a hiking (远足) badge. I got them all but the hiking badge. That was my biggest problem.
I had lots of difficulties in hiking. My unhappiest time was when I fell over. I just couldn’t find any fun in hiking. My teacher, Sarah, talked to me alone one day. “We’re going to get you to love hiking,” she told me. “You need to learn to enjoy nature.” So Sarah and I hiked together. As we walked, she pointed out things that I had never seen carefully before. There were many pretty things to see, such as flowers and hills. I heard sounds of birds singing and the river running. I started to become interested, but Sarah told me to go back to camp.
Only then did I notice that the sun was setting and it was getting dark. I slowly went back the way we had come, because I wanted to see more beautiful things. Before I knew it, I had arrived at the camp. I may never be the best hiker, but I won my hiking badge. I can find beautiful things in nature everywhere. I really know how to enjoy it.

No matter how hard things got, my mom could always joke about them. It has taught me things are never, ever, end-of-the-world kind of bad. I’m sure this has made me a more relaxed person.
Self-expression leads to self-achievement.
As a creative, my mother always encouraged us to do imaginative things for enjoyment and discouraged TV. We dressed up in costumes(戏服), drew pictures, and sang at the top lungs (肺). Today, I am a very fun person to be with.
Independence is important.
My mom has always pushed me towards becoming independent. Not for her good, but for mine. I made my own decisions without her trying to manage me. Because of this,

Two elderly women were standing back from their car. There was fear on their faces. I looked and saw what they saw: five yellow jackets (小黄蜂) building a nest around their gas cap. I suddenly felt scared (惊恐的). I shared the ladies’ fear.
Yellow jackets have never been friends of mine. Several times these wasps (黄蜂) have attacked (攻击) me while I was cutting the grass, stinging (蛰) me each time I ran over their nests. The worst time, however, was when I was a young boy. A friend of mine and I were playing in my backyard. I must have stepped on one of their nests again because before I knew it, both of us were being chased and stung by the yellow jackets while we ran away screaming. I ran to my mum with tears in my eyes. She ran a cold bath (浴盆) and put us both in it to ease (减轻) the pain before giving us medicine to help us feel better.
Still, I knew I couldn’t let fear stop me now. I reached into my pocket for a paper towel I had there, took the nest down and stepped on it while the wasps buzzed around me. Both of the ladies thanked me for what I did.
You can’t let the fear of being stung keep you from doing what is right. We need to love each other and change the world for the better. And the only way you can do this is through helpful acts and kindness. Don’t let the yellow jackets in your life hold you back.

①I don’t know what first made me interested in becoming a teacher. It is just something I had always wanted to do. When I was 5 years old, I wanted to become a teacher. I used to take all my toys, line them up and teach them. I had a white board that I would write on.
②When I was in high school, I was lucky to join in a teaching activity. During this, we worked with the students in Grade 9 and helped them prepare for high school. Besides, we helped them with homework if they needed it, and taught them how to deal with hard situations. To them, we were teachers. It was a special experience (经历) in my life, and I’d never forget the feeling I got when one student of mine who was shy broke out of her comfort zone (舒适区). The next two years when I saw her in the school, she’d always smile and say hello. This made me feel great because I felt like I had made a difference.
③At the same time, this experience also helped me a lot. I broke out of my comfort zone because I was now the teacher. Being put in a situation like this pushed me to be more outgoing and patient. Working with them still helped me to better myself and improve my teaching skills.

Everyone started getting off the train and an old woman saw that I was confused and stressed. She could speak some English and told me that an accident had happened on the tracks (轨道) . She asked me where I was trying to get to, then went and talked to some workers, and came back to tell m that we’d have to hop trains three or four times to get there.
I was really glad she was heading the same way because it would have been impossible for me to figure it out on my own. So we went from one train station to the next, getting to know each other along the way.
She was really the sweetest woman. It was a 2.5-hour journey in total, and when we made it to the final destination, we got off and said our goodbyes. I had made it just in time to catch my train to Rome. She told me she had a train to catch as well. I asked her how much farther she had to go and it turned out that her home was two hours back the other way.
She had jumped from train to train and traveled the whole way just to make sure that I made it. I was in shock. A woman spent her whole day sitting on trains and taking her hours away from her home just to help out a confused tourist visiting her country.

There were five girls in our family and we all had to help out. Once when I was about seven, I came out of the kitchen, “Mom, I can’t peel (削……皮) potatoes. I only have one hand.” “You get back to peel those potatoes, and don’t ever use that as an excuse for anything again!”
Of course I could peel potatoes with my good hand and my other arm. “Jenny, if you try hard enough,” she said, “you can do anything.”
Once in the second grade, our teacher had each of us race across the monkey bar (攀爬架). When it was my turn, I said “No”. Some kids laughed. I went home crying.
The next afternoon, Mom took me back to the school playground. “Now, pull up with your right arm,” she advised. She praised me when I made progress (进步). I’ll never forget when I was crossing the bar, the kids were standing there with their mouths open.
