What’s going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet?
Digital money
We need to pay with cash for everything we bought. Now when we use a credit card to shop online, money is spent without us seeing it.
Bionic (仿生的) eye
A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send data to the mind.
Unlike a human driver, a self-driving car won’t get distracted (分神) by a phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors (探测器) and cameras on the car would allow it to stick strictly to the rules of the road and keep a safe distance from other cars. This would greatly reduce the number of road accidents. You could even take a nap while the car drives itself. In the future, driverless cars would be widely accepted.
A.That means we are already using digital money. |
B.Will computers become smarter than us? |
C.Self-driving cars |
D.Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. |
E.It’s no longer something only in a science fiction movie. |

In a country where 1. 3 billion people speak 22 officially-recognized languages and hundreds of dialects (方言), communication online can be a problem.
Although there is a rapid rise in the number of Indian internet users who don’t speak English as the first language, 60% won’t shop online because of language problems.
Niki, a voice-enabled e-business app, is trying to solve this. It helps people to use voice commands (指令) to do shopping online. Users speak to the app in their preferred language, ordering products. Niki then presents buying choices from its product providers.
The company’s goal market is people who don’t live in cities and do not speak English In the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, the app has been used for more than 10 million online transactions (交易) since 2018. Now Niki can offer people service in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and English. The company is planning to introduce seven more languages, and hopes to carry out its business in 10 more states.
Thanks to a machine learning algorithm (算法), Niki is able to understand languages better and better. When the app first appeared, the algorithm only had a 65% accuracy (准确) rate. Now, it can deal with voice commands with 95% accuracy because of a bank of over 250 million conversations, Jaiswal says.
The app differs from typical online marketplaces. It limits the number of buying choices. Rather than offering many similar products as the supermarkets do, Niki presents a few quality - controlled objects from providers. That is more like a la sore.
When users speak to Niki in their native language, the app speaks back in the way of neighborhood shopkeeper. This “culture of service” is popular with many Indian people.

In Singapore, a company has showed a flying taxi. When some people travel in flying taxis, there will be fewer cars on the roads. It can be less crowded. In the 3D space of the sky, cars could move around each other without bridges or roads. The taxis can also take off and arrive on rooftops. That will save parking space on the ground. And flying is fun. It’s cool and interesting to fly in the sky every day on the way to work.
However, some people don’t like flying cars. A famous scientist has a rocket company and a car company. It seems that he can make flying cars, but he says, “If the sky is full of flying cars, it will be noisier. Something may fall on people’s heads more easily. It’s dangerous.” He thinks it’s much better to build lots of tunnels (隧道) underground.

Meet Sora, the cool model from OpenAI. It can turn your words into videos like magic (魔法)! Just tell Sora your idea, and watch it make a video right before your eyes.
How good is it?
Videos made by Sora look good on both computers and smartphones. Sora can also make videos with lots of people doing different things with clear details (细节). It also knows how things should look in real life.
How does work?
Sora looks at many videos and learns from them by breaking them into very small pieces. It uses these pieces to make a new video. The new video is gray at first and very messy (乱糟糟的) —you can’t tell what’s in it. Then, Sora fixes the video until it looks good and smooth.
Sora also gets help from ChatGPT. It turns the user’s short sentences into clear instructions (指令). This helps Sora make the video just as you asked.
Is it good enough?
Sora may find “busy” pictures hard to understand. For example, when a person moves, things around them change (变化). Sora may not be able to tell “left” from “right” and mess up a person’s leg moves.

【推荐1】Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self-driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves? Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner than you think.
Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Every home there will have a “telepresence system (远程遥控系统)”—allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, health care and government services. Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to deal with the coming problems. “Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener,” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.
