Nowadays, teenagers are committing more crimes. Countries around the world try hard to avoid youth crimes.
The parents of a US boy were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter (过失杀人罪) because they didn’t stop their son from shooting (枪击) at school in Michigan, US. They were sentenced (判刑) to 10 to 15 years in prison on April 9 while the boy was sentenced to life.
This is the first time in the US that parents have been punished for what their child did in a mass shooting. Prosecutors argued that the parents ignored (忽视) clear signs of their son’s mental health problems and they even bought the gun he used in the 2021 attack. The boy was 15 years old when he killed four students and made seven others wounded at Oxford High School in Michigan.
“Opportunity (机会) knocked over and over again, louder and louder, and it was ignored,” Judge (法官) Cheryl Matthews told the court.
When kids do really bad things, like shootings, it makes people all over the world think about how to stop the tragedies (悲剧) from happening again. While most countries and regions have made 12 or 14 the lowest age for being held responsible for a crime, some tried to lower the age of criminal responsibility (刑事责任).
In 2010, Denmark lowered its age from 15 to 14. But it didn’t stop 14-year-olds from committing crimes. Instead, punishment made it harder for them to go back to school. That led to worse behaviors and an increasing number of youths committing crimes again. So, two years later, Denmark put the lowest age of criminal responsibility back to 15 years old.
In Germany, the government focuses more on teaching and helping young people who commit crimes, rather than just punishing them. As noted in a 2018 paper published in the Justice Evaluation Journal, they try to educate and guide young people to live better lives, instead of just putting them in prison.

This means that one person usually has more control or influence than the other; perhaps the bully is bigger, older or more “popular” than the person being bullied.
Types of Bullying
Physical bullying involves (涉及) repeated hitting, kicking, pushing, and touching in unwanted and improper ways. For example, a child gets his shorts pulled down on the playground at lunchtime.

Social
Social bullying involves preventing someone from joining or being part of a group on purpose, whether it’s at a lunch table, game, sport, or social activity. For example, a group of girls in dance class keep talking about a weekend party and sharing pictures, treating the only uninvited child as if she were not there.

A new standard (标准) for labor (劳动) education recently came out. Students in primary and middle school will have at least one class a week to try and experience different kinds of chores and learn different life skills and even job skills for each grade.
Middle school students need to learn the following skills:
Everyday Chores
Seventh-to-ninth-graders have to clean up their rooms and classrooms. When there’s a travel plan, they should pick their proper clothes and pack a suitcase (行李箱) by themselves. While fifth-and sixth-graders know how to cook two or three common dishes, middle school students need to cook one or two more dishes than them. Making healthy daily eating plan is also necessary to learn. What’s more, they are asked to challenge themselves to look after and fix home appliances, such as washing the air conditioner(空调) and cleaning the washing machine.
Productive Labor
Middle school students have to take part in both local labor, such as planting and fishing, and one or two industrial products (工业产品), like paper-making. Making one or two kinds of traditional handicrafts (手工艺品) such as pottery (陶艺) and wood caving (木工) is in the standard, too.
Service Labor
It’s middle school students’ duty to do one or two kinds of volunteer work like helping put the shared bikes in order and be ready to take part in modern service labor.
This move is to make Chinese students’ life colorful and build their character through labor. Schools and homes are the main positions to achieve the goals of labor education. The standard also calls on families to take part in students’ labor education in order to help students be more independent.

According to the Ministry of Education, the introduction of the rule is a way of making sure of the safety, nutrition and health levels of school food. School leaders from kindergartens to high schools should get together with students during school meals. The plan will guide them to pay more attention to food safety at school.
This move came after a list of school food safety problems in the past few years. In March, 2019, moldy food was found in a primary school dining room in Chengdu. The news led to people's worries. Parents asked to make sure of school food safety.
Under the new rule, schools are asked to tell where the food comes from, who offers it and other information. The rule says schools should help students get into healthy eating habits. It also invites parents to eat with students at school to make them less worried.
In the United States, obesity rates have kept rising over the past thirty years. The new law introduced by Michelle Obama has pushed schools to make low-calorie(卡路里) menus. Even the healthiest choices are commonly provided by large food companies.

Simon shook his head, smiling. He hardly listened or tried hard in class. Talking was so much fun. He wanted to be heard rather than listen.
“Listen. And you will learn something.” Mrs. Jacobs tried every day, but Simon never paid attention.
That evening, his throat really hurt. The next morning, when he opened his mouth to say “Good morning”, nothing came out but a croak (低沉沙哑的声音).
Simon’s mother looked at him, “Honey, you’ve lost your voice.”
“Can I stay at home?” He tried to ask, but words didn’t come out. Instead, his mother checked him for a fever and decided it was good for him to go to school, even if he couldn’t talk.
When he got to school, Mrs. Jacobs said “Hello” to him, and he just nodded (点头). When his friends asked him what TV shows he watched last night, he just shrugged (耸肩). By the time the bell rang for class, almost everyone was looking at him as if he’d grown a third eye.
Penny raised her hand, “Mrs. Jacobs, why isn’t Simon talking?”
“He never stops talking,” Richard said worriedly.
Everyone started talking at once. They were excited, worried, and surprised.
Simon sat in class, bored. He watched them talk to each other as if the teacher wasn’t there, but he couldn’t even do that. In math class he could hold up fingers if the answer was less than 10, but that wasn’t fun. He decided to try to pay attention.
He could do his homework that night. It gave him TV and game time with his work all done.

It is said that he once used a very large mirror, or a set of mirrors to set fire to Roman ships attacking his home city of Syracuse. He also helped King Hiero solve the problem of the golden crown easily without destroying it. He liked studying the world around and trying a lot to find out the truth. Here is a story about him.
One day, when he was walking in the street, he saw a thin girl getting a big bucket (圆桶) of water from a well without difficulty. He then watched and thought it over. After studying this for a long time, he got the famous conclusion—the law of the lever. He then said to the king, “Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth.” The king didn’t believe him and asked him to support his idea by pulling a huge warship into the river by himself. Archimedes first set up an operating crank (操作曲柄) by the bank. He then put a group of pulley blocks between it and the warship. Later he could pull the warship into the river by moving the operating crank. From then on, the king trusted him and asked everyone to trust him.
