Du is a student from Beijing No.25 Middle School. Four years ago, her teacher Chen Haoyu started giving his students an unusual course: self-protection.

According to a new Ministry of Education (教育部) survey, student safety has become a big problem. Nearly 50 percent of students say they are worried about robbery (抢劫) on the way to and from school. Besides this school, others like Shenzhen Bao’an Middle School, also gives students such courses. Students like the self-protection lessons since there are no exams or boring classes. Student Ma Zichao said, “I learn how to save lives if someone is badly hurt. Most importantly, I know how to prevent dangers before they really happen.” Chen added, “Students also learn how to work together and know more from real life.”

Chen offers more advice on how to stay out of danger in his course. Here are some tips.

* If you are robbed, keep calm. If you can’t cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Remember the robber’s looks and tell the police.

* If you are in a traffic accident, take down the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before letting the rider go. Maybe you don’t realize how seriously you are hurt.

【推荐1】阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后的表格中填入恰当的单词,每空一词。

When students get bored with the boring hours of theory (理论) classes, the practical classes bring relaxation to them. The laboratory is the place where students actually get hands-on experience about the lessons they have learned. High school students are allowed to perform the basic experiments of different branches of science, mainly physics, chemistry and biology. However, lab safety is of great importance. Lab safety rules are mainly about personal safety and proper handling of instruments to avoid accidents inside the lab.

Middle school is the first chance for students to work in a science lab. Lab experiments should be carried out quite carefully. And the students are always told to follow the guidelines to make sure of lab safety. Therefore, first of all, you must be careful of your personal safety. So you should be dressed in a full-sleeved apron (围裙) while performing experiments. Gloves, safety glasses and caps are also important things required for personal safety. Since you are dealing with the instruments or the chemicals for the first time, you might be curious to try something new. But such activities often lead to lab dangers. So, avoid any form of carelessness. Besides, you have to carefully listen to your teachers in order to start the experiment in the correct process and get exact results.

There are different types of instruments inside a science lab. Physics labs are filled with different electrical instruments, which need safe operation. So you need to perform the experiments under the supervision (监督) of your teacher, until you are good at them. Similarly, handle the chemicals according to the guidance of the lab assistant. Do not try to mix the chemicals as you please. It might lead to dangerous explosions (爆炸). Also, you should always keep a biology lab clean to avoid pollution.

You are new to the lab and therefore, it is your duty to learn about the lab completely. This includes a complete knowledge of placement of the lab equipment. You should learn about the correct operation technique of expensive instruments. Turn off the gas as soon as you have finished your experiments. You also should learn about where the fire extinguisher (灭火器) is and the working of fire safety instruments.

All students should follow the rules for your safety and perform the experiments carefully.

全国百万中小学生“线上开学”

Feb 17 should have been the start of the spring semester for many middle and primary schools in China. However, to control the novel coronavirus outbreak, many schools have delayed(延迟) the start of the semester, following instructions from the Ministry of Education (MOE). But students in China are still studying.

Instead of having classes at school, many students in Beijing and Guangzhou began their first day of online classes on Feb 17. Students in Shanghai will start online classes on March 2, 2020.

“In the morning, I have English class, followed by Chinese and math,” Liu Bo, a Junior 3 student from Beijing, told Xinhua. “I have also learned about epidemic prevention(预防传染病).”

According to the MOE, students are mainly taking classes to review previous knowledge rather than taking new classes during the online study period. Online courses are required to include content(内容) about epidemic prevention, psychological(心理的) health and educational activities.

“Online courses are only temporary measures(暂时的措施) taken during the epidemic, so when the new semester begins, schools should not replace(替代) classroom teaching with online class.” Lu Yugang from the ministry told China Daily.

The ministry also called on schools not to increase their students’ schoolwork burden(负担). Schools should not ask students to study online for long periods of time or study things beyond(超出) their curriculum(课程). Students must have enough time to rest, the ministry added. Also, it stressed(强调) that protecting students’ eyesight must be a priority(优先).
