They moved here with their parents two years ago. Their father, Peter, works for a very
big company. The company has offices in many countries, and it has sent Peter to work in Germany, France and China before. Peter usually stays in a country for about two years. Then the company moves him again. His family always goes with him.
The Robinsons love seeing the world. They have been to many interesting places. For example, in Egypt, they have seen the Pyramids, travelled on a boat on the Nile River, and visited the palaces and towers of ancient kings and queens.
Mike and Clare have also begun to learn the language of the country, Arabic. This language is different from English in many ways, and they find it hard to spell and pronounce the words. However, they still enjoy learning it. So far they have learnt to speak German, French, Chinese and Arabic. Sometimes they mix the languages. “It’s really fun,’’ said Clare. Hi and welcome to To The Max. I'm Max Gregg and I'm thirteen. My family and I are from Boston in the United States, but at the moment our hometown is Rye in England.
I'm a dance fanatical. I've got my own dance studio in our garage at home. I've also got a video blog about dance. It's got some great tips about how to do different kinds of modern dance. My video clip hasn't got any fans at the moment. It's a shame!
I've got a big sister, Lily. She's nineteen and she's at university. Has she got any hobbies? Well, her hobby is learning languages. She can speak four languages: English, German Polish and Russian. She's really smart!
Rye has got a castle and lots of old houses, but it hasn't got much for teenagers. Our house is twenty minutes from the sea, but I can't swim! I haven't got big family. Just me, Lily and Dad. We haven't got any pets. Dad's got a job at a university near here. He's OK, but he's got a really uncool car and he can't drive very well, especially in London. Oh, and he can't cook.

I remember she did so one night. She had been at work all day but wanted to do something special for us.
On that evening, my mom put a plate of eggs, sausages and very burnt (烤焦的) toast in front of my dad. I waited to see if anyone noticed. But my dad just took his toast, smiled at my mom and asked me how my day at school had been. I don’t remember what I told him that night. But I do remember watching him put butter and jelly on that toast. He ate it up as usual, every single bite.
After dinner, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burnt toast. ”
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night. I asked him if he really liked his toast burnt. He hugged me in his arms and said: “Your mommy worked very hard today. She’s really tired. And besides, a bit of burnt toast never hurts anyone!”
Life is full of imperfect things. Nobody is perfect either. I’m not the best at anything. I forget birthdays and other important events just like everyone else does. When do you put your index finger against your lips and say “Shush!”? Usually, you do this when you want to tell people to be quiet.
A new sculpture (雕像) by the Hudson River is trying to deliver exactly this message: With her index finger pressed to her lips, the giant woman’s head seems to be calling on people in Manhattan—one of the world’s busiest ( and noisiest ) areas to rethink the pace(节奏) of their lives. “Stop and listen,” said its creator, the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. “Listen to the water talking to us. When it moves, the water makes a special sound, very special. Few people ever pay attention to it.”
Plensa started working on the sculpture two years ago. He calls it the most beautiful piece he has ever completed. The sculpture is so large (it’s 24 metres tall) that people all across Manhattan can see it. Some people have watched it being put together since August. They wonder why the woman seems to be shushing. “I’d say it’s telling New York City to keep this area a secret,” said a local citizen. “We don’t want to drive more people to work here.”
Plensa says that by creating the sculpture, he is not just sending a message to Manhattan. “I’m targeting the ‘noise’ from the outside world, the said, “Close your eyes and look inside yourself. Try to listen to your own thoughts and your own dreams in this noisy time. Everyone has an amazing amount of beauty hidden inside of them.”

When we first visited my friend and Missy, my friend had to gently pull her over on a lead (牵绳) to get her to come to us. She wanted to come but afraid to do so—the poor, beautiful thing. Clearly Missy came to the right home. My friend has given birth to a baby of his own and shows the love of a mother. This is just what Missy needs. Thanks to the love of my friend, she has changed into a new dog step by step. Sadly, she is still afraid of strange humans. I hate to imagine what the dog must have gone through.
Now, Missy trusts me completely, so I can touch her berry(肚皮).While standing, she will jump up so gently to be closer to me, putting her paws(爪子)on my legs as she looks at me with those beautiful eyes.
Missy is really brave. She has the courage to try again, to open her hearts, and to know that not everyone is the same kind of people as before. Keep it in mind that tomorrow is another day.

Do you like to study in the living room? This is not a good place because it is usually too noisy. The telephone bell rings there; the TV is there, and sometimes it is a good place for your pet dog or cats to play and rest. You need to study in a quiet place, like your bedroom. A quiet place will help you only think about one thing, and you will learn better.
Before you begin to study, do not forget to clean your desk. A good desk light is important, too. You’ll feel tired easily if there is not enough light (光线). So you should have a clean and bright lamp. To tell you the truth, the most important is that you should put your heart into your study.

Most waves are caused by winds blowing over the surface of the water. The sun heats the earth, causing the air to rise and the winds to blow. The winds blow across the sea, pushing little waves into bigger and bigger ones.
The size of a wave is decided by how strong the wind is, how long it blows, and how large the body of water is. In a small bay, big waves will never build up. But at sea the wind can build up big, powerful waves.
It is believed that the height of a wave (in meters) will usually be no more than one tenth of the wind's speed (in kilometers). In other words, when the wind is blowing at 120 kilometers an hour, most waves will be 12 meters high or less. Of course, some waves may come together to form big waves that are much higher.
