The neighbor saw what happened and thought, “What a bad man! He’s trying to mess up the front of my house!” Instead of going out to talk with Jim, the neighbor planned to punish him.
That night, the neighbor went out to drop some waste paper on the doorway of Jim’s house. Jim also happened to be looking out of the window then. After his neighbor left, Jim went out to check the waste. He found the important piece of paper he had lost. He was angry and thought that his neighbor had not only picked his pocket, but had messed up his doorway with rubbish. That night he caught ten homeless dogs and cats and then sent them to his neighbor’s house. Of course, his neighbor had quite a bit of trouble with so many noisy animals.
In the following days, they continued doing bad things to each other. The dropping of that single piece of paper ended up causing a serious fight.
At last, they both ended up in the hospital. They had to spend quite some time sharing a room there. At first they refused to speak to each other, but one day, tired of the silence, they began to talk. They discussed the piece of paper and realized that it all had been a misunderstanding. If they had talked to each other earlier, none of this would have happened. After leaving the hospital, they became close neighbors.

Then when my crop bore its fruit, the birds discovered it. The birds were not afraid of my dog at all. I shot them but as soon as I walked away. they returned. At last, I killed some birds and hung them among the crop, hoping they would serve as the scarecrows, which turned out to be successful. By harvest time. I had nearly two bushels of rice and two and a half bushels of wheat.
With my new grain to store, I found a new problem. The fine grain ran through my baskets. It took me nearly two months to form and dry two ugly pots- one for rice and one for wheat.
Next I formed a clay oven and made some other tools from hard wood and cloth to bake bread. I made and baked bread in my oven. I spent the third year on the island in farming and baking.
Soon after that. I began to think of my days sailing in a tidy boat with Xury. I wished to have a boat and explore the island by sea.
I tried to turn over the ship's boat that I had seen washed up, but failed. I was still determined to have a boat. So I chose a strong tree and spent weeks cutting it down. Then it took me months to turn it from tree to boat.
When it was time to launch, I realized I had made my boat too far from the nearest stream. The boat was far too heavy for me to move. I tried bringing the water to the boat instead of the boat to the water. I soon saw it would take me twenty years of constant labor.
I celebrated my fourth year on the island with two boats, but I was no closer to a sea journey.

My mother was with my father, and I was laying the table (摆放餐桌) for the captain. A tall, pale man with only three fingers on his left hand came in.
“Come here, boy,” he said. “Is this table here for my friend Bill?”
“Bill?” I asked, “This table is for the captain.”
“Has he got a scar (疤) on his right cheek (面颊)?” he asked.
“Yes,” I answered. “He went for a walk.”
When the stranger (陌生人) saw the captain returning, he hid behind the door. I knew that something was wrong and I was worried, because both men had swords (剑).
The captain was walking to his breakfast table, when the stranger said loudly, “Bill!”
The captain turned round and the colour left his face.
“Black Dog!” he gasped (倒吸一口气).
“Black Dog it is,” said the stranger, “come to see his old shipmate Bill.”
“Here I am,” said the captain. “What do you want?”
“Let’s get some rum (朗姆酒),” said Black Dog, and talked like old shipmates.
I gave them some rum and went back to work. The men’s voices soon grew louder and I heard the captain shouting.
“No, no, no!”
Both men jumped up, and they fought with each other. Black Dog ran out of the in with blood running down his shoulder. The captain stood and watched as he disappeared (消失) over the hill. Then he came back into the inn.
“Jim,” he said. “Rum!”
“Are you hurt?” I cried.
“Rum,” he repeated. “I must get away from here. Rum! Rum!”
When I came back with the rum I found the captain lying on the floor. His eyes were closed and his face was pale. But he was still alive. My mother heard the noise and came downstairs. We lifted the captain’s head. Just at that moment Dr Livesey arrived to see my father. He looked at the captain and said to my mother, “His heart can’t take much more of this. I told him drinking rum would kill him. And it nearly has.”
The captain opened his eyes and tried to sit up. “Where’s Black Dog?” he said.
“There’s no Black Dog here,” said the doctor. “Get on your feet and I’ll help you to your bed.”

The correct name for shooting star is meteor(流星). Space has lots of little objects. These can be rocks in space from old planets. These objects can be very small, they are called meteorites(陨石). He thanked me for a daughter's cooking and for having traveled so far to spend the holiday with him. I told him that I worried about he would feel lonely again in the empty house.
"I have my plans," he said, in the moments before I walked out the door.
When I arrived 10 days ago, I felt it was quiet and lifeless in the house. Then my brothers and I came and filled the rooms. But, now, they're gone, I am the last to leave.
As the taxi began to move, I watched the lights go off, but my father didn't leave. Even though he couldn't see me in the dark, he stood by the window watching, beside the tree. It was a fresh tree. He buys one every year for the new year.
The life is hard for my father: my mother died years ago, and now his children are far from home, our selfish choices taking us from one end of the country to the other. I watched him as he stands still like the tree. Are there tears in his eyes, as there are in mine?
I can’t wave from the taxi, as I leave a parent to loneliness in the early morning darkness. I leave behind two trees: one with silver-grey hair, the other still freshly green. Both of them are tall and straight.
