China’s first artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能) textbook for high school students has recently come out in Shanghai to start AI lessons. Forty high schools around the country have become experimental bases (实验基地) for having AI education.

The book is mainly about the history of AI and how AI can be used in areas such as facial recognition (人脸识别), public security (公共安全) and auto driving.

Peng Yu is a teacher at the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He took part in making the textbook and said it would give guide to students. He said, “The book has a good introduction to the area so that students can decide if they want to further study AI at college. Students can also find out what they need to learn if they are interested in studying AI. For example, they have to learn math really hard because it is the start of AI.”

Peng said AI has improved the interest of many high school students already, but he still feels that they can learn much more by taking part in project-based learning programs. Peng is sure that everyone should learn something about AI because it will be part of our everyday lives. Although AI in China develops really fast, it is reported that China needs at least 5 million AI teachers to keep up with development in the future.

As the name suggests, SoaPen is a pen made out of soap. The children draw on their hands with the soap pen and then wash the drawing off. If they don’t spend enough time washing it off, the colors will remain on the children’s hands. Issar said it makes sure that children take enough time to wash their hands. This may be especially helpful in a classroom. Often a teacher does not have the time to make each child wash his hands properly.

Kids actually wash their hands for the proper amount of time because they’re drawing on their hands. To obliterate the drawing, they wash their hands carefully instead of just going under water with a one—second wash and off. Issar and Anand stated that SoaPen to be created everywhere will help develop good habits through hand—washing in the city across the globe.
